Into the book
We call ourselves Christians.
Christ lives and works in me and through me, the people of God.
Therefore, blessed are the Christians who are invited to the Lord's Supper, which prepares them to go in peace and love and serve the Lord.
Let us rejoice deeply in the fact that after Mass, we can leave the church with renewed strength to share God's love and peace with our neighbors.
And let us give thanks to God.
It's like an athlete who has just finished months of rigorous training and is now standing at the starting line of the stadium waiting for the starting signal.
Everything was needed for that very moment.
---From "Going Out to the World to Spread the Gospel - Closing Ceremony I"

We are humbled by acknowledging our sins, encouraged by the Eucharist, and challenged to face every temptation.
It's different now than in the past when I easily succumbed to temptation.
Therefore, temptation cannot be defeated unless I give myself over to it.
Therefore, we can leave the church with hope and a renewed awareness of grace.
It is a change, having thrown off all the past images of being humbled by sin, paralyzed by sin, and gripped by a sense of helplessness.
So I leave the church realizing that sin no longer has a hold on me.
---From “We Are Renewed by God’s Mercy - Repentance”

After Mass, as I go out to love and serve the Lord, I leave with a generous heart, feeling the abundance of God's grace bestowed upon me.
I return to the world with a desire to share my time, talents, and wealth with my neighbors, and further, with God.
At this time, we receive an abundance of God's grace and blessings and come to a renewed sense of calling to share them with others.
How do we come to this realization? As we prepare to offer our gifts, we offer bread and wine, symbols of life, to God.
Through this offering, we express our faith in returning to God what belongs to Him.
---From "Giving Up Everything for Everyone - Preparing the Gift"

We remember the advice Jesus gave:
“Therefore if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother.
Then come back and offer your gift.” (Matthew 5:23-24)

Now is the time.
Let us leave aside arguments and fears and share in the intimate peace of Christ.
Only then can you participate in Holy Communion.
And we have a responsibility to leave the church after Mass with the peace we have found in the deepest presence of Christ.

This is a task we must not forget.
I've seen people get angry at other drivers as they back out of their parked cars before they even leave the church.
Also, after mass, I sometimes see people gossiping about someone while eating breakfast in the parish fellowship hall.
This is true for any of us.
This is a loss of resolve to be an instrument of peace.
---From "Peace Begins with Me - Peace Ceremony"

The Eucharist opens our eyes and shows us that the reality of salvation is everywhere around us.
As baptized disciples of Jesus, we must dedicate ourselves to making this fact known to others.
At this time, dedication means practice.
This means becoming a Catholic who acts every day.
For example, consider how you learn to ride a bicycle.
Even if you haven't practiced riding a bike, you start riding one day.
At first, you may start out riding a bike clumsily, but with consistent practice, you will get much better.
In this way, discipleship is not something you practice for a while before you start 'actually doing' it.
Being a 'practicing' Catholic means striving to live out the Gospel message every day.
It may be awkward at first, but you have to keep at it.
There is no measure of success that says when you have entered the path of true discipleship.
There is only fidelity.
---From "Sent to the World with God's Love - Final Ceremony II"

Mass is a special occasion where we are sent out after hearing Jesus' words, "Do this in remembrance of me," and receiving God's blessing, "Go in peace, love and serve the Lord," to practice our faith.
Priests and laity have much to do together.
Changing the world is not easy.
Fortunately, we are not alone.
“Thank you, God.”
---From "Mass in Everyday Life - We Are Not Alone"

Publisher's Review
Does Mass still feel unfamiliar and difficult?
The more you know, the more deeply you feel the grace of the Mass!

The core of the Catholic faith is the Mass.
Mass allows us to experience God most closely and vividly.
But many people confess that they still feel strange and alienated whenever they attend Mass.
As a result, rather than finding joy in Mass, we end up participating in it in a dry and habitual way.
So, what can we feel in the hour-long Mass, and how should we live as Christians through the Mass?

The Catholic Church is facing an unprecedented crisis due to COVID-19.
Mass attendance has also been cut in half, and religious life has also been greatly reduced.
To remind believers of the importance of Mass and help them find the joy of faith, the book “Mass. Day: The Daily Life of Those Who Attend Mass,” originally published in 2013, has been republished as “Invitation to Mass.”
This revised edition reflects the new 'Ordinary of the Mass' revised in 2018.
Additionally, the title has been redesigned to best explain the content and meaning of the book, and a refreshing design has been added for added visual enjoyment.

《Invitation to Mass》 goes beyond the framework of a commentary explaining the structure or liturgy of Mass and addresses how to put the teachings learned from Mass into practice in one's life.
By examining the Mass liturgy one by one, we learn that each ritual is connected to our daily lives, and that we can live as true Christians when the Mass and our lives become one.

“This is the Christian faith.”
Realizing God's love in Mass and being sent out into the world

This book begins its story with the closing ceremony of the Mass, not the opening ceremony.
This is because the very essence of Mass lies in sending out.
At the end of Mass, the priest says, “Mass is over, so let us go and preach the Gospel.”
This means that we must put into practice the grace we receive from Mass in our lives.
So, it reminds us, who used to celebrate Mass in a dry and dull manner, to prepare to carry out the mission we have been sent to peacefully love and serve God.
So this book begins with the ceremony and ends with the ceremony.
While examining the Mass liturgy in order, we do not stop there; we pay attention to how we can apply the teachings of the Mass in our lives.
And the authors structured it in a way that explains the liturgy of the Mass based on their personal anecdotes and insights from their daily lives.
A major strength is that the subject of 'Mass' is explained in an interesting way, as if reading an essay, rather than as a rigid catechism.

Additionally, at the end of each chapter, we have compiled content on how to put the teachings of the Mass into practice in life based on the core of the Mass liturgy.
It also includes Bible verses and prayers that encourage deeper meditation.
In this way, it goes beyond simply explaining the liturgy and components of the Mass, and helps those who are just beginning their baptism and religious life to reflect on the true meaning of the Mass and live as believers. It guides them to understand the true meaning and importance of the Mass.
It also allows believers who have already been baptized but still habitually attend Mass to live out their faith.

“Do this in remembrance of me.”
An hour of Mass can change our lives.

Can a short Mass lasting just over an hour change our lives? Many people answer "yes!" to this question, yet in reality, they often live in a way that doesn't.
But when we attend Mass, we are transformed to reveal God's presence to the world.
Each liturgy of the Mass invites me to open my heart to the God who has called me.
Therefore, we must not only take to heart the meaning of the Mass, but also put its teachings into practice.
I must also realize that I myself have been sent as an apostle to practice the gospel in the world.

In this way, this book helps us rediscover our identity as Christians and guides us to live as true Christians.
Perhaps you're simply reciting prayers out of habit every time you attend Mass? If so, why not try practicing the Mass, the source of the Catholic faith, in your own life and becoming a believer who follows the Lord's command to "Go and spread the Gospel!"
Then, I believe that the Mass, which once felt like a duty and a burden, will soon become a driving force that will renew my life and faith, and give me the strength to share the Lord's love with others.

Mass is a special occasion where we are sent out after hearing Jesus' words, "Do this in remembrance of me," and receiving God's blessing, "Go in peace, love and serve the Lord," to practice our faith.
