Meet the textbook-included book "The Happy Janitor" as youth literature!

『The Happy Janitor』 『The Man Who Collects Thoughts』 『The Painter Who Went to the Sea』 are picture books published one per year from 2000 to 2002.
Upon its publication in November 2000, The Happy Janitor unexpectedly garnered considerable media attention. Despite the fact that this format and writing style were not readily available in the picture book market at the time, people in various media outlets (online bookstore reviews, editorial reviews, reader reviews, etc.) were full of praise for the book.
Additionally, it has been recommended, selected, and included in textbooks as a must-read book by various organizations including the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Children's Book Research Association, and has received much attention and love to this day.

However, what many readers felt was unfortunate was that because it was a picture book, it was not easy to convey it to young people and general readers.
So, I began to wonder if there was a way to broadly connect with a wider readership, encompassing the heartfelt yet heartwarming content contained within these books. After exploring various approaches, I finally published this revised edition, combining the three volumes into one, reorganized into a portable format for easy reading.

Publisher's Review
Different yet the same faces named happiness!

The stories of the three people in this book show us, above all else, what true happiness is.
The cleaning man who quietly did his work and reminded us of the true meaning of learning, the sullen man who went around collecting thoughts, observing the various forms of thoughts and helping them to be born as new thoughts, and the painter grandfather who never gave up on his dream even in old age and eventually painted the sea.
These are all images of happy people, although they are not revealed.

The main characters of “The Happy Janitor Who Makes the World Beautiful” are not the people at the center of the world.
It is closer to the appearance of people living in the periphery, corners, or invisible places.
But they know.
'What is true happiness, and what it means to be truly happy?' Whether it's daily life, work, or a dream, it's doing something you truly love, and that feeling is the first step to happiness.
Even if we are busy and tired, there are things we cannot give up on.
That is the mind that wants to be happy.
As you read these words, you will come to realize how enjoyable learning can be, how precious thoughts are, and how beautiful dreams are.
And you will feel that all of it is always in your mind.
