Bible Reading Program

The second series of “Christ-Centered Bible Reading,” a compilation of the Bible reading program of Bundang Woori Church.
Volume 1 covered the Pentateuch and historical books of the Old Testament, while Volume 2 covers the poetry books and the major and minor prophets.
Among the numerous Bible reading methods being introduced these days, why should we choose a Christ-centered approach? This approach is because it reflects the Bible's intended purpose.
The Bible testifies of Jesus Christ.
Moreover, no one can know God the Father and His will without Jesus, and no one can know what the Holy Spirit says about Christ.
This book, with clear commentary from four pastors, will encourage church members to read the Bible and serve as a guide for understanding it with a Christ-centered perspective.

Into the book
Although it seemed that evil had triumphed, the evil of all the wicked became instruments of God's sovereignty.
Perhaps we are still in the midst of hardship today.
However, as the Book of Job teaches us, we must look beyond our suffering and trust in God's sovereignty.
The Book of Job speaks to us today as well.
“We cannot fully understand the reasons for the suffering that now lies before us.
But all our suffering is in God’s hands.”
--- 「36.
From “Suffering, God’s Love and Sovereignty”

God's silence opened the door to the tomb of despair and gave us the gift of a new world called resurrection.
Are you perhaps struggling with God's silence? Please don't forget that even Jesus, God's Son, experienced God's silence.
Just as God's silence opened the door to a new world leading to Jesus' resurrection and victory, God the Father will lead us to victory as well.
--- 「40.
From “God’s Time, Silence, and Grace”

[Psalms] The main theme of David's poetry in Book 5 is 'human weakness' and 'humility' that requires relying on God.
David confesses that he is a king, but he is weak.
This speaks of a hope for a true Messiah to rule over Israel, not a weak human king, when the Davidic dynasty is restored.
And in Psalm 144, he confesses God as his love, fortress, and stronghold, but we see a shift from a confession for the individual to a confession for the community.
--- 「44.
From “Prayer that Answers God”

Psalm 41, the last of Book 1, says, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting!
“Amen, Amen” (v. 13), and the last of Book 2, Psalm 72, ends with “Let his glorious name be praised forever.
May the whole earth be filled with his glory.
“Amen, Amen” (verse 19), and the last Psalm in Book 3, Psalm 89, ends with “Praise the Lord forever and ever.
“Amen, Amen” (v. 52), Psalm 106, the last of Book 4, says, “Praise be to the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting.
All people, say, 'Amen.'
It concludes with “Hallelujah” (verse 48).
This shows that the entire Psalm is woven together as one confession.
Of course, not all of the 150 Psalms are filled with praise.
Sometimes there is sadness, anger, conflict, difficulty, joy, etc.
The Psalms tell us that all of our lives will ultimately come together to praise God.
--- 「44.
From “Prayer that Answers God”

When we look at Jesus, we see how great and wonderful God is.
He commands the storms, casts out demons, heals the sick, and raises the dead.
I am amazed at how great and amazing His love is.
The more we get to know Him, the more we realize that God is someone we cannot do anything to, but who we want to be close to.
Get to know that Christ.
Then you will fear God more.
And as a result, you become wise.
--- 「45.
From “Fear the Lord”

God has had the worst marriage in history for the longest period of time.
But God did not give up on us.
He sent Jesus, the one Jeremiah pointed to, a better prophet than Jeremiah.
Although Jeremiah was under threat of death, he ultimately experienced death for us on the cross.
In order to forgive us for our adultery, the pure Jesus took the punishment that adulterers and betrayers deserve.
And He made it possible for us, who are undeserving, to receive the love He deserves.
If we look to this Jesus, rejoice in Him, and follow Him, won't we be able to abandon idols like money, comfort, and the approval of others, and rejoice in and worship only the true God?
--- 「53.
From "The Worst Marriage"

The Psalms are called the 'school of prayer.'
And if you look at the history of the church, people of prayer usually loved the Psalms and prayed with them.
The Psalms are also called 'Jesus' Prayers'.
When Jesus came to this earth as a human, he prayed to God while meditating on the Psalms.
In this way, the Psalms serve as good teachers who teach us how to pray.
--- 「Special Lecture 2.
From “How to Pray with the Psalms”

So far, we have briefly looked at each book of the major prophets.
God who judges (Daniel), God who casts down (Jeremiah), but ultimately God who saves (Isaiah), God who strengthens (Ezekiel), the meaning contained in each name of the prophets is conveyed through the words of the major prophets.
Let us not be discouraged by the ongoing story of judgment, but rather, feel God's heart and the earnest love contained within it, and become true saints who await Jesus Christ, our only hope and Messiah, whose truth becomes clearer through the prophetic books, the last books of the Old Testament.

Publisher's Review
“Reading the Bible with Christ at the Center” is a teaching material that helps you understand the flow of the Bible and discover Jesus Christ contained in the text through the guidance of four pastors (Sangseop Koh, Dongyeol Lee, Jeonggyu Lee, and Chunseong Lee).
The theme and goal of this book are clearly revealed in its title.
Reading the entire Bible with Christ at the center!

- Why Christ-centered Bible reading?
Because it is a way to read the Bible according to its intended purpose.
The Bible contains the story of redemption, and at its center is Jesus Christ.
The Old Testament prophesies Christ, and the New Testament reveals Jesus in action.
Moreover, no one can know God the Father and His will without Jesus Christ, and no one can know Christ without the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, if you do not discover Christ while reading the Bible, you cannot say that you have read the Bible.

- How can we read the Bible in a Christ-centered way?
It's not difficult.
Because the Bible itself was written with Christ at the center.
The Old Testament points to the Messiah, and the New Testament is, of course, full of content introducing Christ.
Therefore, reading the Bible is like meeting Christ.
However, as you read the vast volume of the Bible, you may lose your direction or lack motivation, so you need appropriate help.
If you read the Bible text every day and refer to the commentary in this book, you can grasp the overall flow of each book of the Bible and discover Jesus Christ within it.
As you progress through this book, it can be very helpful to read and share it with family or church members.
The depth and breadth of your knowledge of Christ will double compared to when you read it alone.
You can't read the Bible alone and understand all its rich content.
That's why we need help.
In that respect, this book serves as a very appropriate commentary for grasping the context of the Bible with Christ as the goal and theme.

- What benefits does this book provide?
First, the Bible can be easily understood with Christ at the center.
There are many books on the market that are similar or better organized.
However, most of them are translations of foreign authors or books that require a certain level of training for believers to understand the content.
Therefore, training of pastors, community leaders, and learners in charge of church education is essential.
However, this book was not only organized to suit the sentiments of the Korean church, but also so that believers can easily read and understand it on their own.
Second, it is intuitive and easy to use.
We've improved the readability of the text so that it can be read comfortably regardless of age, and included QR codes so that you can read the book or watch video lectures as needed.
Rather than a textbook format with questions and answers, it adopts a lecture format that you read and apply, making it easy to apply and utilize on your own, either individually or in small groups.
Third, this book is the foundation for various programs to understand the Bible.
Not only pastors, aspiring pastors, and church (group) leaders, but also believers want to know the Bible properly.
And there are many good books that can help you solve this.
However, it is difficult to find a book that is easily accessible and digestible to everyone.
This book will serve as a basic guide, bridging the gap between books and programs that provide in-depth study of the Bible.
In short, the barrier to entry is low!
