Great Legacy
Great Legacy
Description
Book Introduction
"Great Legacy," a novel that serves as a mirror for human values
A masterpiece by Charles Dickens, one of the greatest writers produced in England alongside Shakespeare.
This is an autobiographical novel that fully reflects the author's own life, which was a result of his difficult childhood. It is a masterpiece that literary addresses the question, "How can the true value of humanity be restored?"

Through the story of Pip, a blacksmith boy who dreams of becoming a gentleman, Dickens tells us that the essence of a true gentleman is not cultivated through material wealth or artificial education, but rather comes from a warm love for humanity.
In addition to Pip's story of growth, the work is full of charming elements, such as Havisham's secret of hiding in an old wedding dress and Pip's heartbreaking unrequited love for Estella.

The fourth title in the Youth Bridge Classic series, “Great Expectations,” was translated by Professor Wang Eun-cheol, who is well-known for his translations of the works of Nobel Prize-winning author John Coetzee.
Additionally, the work includes a commentary comparing British gentlemen and Korean aristocrats, and interesting stories such as the story of how Charles Dickens' hair came to be auctioned, along with vivid photos.

Publisher's Review
There are world-class masterpieces that teenagers read separately!

Classical literature is considered a must-read for young people because it contains the meaning of life and noble spirit that transcends time and place.
However, it is not easy for teenagers to get their hands on classic literature.
This is because the massive volume and difficult expressions feel like a burden from the moment you pick up the book.

'Youth Stepping Stone Classic' started from such concerns.
Rather than blindly recommending complete translations to young people whose reading skills are not yet fully developed, how about introducing a series of world-famous works that can serve as a stepping stone to complete translations?
What good is it when you have a delicious-looking rice cake right in front of you?
If it is too large or hard, it is difficult to digest.
The 'Youth Tightrope Classic' is like a delicious rice cake divided into bite-sized pieces suitable for the age and mouth size of the person eating it.
Therefore, I do not claim that it is superior to the complete translation.
If young people read this series and then want to read the complete version, I believe that will have served its purpose.
Because it is a true 'stepping stone' classic.

This is what makes the youth bridge classic different!

A book made exclusively for teenagers!
'Youth Bridge Classics' is a series of world-famous works published specifically targeting teenagers.
Although numerous world-famous series have been published over the years, most of them were targeted at children or adults.
Teenagers often just grasp the plot or put the book down because it is too difficult.
Accordingly, the Blue Forest Youth Team felt the need for a series of world-famous works exclusively for youth.
Getting to the eye level of teenagers was by no means an easy task.
Considering the reading pace of young people, we adjusted the length of sentences and carefully selected each word.
In addition, we went through a process of checking to see if the original meaning or taste of the text was damaged, if there were any leaps in the process of reducing the original text's length, and if the original text's vividness was fully preserved.
Additionally, we designed it to be sensual and luxurious for the visually-sensitive youth who are often called the video generation, and we added dense illustrations throughout the text to make it more approachable.

A helpful explanation from a current Korean language teacher!
No matter how interesting a book is, if it has no connection to the current 'me', it is unlikely to be remembered for a long time.
The Jinggeomdari Classic includes commentary written by a current Korean language teacher to help young people connect the work to their own lives.
In addition to providing friendly commentary on the author and his works, we attempted various approaches, such as why modern youth should read world-famous works from a hundred or two hundred years ago now, and what meaning they can find in them from the present perspective.
Moreover, it is packed with fun and rich information tips and visual aids, so that it goes beyond just being helpful for practical learning and is also a pleasure to look at.

The beauty of our language was added to the vividness of the original!
The Youth Bridge Classics is a series that has an exclusive contract with Penguin's 'Penguin Readers Series'.
In a world of masterpieces, rife with translations whose exact origins are unknown, it was a great joy to be able to use a solid text as the original.
To ensure that the excellent original text could be properly interpreted, we recruited the best translators recognized for their skills in their respective fields, and whenever possible, we guided the work toward preserving the beauty of the Korean language rather than foreign words or Chinese characters.
This is in consideration of the reality that young people's Korean language skills are significantly declining due to the rapid development of the Internet and excessive study of foreign languages.
I also wanted to remind people of the importance of our language.
