Publisher's Review
It's the era of retro fever, the revival of LPs!
A few years ago, the success of the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" and the retro craze combined to make LPs no longer exclusive to the middle-aged and older generation, but a hip item that appeals to the younger generation as well.
And the 'Seoul Record Fair', which was held for the 9th time as of 2019 (2020 was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic), is considered a successful example of popularizing LPs, similar to 'Record Store Day' overseas.
LPs are no longer the exclusive relic of memories, but rather exist as a current music medium.
This book will be a truly unique gift for everyone, from young people looking to enter the world of LPs, to middle-aged and older people who want to reminisce about the gem-like albums that shook our souls in the past and the brilliant memories they had, to even enthusiasts who have already fallen into the collector's trap.
Part 1 focuses on the four legendary super bands: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Deep Purple, and also covers George Harrison, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, David Gilmour, and Roger Waters, who left these bands to pursue solo careers.
Part 2 introduces 130 immortal masterpieces that shine in the history of licensed LPs.
We introduce major musicians and albums by genre, including Queen (Freddie Mercury), who became the main characters of the retro craze, and the Rolling Stones, the kings of rock and roll, as well as hard rock, metal, blues, progressive, alternative, glam rock, and modern rock.
Part 3 introduces 'hidden masterpieces' that are somewhat outside the mainstream of popular music history, but are no less musical and valuable.
In addition to rock, it also encompasses pop and folk, and names familiar to Koreans such as Bob Dylan, Bee Gees, Simon & Garfunkel, Elvis Presley, and Leonard Cohen are welcome.
Part 4 is the brilliant conclusion to this book.
The Korean pop culture and arts world of the 1970s and 1980s also could not escape the harsh sword of the authorities' 'censorship,' resulting in the creation of numerous deformed albums.
If there was even the slightest political, ideological, or sexual expression, the songs were deleted or their cover designs were distorted (the deletion of banned songs was also common in the albums introduced in parts 1-3).
So, the album was released with the representative song removed, or the cover design was different from the original.
This is a sad and humorous sight that can only be seen in South Korea (ironically, these deformed records are said to be popular among collectors overseas).
In addition, there are albums that were released only in South Korea (or in very few countries) for various reasons.
Part 4 introduces the behind-the-scenes stories of licensed LPs that can only be found in Korea.
107 artists, 305 albums, and over 2,000 vivid photos
For each album title, the front and back covers of the jacket, included tracks, label, insert (commentary sheet and enclosed postcards, posters, etc.), inner sleeve (inner cover), musicians and album commentary are introduced, and the discography of major musicians and the chronology of Korean licensed LPs are also included.
Especially for LP collectors, the comparison of each version, including the early/second/third editions, is a valuable and unique piece of information that is being released for the first time in Korea.
