John Piper's Exposition on Galatians
Description
Book Introduction
The success or failure of a Christian's life depends on this.
“Having begun in the Spirit, are you going to be perfected by the flesh?”
There is no other gospel
There is only one gospel!
After reading Galatians, we cannot simply respond with a half-hearted, “Well, this is an interesting book of religious reflection.”
It's like not being able to examine a burning coal with your bare hands.
Galatians is a powerful message containing the most essential truths of Christianity.
If we can make the power of this truth a part of our thinking and will, the framework of our faith will become clearer, and the passion for living in Christ will never grow lukewarm or waver.
Are you standing firm in the truth of the gospel? This book is based on John Piper's sermons on Galatians given at Bethlehem Baptist Church, and is divided into 23 chapters.
Beginning in the Spirit and ending in the flesh? If you desire to await the hope of righteousness through the Spirit, not the flesh, and through hearing and faith, not through works, then listen to the core truths contained in this book.

Into the book
“I know I still have a long way to go before I can become the preacher I want to be.
But I have a goal.
Our Bethlehem Church preachers not only claim to believe in the authority of Scripture, but also submit our hearts and minds to its Word by reading it accurately and carefully, paying attention to the meaning of words in context, the intended relationships between successive sentences, and the coherent flow of thought throughout the entire passage.
This is not optional.
It's not just a game for a select few scholars.
This is a matter of submission and humility to God's Word.
This is the only way to fully understand and apply the confession that “Paul, an apostle—not of men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ” (Gal. 1:1).
This letter is the living word of Christ, written through an authorized representative of Christ.
If we believe it and acknowledge Jesus as Lord, we will not be satisfied with vague and hazy notions about the meaning of the text.
We will study, analyze, define, outline, write, research, ponder, meditate, contemplate, connect, and synthesize the Word until the Apostle's will comes to us clearly, sharply, distinctly, and inevitably.
Then, when we surrender and change our thinking to the apostle's, we will know the mind of Christ.”
---From Chapter 1
“Paul’s concern for the gospel is not as light as cotton candy.
He doesn't smile sweetly in the midst of controversy and say, "Do what you want."
For Paul, the gospel of Christ is the point of contact between God's wonderful life and this sinful and dirty world.
And when we reject or distort the eternal grace given to utterly worthless creatures like ourselves, someone, somewhere, deserves to be outraged at that heinous sin.
We must consider how terrible it is to reject the gospel.
Satan does his best to instill in us a worldly spirit of pettiness, triviality, and insignificance through television and radio.
We must guard ourselves from the flood of pleasures that deny eternal life.
We must cultivate a pure spiritual sensitivity and imagination, and be shocked like a child hearing thunder for the first time, feeling an earthquake for the first time, or encountering a storm on a ship for the first time.
When the Bible shows us God's eternal damnation, we can't just yawn and turn the page.
The revelation of God's wrath is intended to shake unbelievers out of their stupor and to prevent Christians from walking arrogantly and speaking with a voice full of pride.
Don't skim through the Bible.
There is much in this passage that humbles us, enlightens us, and sanctifies us.
“Please think about these words quietly and deeply.”
