In particular, this book, along with Russell Kirk's The Mind of Conservatism, is considered one of the two major books that led the way in American conservatism and the Republican Party.
In particular, Russell Kirk's criticism that "if a million Americans read his (Goldwater's) book carefully, this whole country and the world would be a better place" is famous.
The book sold over 3.5 million copies and had a decisive influence on American politics.
Even today, it is republished in various editions almost every year.
