Description
Book Introduction
This book is a compilation of lectures given by the great artist and thinker Kandinsky at the Bauhaus from 1922. While the previously published 『On the Spiritual in Art』 was written in relation to theoretical thinking, this book broadly interprets the problems of general plastic arts, focusing on the analysis and composition of formal elements, as befitting its subtitle, ‘For the Analysis of Pictorial Elements.’
Above all, his thoughts expressed here allow us to break away from the fixed ideas of points, lines, and planes before abstraction and enter into abstract thought and world.
Presented with a new cover to commemorate the centennial of the Bauhaus in 2019, this book offers a special delight to those exploring the world of painting.

Publisher's Review
“During the three months I spent at Goldach on Lake Constance at the beginning of the World War, I spent most of my time systematizing my then still undecided theoretical ideas and practical experiences.
In this way, a very comprehensive theoretical material was completed.
(…) Since art studies is only just beginning, we have consciously narrowed down the subject of our research, but this is a thorough discussion that goes beyond the limits of painting and ultimately even the limits of art in general.
But here I have only tried to give some guidelines, namely, an analytical method that takes into account the overall value.” —Kandinsky
