Book Introduction
『Connected』 is a book that explores connections with others and the world through the eyes of an artist.
Author Kay Tempest explores the journey of connection through moments of connecting with audiences on stage as a rapper, and the journey of breaking free from the male-female binary and declaring herself non-binary.
Through this medium, the author presents ‘creativity.’
A realm of human commonality that has existed for longer than the beliefs and identities demanded by the times.
A passageway to a depth beyond the socially defined self.
The author finds creativity not only in the process of artistic creation, but also in all attempts to create non-exploitative relationships.
A book for artists and everyday “authors of experience” who want to connect with the world without being an avatar of anything.
An artistic critique of the spirit of the times that was believed to be correct.
The flow of the prose is as rhythmic as the author's rap.

Book structure

The book is divided into seven chapters that follow the flow of the stage performance.
In "Setup," concepts such as creativity, connection, and empathy are introduced, in "Sound Check," the issue of self-awareness is addressed, and in "Door," the socially demanded "me of the times" and the original "me of the depths," are explored.
In "Cheongjo Gongyeon," he speaks of a non-exploitative relationship with the world, in "Preparation," he speaks of creation as a process of connecting with readers by summoning human sensibilities without being confined by the ideologies and identities defined by our times, and in "On the Stage," he speaks of the precariousness of living as oneself on stage.
The final "Moment of Connection" talks about the shift in perspective and practice needed to achieve connection.
In the Korean edition of this book, Jong-Hyeon Park, a contemporary creator and art critic of “Summer of Thought,” added a recommendation.

Into the book
What drives this process is not just language itself, but language unfolding in sequences that accurately capture the depth of emotion.
That language becomes a medium connecting moments and emotions, a medium connecting the stage and the audience, the performance hall and the audience, the day that has accompanied everyone there and the prospect of the night that will come from now on.
Following that path, we move on to a moment of feeling together.
A path that connects the entire space unfolds, and along that path, everyone there lands here, now.
This is the moment when creativity leads to connection.
--- p.74

We become conduits for the beliefs we support and those we oppose.
I silence my delicate knots in order to project myself into the collective consciousness as just and proper, at the extremes of this and that camp.
Instead, enjoy the support you get from others.
I am the Cross of St. George.
I am All Cops A Bastards.
If it bothers you, I'll curse you.
I know who I am.
I am what I believe in.
--- p.86

The spectrum of life unfolding in depth, the absence of consciousness throughout it, easily silences its own uncomfortable points.
And that silence is also asserted when reading others.
I hate people who reveal themselves in a multi-layered and multifaceted way, just like their original self.
They want to arbitrarily and smoothly divide people into 'them' and 'us' based on their common background.
(…) If it is a conviction that becomes stronger only when accepted by others, then it is not a conviction but a lie.
If you dig a little deeper into that lie, you will lose your way.
--- pp.91-92

Anyway, I need both darkness and light.
I also tried to write something that would drive away the darkness and leave only light.
I've thought that an album filled with possibility would offer a more useful outlook on the world than an album written with heartbreak, but no such writing has been done yet.
Balance is a wishful thinking goal, not a true reflection of life, and cannot be a choice.

Publisher's Review
The first prose collection by Kay Tempest, a musician, playwright, and truth-speaker who says, "Reflections of true life cannot be selective."

『Connected』 is a book that explores connection with others and the world through the experiences of an artist.
Just as someone on stage intuitively senses a connection with the audience at some point, this book offers the joy of seeing the differences between "us" and "them," each living out their own beliefs and identities, fade away.

The book begins with ‘misalignment.’
Artists become creative only by not being confined by the ideologies and norms of our time.
It creates a crack and an alternative culture sprouts in the gap.
That's how a new era is written.
However, the repetition of the cliché of smoothness dilutes them.
It becomes blurry, nothing can be changed, and established things become more rigid.
The creators of everyday life, the “authors of experience” who live their daily lives, are no different.
They diligently live out the roles that society demands, live out their status as consumers in a capitalist society, and live out the beliefs of 'us' that are more just and valuable than the beliefs of 'them'.
And soon I come to believe that they are me.
The responses, comments, and likes were incredibly tempting, and being thrown helplessly onto this tilted playing field brought out not warmth and respect for others commensurate with the tilt, but fierce competition and even a feeling of disgust.
So, whether we become creators who create works of art or authors of experiences that build our daily lives, the misalignment of those who live their lives as themselves and thereby seek to fully connect with the world is also a practice of 'misalignment.'
The author follows those traces.
