Philip Perkis's photography lecture notes were published by Obpress in the United States in 2001 and translated and published in Korea in 2005.
The author, who has taught photography for 40 years at Pratt Institute, Cooper Union, School of Visual Arts, and New York University, says the purpose of photography education is to cultivate an eye for seeing the world in all its glory and to train ourselves to accept our lives physically and mentally through photography.
As the subtitle, “Thoughts on Photography and Life,” suggests, the discourses on photography discussed in this book are not limited to just photography; they contain truths that encompass our lives.

The revised edition published in 2019 added “New Manuscript Criticism, Some Thoughts.”
Philip Perkis has developed a number of lectures on the critical discussion of photography, including what to consider when looking at a photograph.
This article presents elements of criticism that we can actively use when looking at our own photographs, in photography classes, or when discussing photographs in small groups.

The cover of the revised edition follows the cover of the original book, with the concept of a notebook for exam answers at American universities.
The original text had 'Teaching Photography' written in the blank space.
This means that the answer to the test question titled 'Photography Lecture' is from this book.
The Korean version leaves some blank spaces in order to encourage us to write our own answers using Philip Perkis' answer sheet on 'Teaching Photography' as a guide.
