Into the book
“How sweet are your words to my tongue, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103)
I believe that whether it's studying or a hobby, if it's fun, you can do it for a long time.
The Bible we read is based on the history and culture of Israel during the Old Testament era.
So, even if it was something that the people of the Old Testament era and the region could easily understand, it is very likely that we cannot.
······ So, in order to understand the Bible correctly, you must be well aware of the surrounding background, such as the culture, customs, and geography of the time when the Bible was written.
If even just one person reads this book and finds the Bible a little more beneficial and enjoyable, I could not ask for more.
--- From the 'Preface'
God had mercy on the Israelites and allowed anyone who looked at the bronze snake to live.
In this way, the bronze snake is what God presented as a means of salvation through Moses.
The Israelites, who had to constantly move from place to place every day, would have been tempted by foreign gods.
What the Israelites experienced through the incident of the bronze serpent was that salvation and abundance are not obtained through human power, but through faithfulness and trust in God.
The bronze serpent itself is a symbol of God's forgiveness and mercy that transcends the betrayal of the people, and of God's gift of life.
--- From 'Why did Moses put a bronze snake on a pole?'
Jesus taught us not to retaliate when we are wronged or abused.
Instead of 'an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth,' Jesus presented the principle of 'love your enemies' (see Matthew 5:38-48). The characteristic of Jesus' teaching on love of neighbor was that it went beyond the limitations of the common Jewish concept of neighbor at the time.
Jesus went further and said that we should love our enemies, not hate them, and pray for those who persecute us.
“But I tell you,
Love your enemies.
And pray for those who persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44)
--- From 'What does it mean in the Bible to love your enemies?'
Each family member had a tear bottle, and when they were sad, they would hold the bottle under their eyes and catch the tears that flowed into the bottle.
Then, I sealed the bottle and stored it in a visible place in the house.
When a disaster occurred among family members or relatives, they would take the tear bottle and gather at the place where the disaster occurred.
So people treasured the tear bottle very much and considered it sacred.
Also, when a person died, his bottle of tears was buried with him.
