What is salvation?
What is salvation?
Description
Book Introduction
What is salvation for a life 'sick' of death?
How does God's salvation set humans free?

The best book on salvation, raved about by over 200,000 readers!

A book containing the correct soteriology that world-renowned theologian Dr. Kim Se-yoon has newly acquired over the past 20 years.
Correct uncertain or distorted soteriology and help people understand the Bible's soteriology correctly.

A response to the question of salvation written by theologian Professor Kim Se-yoon.
The content published in 2001 has been completely revised and new information on the current process of salvation has been added.
All human beings must be saved from death and its symptoms, suffering.
But humans cannot save themselves with the resources inherent within them.
Only God, the transcendent Creator, can save humanity and the entire world.
God did not abandon His creatures to death, but loved them and carried out the work of salvation.

This book clearly explains why salvation is necessary, how God's historical salvation event occurred in Christ Jesus, how we can receive that salvation through faith, how the salvation we receive has an eschatological structure, how the ethics of discipleship are derived from it, and so on. It explains what our lives should be like today, and what the completion of salvation we desire is.

The author adds a new explanation of what it means to be "saved" in the present, as believers who have been declared righteous at baptism move toward the completion of salvation that will be accomplished in the end times, and what role it plays in the realization of the kingdom of God on earth now.
By doing so, we have tried to help readers correctly understand the meaning of salvation and understand the gospel that proclaims salvation more deeply and comprehensively.

I hope that this book will contribute, even if only a little, to helping many thoughtful pastors and many laypeople in Korea understand the true gospel more deeply and broadly, so that they can enjoy blessed lives as saved people and fulfill their role as workers who realize “justice, peace, and joy (happiness)” (Romans 14:17), the present reality of salvation in the kingdom of God (reign) in a country where injustice, conflict, and a low happiness index exist.

Into the book
The Apostle Paul says, “For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).
Death is the price of sin, meaning that if we sin, death is surely given to us.
The word translated as “wages” here is originally a Greek word referring to the wages paid to mercenaries.
So, Paul's words convey the picture that 'if we are hired as mercenaries of Satan and fight for his kingdom [i.e., if we sin], the wages we receive is death.'
--- p.21

God, with 100 percent wisdom and 100 percent love for me, tells me to go east, saying that the way is the way of life.
On the other hand, when I calculate with my mere ten-point wisdom and my mere ten-point love for myself, I feel that going east is a losing path, and going west would be more beneficial. If I truly depend on God's perfect wisdom and love, which are ten times greater than my own, I will not choose the westward path suggested by my imperfect wisdom and love, but rather the eastward path suggested by God.
--- pp.23~24

But unfortunately, that path does not save humans from death.
However, it only slightly alleviates the symptoms of death.
But all human beings, trapped in their own poverty, try to assert themselves over one another as if that path were the path of 'life', to subjugate the other to themselves, and to exploit the other's resources.
So human society has become a jungle of fierce competition for survival, the law of the jungle, and survival of the fittest, a world of beasts.
All conflicts and resulting suffering between people come from here.
--- pp.30~31

The 'gospel' of Jesus Christ is the 'good news' that God came to us and brought salvation to those who are dying in these limited resources.
--- p.38

Jesus realized that he was the Son of God, called to fulfill that very promise, and by proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom of God, he gathered together God's people who would truly rely on and obey God, that is, God's children who would follow him, call God "Abba", and rely on and obey God completely.
--- p.62

How do we receive salvation? By faith.
Faith is the means by which God's historical saving work in Jesus Christ becomes effective for us today.
More precisely, it is the means by which we obtain salvation.
Since faith is the only means, it can also be said to be a condition of our salvation.
--- p.87

It should be understood as meaning being liberated from the kingdom of Satan and transferred to the kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who receives the name of God, “Lord,” and acts as God’s representative in His rule.
Paul clearly explains this truth in Colossians 1:13-14:
--- p.108

It means that we become His children, who call the Creator God “Father,” and who depend on and obey Him to obtain His infinite resources (wisdom, power, love, eternity, etc.).
In this way, we overcome our creaturely limitations/deficiencies that bring us all suffering, and participate in the Creator's transcendence/fullness, thereby obtaining His divine life.
This is the “eternal life” that the Bible teaches.
--- p.120

In order for the church today to properly implement this teaching, we must not go around doing shamanistic things like trampling the ground, but must make the dictators who, under the control of the spirit of Satan, falsely shout “freedom” and “justice” and deceive the people to seize power and then oppress the people and commit injustice; the prosecutors and judges who absolve their own side of sins and fabricate the non-existent sins of the opposing side or the weak; the journalists who mislead the people with articles that distort the truth and destroy justice and peace; and the unscrupulous businessmen who suck the blood of the people and harm their well-being with defective products believe in the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and repent of their sins of lying, injustice, and evil deeds while serving as servants of Satan; and make them obey the rule of the Lord Jesus Christ so that the justice, peace, and happiness of the kingdom of God can increase in our society.
This is the true spiritual war that the church today, that is, those who call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, must fight as the army of the kingdom of God. We must win this war and bring justice, peace, and happiness, which are the present realization of the salvation of the kingdom of God, to this earth.
