Arang and Yeondu, middle school students who only know each other by face, happen to spend the day together while running errands for their teacher on the day of the Daejeon Expo picnic.
Arang is serious to the point of being absurd, and Yeondu believes that everyone likes her.
Arang, who finds Yeondu strange, and Yeondu, who is curious about Arang, become best friends from that day on.
But now that they are high school students, the two are competing for first place.
Arang, who tries to do her best, and Yeondu, who wants to be the best, are in a tense standoff like a sword and a shield.
Arang, who had little time to study due to helping her relatives, takes her final exams with an anxious heart, and her ominous premonitions become reality.
The day when Arang's world, where she had always been number one, collapsed with a single report card, Arang realizes something.
That within the desire to do one's best, there was also the desire to be the best.

Publisher's Review
“It’s so much fun even though only model students appear!”
Recommended by Mikang, author of "Drunken City Girls"
Chapter 16.
The road to a new leap forward
In 1993, Arang and Yeondu went on a picnic to the Daejeon Expo.
The two people, who went to the same middle school and only knew each other by face, happen to spend a day together and develop feelings for each other because of their completely different appearances.
Chapter 17.
Final exam
The morning of the last day of final exams.
Yeondu relaxes by playing the piano, Eun eats a hearty breakfast, and Arang never lets go of her notebook until the very end.
Each of them, in their own way, keeps the tension high until the last day of the final exam.
Arang accidentally got a question wrong on the first period history test, and while thinking about the question she got wrong, she couldn't focus on the next test subject, and as a result, she ended up giving up first place for the first time...
Chapter 18.
I thought it was mine
Arang, who thinks she missed out on first place because she was helping her uncle with his work, disobeys the adults for the first time and does not keep the promise she made to her uncle.
Arang's mother blames her, saying that character is more important than studying, and Arang is only upset that her mother does not understand her situation and feelings.
