Into the book
“The best parents are not those who create a good environment, but those who ‘repent.’
Parents who see their sins and repent can bless their children.”
--- p.29~30

“Why do I always tell you to look at your sins? Because looking at your own sins is the secret to truly loving and being loved.
“When couples acknowledge and confess their sins to each other, intimacy and love blossom.”
--- p.42

“It’s not that the other person is deceiving me so I can’t tell the difference.
“Because I have a craving for delicacies inside me, and I have a desire to eat delicacies even if I die soon.”
--- p.73

“If we want to be blessed, we must become children of God.
Above all, the way to bless our children is for parents to show them repentance through faith.”
--- p.107

“Every event in our life is a gift from God.
It is a gift given to us to grow into the mature character of God and to give birth to spiritual heirs.
When we walk in the knowledge that everything we do is a gift from the Lord, we will enjoy all the blessings He has given us.”
--- p.134

“God, who never leaves me, comes to me when I am lonely.
Even if I am driven out, there is a place the Lord has prepared for me.
Even if we are alone in the wilderness with no one to look after us, our Lord will intercede for us.”
--- p.167

“The word “here” is especially important.
This is a wilderness, a valley of the shadow of death, not my Father's house (Psalm 23:4).
This is the scene where a sinner commits a sin and runs away.
“God is right there, right where you are, blaming yourself for committing the sin of adultery and greed and wondering, ‘Can someone like me be forgiven?’”
--- p.174

“Those who have met God have a joyful life.
Your perspective on everything in life, including school, work, love, marriage, and relationships, will change.
Furthermore, those who have met God communicate well.”
--- p.223

“But still, God loved Jacob to the end.
Since Jacob's specialty was deception, God trained him by deceiving him in the same way as Laban. ... ... Although I am lacking, God leads my life 'because He loves' me.”
--- p.246

“We must praise the just God.
We must praise God, who will remember the service I have done by wiping His feet with my hair and will repay us in full.”
--- p.273

“God has given me a great gift!” is Leah’s final confession.
Today, right now, can you make this confession? It's Leah's confession, not Rachel's.
Even if my husband doesn't love me, even if there's nothing visible in my life, I pray that you and I will be able to confess, "God has given me a generous gift!"
--- p.329

Publisher's Review
Genesis 26 begins with the story of Isaac's two sons, Esau and Jacob.
Jacob deceives his brother and father and receives the firstborn's blessing, then runs away to his uncle's house.
And in that empty field where they are running away, they meet God.
The Lord meets Jacob, who has no reason to return and no strength to die.
However, Jacob was tricked by his more resourceful uncle Laban and ended up taking Leah as his wife instead of Rachel, whom he had wanted.
He had served Laban for seven years, and now he worked for another seven years to get his beloved Rachel.
So, no matter how good of a wife she was, Leah was a worthless wife to Jacob.
But it's really surprising.
Leah, a wife who has never been loved in her life, confesses this about her life:
"God has given me a great gift!" How could she possibly confess such a thing? Leah sought God because she was unloved.
Each time, Leah deeply encountered God, who cared for her, listened to her, and united her with Him.
And finally, God led her to the point where she realized that her lonely life was a 'generous gift' from the Lord.
In this way, a person who has met God lives happily even in a painful life.
Jacob also lived a rough life, but through that rough training, the Lord transformed him from a deceiver to Israel, the father of faith.
This is the redemption story of Leah and Jacob.

Pastor Kim Yang-jae, the author, says that because there is a God who thinks of us to the end, “all life is a generous gift.”
Even if you are as mean as Jacob and as unloved as Leah, those who joyfully accept even their shortcomings through the grace of the Lord and realize God's true love can truly love.
Although they lived difficult lives where they had no choice but to call on God, didn't Jacob and Leah become blessed as ancestors of Jesus Christ because the Lord loved them to the end?

I hope that the same grace will be bestowed upon all readers of 『A Generous Gift』.
I hope that you will find new strength by relying on Jehovah even in the painful places of life.
So, I hope to become the protagonist of a 'generous gift', boasting that the life given to me is the best wage.
