Schumann / Liszt Tribute, Op. 25
Description
Book Introduction
Franz Liszt, who arranged Schumann's [Dedication] into a piano piece that requires a high level of technique, transformed this familiar song into a dramatic declaration that reaches a powerful climax using chords played with the utmost passion.
In Liszt's autographed score, the lyrics are written over the melody, but he changed the title to 'Song of Love'.
The first edition, published in Leipzig in 1848, retained this title, which Liszt had given it, and so the piece is known to this day under two different titles.
In collaboration with Liszt scholar Maria Eckhart, Henle Verlag presents this best-known of Liszt's Schumann arrangements in a Henle edition that guarantees its quality.
