Bold ideas that don't appear in textbooks
Description
Book Introduction
Creativity is about being "original" rather than "great."
Bold ideas change the world!
"Bold Ideas Not in Textbooks" contains stories of people who changed the world with their quirky and original ideas.
The unique strength they possess is creativity.
Creativity is more about being 'original' than 'great'.
An attitude that doesn't bow to the world's ridicule or authority, a sensitivity that allows you to open your five senses and absorb diverse information, an observational ability that allows you to pay attention to even common phenomena encountered in everyday life, the courage to turn weaknesses into strengths, and an eye that sees value and potential even in things that others overlook—all of these are creative abilities.
This book, divided into three parts, covers the past, present, and future of creativity.
It also narrates twenty-eight incidents related to creativity in narrative form.
Through the narrative contained in the story, I aimed to convey to young readers the circumstances and context in which creativity is expressed in an interesting way, and to capture the changes that various characters bring about in the world.
Part 1 features anecdotes about creative people who were ahead of their time, but were once criticized and rejected by the public, although they are now taken for granted.
Part 2 introduces the stories of people who have shaped the flow of the society we live in, both relatively recently and to this day.
Part 3 tells the stories of people with limitless creative potential who will transform society and create new trends in the near future.
Each chapter contains fun and unique problems to help students think of creative solutions to problems they encounter in their daily lives, and can also be used in class.

Publisher's Review
Even if you criticize me for being foolish, or make fun of me for being ridiculous,
Reject the 'obvious'!
How is it possible to change the world? What kind of people change the world? Those with power, wealth, and fame? Famous figures whose names are universally recognized? Geniuses who emerge only once every few years? Of course, these individuals can also contribute to changing the world.
However, a slightly different story appears in 『Ridiculous Thoughts Not in Textbooks』.
This book contains stories of people who changed the world with their quirky and ingenious ideas.

Creativity is more about being 'original' than 'great'.
When faced with a problem, the attitude of trying to solve it rather than taking it for granted or giving up easily is what leads to creativity.
So creativity is a power that anyone can have.
How we manifest it depends on our perspective and attitude toward everything in the world.
Creativity, the power to make the impossible possible and transform the familiar into something new
In "Bold Ideas Not in Textbooks," which consists of three parts, twenty-eight incidents related to creativity are described in story form.
Through the narrative contained in the story, I aimed to convey to young readers the circumstances and context in which creativity is expressed in an interesting way, and to capture the changes that various characters bring about in the world.
Part 1 talks about the past of creativity.
It features anecdotes of creative people who were ahead of their time and were once criticized and rejected by many, although it is now taken for granted.
Part 2 deals with the present state of creativity.
We introduce the stories of people who have shaped the flow of the society we live in, both relatively recently and to this day.
Part 3 talks about the future of creativity.
It tells the story of people with limitless creative potential who will change society and create new trends in the near future.
Additionally, each chapter contains fun and unique problems to help students think of creative solutions to problems they encounter in their daily lives, and can be used in class as well.
The world moves forward, little by little, thanks to the creativity of 'ordinary' people.
This book presents a different perspective from the mindset that regards creativity as a mere tool for generating huge profits by associating it with things like "patents, intellectual property rights, inventions of the century, wealth, and fame."
A closer look at the events of creativity throughout history reveals that there are far more examples of creativity that have contributed to the well-being and development of humanity.
Tesla, who did not bow to the authority of Edison, who was his employer and mentor, created an alternating current electrical system that could easily supply electricity to more people, and transferred the patent rights to the company so that it could be widely used.
Muhammad Yunus, who broke away from the system and pioneered a new path, founded the Grameen Bank with just $27, changing the lives of the poor.
Victor Papanek, who believed that design was not unrelated to social issues and that it should participate in the path to creating a better world, saved countless lives with his tin radio.
Meanwhile, forensic pathologist Moon Kook-jin, who analyzed Van Gogh's paintings from a forensic perspective, and astronomer Lee Tae-hyung, who uncovered the secrets hidden in Shin Yun-bok's paintings, demonstrated that creativity can be maximized when disparate fields converge.
Kamkwamba, a boy living in a small African village, is changing the future of Africa by building a windmill with pure passion that he wants to achieve on his own without being told to do so, and Jack Andraka, a high school student in the United States, has developed an innovative pancreatic cancer screening method using the Internet, which is just a pastime for some, and has been able to increase the early detection rate of pancreatic cancer to nearly 100%.
They are all examples of how ordinary people can change the world.
In addition, 'biased broadcasting', which chooses humor instead of the conventional practice of fair sports broadcasting, is creating a new culture by openly cheering for a specific team, providing various pleasures to baseball fans.
I hope more bold ideas will change the world.
Creativity, or 'new thinking', changes the world, but when viewed through the 'eyes of everyday life' steeped in inertia, it is just an unfamiliar and strange idea.
But the world is becoming a more pleasant, convenient, warmer, and livable place thanks to the people who keep coming up with new ideas and putting them into practice.
Adolescence is a time when one can exercise boundless imagination that older generations cannot, but it is also a time when one is not free from the authority of adults.
Our society is so immersed in the daily grind that even the most budding new ideas sometimes wither without even having a chance to sprout.
But those who do not take such reality for granted, those who are not afraid to dream of a new world and put it into practice, are the ones who change the world.
The simple truth that being different from others is the foundation of creativity, and that people who consistently strive with their own joy and passion create new things, is also the hidden secret of creativity.
I hope this book will awaken the limitless creative potential of readers, and that more "unconventional ideas" will change and create a new world.
