Into the book
Unless we were in a particularly expensive city, we would budget around $500 a month for accommodation and under $1,000 for living expenses.
It can't be considered generous.
For some, this is a once-in-a-lifetime trip, so there's no need to limit your budget so strictly.
However, if there are people who are hesitant to live for a month because of money, we hope they will willingly learn our know-how.
Remember that the journey you live in your life is not so far away.
--- p.11
Those who have been laid off are the ones who have been given the opportunity to live for a month.
Because those on leave have time, adequate funds, and above all, a strong desire to rest.
Moreover, as people experience living for a month, the number of cases where they naturally move to the life of a digital nomad is increasing.
Those who have settled into the life of a one-month-long life are using their professional skills to work regardless of location (we are also finishing the first draft of this book in Bali, Indonesia).
--- p.18
I recommend living for a month if you want to spend quality time with your child or give yourself a break from parenting.
(Omitted) What if parents also viewed their one-month stay as a gift not only to their children but also to themselves for their hard work? Choosing a city to live in for a month would be a good idea, as it's a place they truly wanted to visit.
Only when parents are happy can the child find happiness.
--- p.22
I (Eun-deok) was able to figure out how much sleep I need to wake up refreshed without an alarm and how much sleep my body needs only after going on a month-long trip.
Before, I was so caught up in my daily routine that I couldn't even observe my sleeping patterns.
A month spent in an unfamiliar place is like a gift, a time to slowly look back and reflect on myself, as if it were the first time in my life.
I can objectively examine the gap between what I want to be and what I can achieve.
--- p.25
For example, if a property has around 100 reviews, you would read up to the 20th review to decide whether it is a place worth staying at.
If there are more positive reviews than negative ones, start by negotiating a deal through messaging. Then, read the remaining reviews and make a final decision about whether to book if a deal is reached.
Of course, if a property already has more than 100 reviews, there is a high probability that it is a very good property.
However, you should keep in mind that what is good for others may not be good for you, so you should check whether the accommodation meets your needs.

“Feliz Navidad!” At midnight, Patricia’s family hugs us tightly as they celebrate the birth of Jesus.
Then, they gave us traditional crafts and beer made in Valdivia as Christmas gifts for us who had only been there for two days.
We don't know what to do, so we stamp our feet and search for a translation app.
Look into their eyes.
Although we couldn't communicate verbally, the warmth of the South American people was conveyed through their eyes.
--- p.147
While I was in Zurich, I visited many places, and most indoor public facilities, such as art galleries and museums, required proof of vaccination to enter.
'You know, we've all been vaccinated.
It doesn't matter.
'Right?' It's something like that. To be honest, before visiting Switzerland, we didn't have much faith in vaccines.
I just thought of it as a necessary procedure for going abroad.
But during our month in Switzerland, we, like the Swiss, came to believe in the effectiveness of vaccines.
(Omitted) Living for a month always brings us to certain points that lead to changes in our lives.
If it had been a short trip, a tight schedule, or simply a busy one, the Swiss way of dealing with the coronavirus would not have been so naturally ingrained in our values.
It can't be considered generous.

Publisher's Review
Even in a pandemic, the monthly living continues!
#1 Best Travel in 2020
『Living for a Month, Not Traveling』 New Edition
Just before the pandemic, the #1 travel bestseller, "Living for a Month, Not Traveling," was published in a new edition that includes a month-long stay in Zurich (Switzerland), Izmir (Turkey), and Tbilisi (Georgia) in 2021-2022.
"Living for a Month, Not Traveling" is a manual book for living for a month written by Eun-deok Kim and Jong-min Baek, who have gone on a monthly living trip of living in one city for a month 45 times.
Unlike existing travel books that focus on local information about travel destinations, 『Living for a Month, Not Traveling』 introduces the travel style called 'Living for a Month' and guides you to put it into practice, from the advantages of living for a month, where to live for a month, how to buy airline tickets economically, to how to build good relationships with neighbors at your travel destination.
The 2022 New Edition offers detailed guidance for those considering a one-month stay during the pandemic, ensuring that their long-awaited journey isn't thwarted by the unpredictable nature of the pandemic.
I wanted to travel to see the true essence of a place, not to travel with a tight schedule, not to travel obsessed with famous tourist attractions, not to travel obsessed with delicious food.
Fortunately, Jongmin and I were able to discover the kind of trip we wanted on our own.
How to become more relaxed, more content with yourself, and more often travel with happiness.
So, I'm talking about the 'one month living' travel method.
(Page 15)
Now, I wish you a month of life!
The reason why writers Kim Eun-deok and Baek Jong-min first started living for a month was because of fatigue.
With a hectic schedule, they were forced to take more pictures of tourist spots than other travelers and were obsessed with trying out all the delicious restaurants. The two of them were exhausted from the travel they loved so much.
The one-month living travel method started from a desire to travel differently from before.
Living for a month is a travel method that involves staying in a local neighborhood for about a month, preferably renting a local home, and sharing daily life with local neighbors.
Through this trip, writers Kim Eun-deok and Baek Jong-min were able to experience more than just travel.
Authors Kim Eun-deok and Baek Jong-min talk about five main benefits of living for a month.
★ First, it can be an alternative to overtourism.
★ Second, you can discover a lifestyle that suits you.
★ Third, we can understand that the world is wide and we are all just different from each other.
★ Fourth, daily physical strength is sufficient.
★ Fifth, it doesn’t cost as much as you might think.
Both authors say that everyone needs to live for a month.
I believe that just one month of escaping the stress of financial hardship and lack of time, and living a life that is solely focused on your body and mind, will provide an opportunity to reflect on your own identity and discover a lifestyle that suits you.
In particular, I recommend living for a month to these people.
★ People on leave & preparing to change jobs
Many office workers use their time off from work or between jobs to travel abroad.
Those with extensive travel experience have a strong thirst for unique travel experiences.
Living for a month is an attractive way to travel that can satisfy these desires, while also providing time to focus on hobbies like writing, yoga, and surfing.
You can also meet local long-term travelers and discover the potential of 'digital nomads' and 'half-holidays.'
★ Retired couples in their 50s or older
For retired couples in their 50s or older with plenty of time and peace of mind, living for a month is a travel method with many economic and physical benefits.
The cost of living for a month in Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan, where local prices are low, is actually less than the cost of living for a month in our country.
There are many low-cost flights, and accommodations with pools and gyms cost less than 500,000 won per month for two people.
Compared to short-term trips focused on tourist attractions, there is less physical exhaustion and you can also distribute the burden on your body from jet lag, weather, food, etc.
★ Parents and children
You can take advantage of your child's vacation to go on a month-long trip.
You can plan your one-month stay in various ways, depending on whether you plan your schedule around experiential activities or language training.
For children, it will be an opportunity to experience a new culture, and for parents, it will be a gift to themselves after being exhausted from parenting.
A good city to live in for the first month / A good city to live in during the summer /
A good city to live in in the winter / A good city to go with kids / A city with low prices…
City Curation by Kim Eun-deok and Baek Jong-min
The second half of “Living for a Month, Not Traveling” is “Curation of Cities to Live for a Month.”
In the “Which city is right for me?” corner, you can discover a city that suits your taste by following “YES or NO”, and you can also find cities to live in for a month according to curated themes such as “A good city to live in for the first month” and “A good city to live in in the summer.”
All 21 cities introduced are places where writers Kim Eun-deok and Baek Jong-min actually lived for a month, and each city is divided into categories such as weather/cost of living/accommodation/transportation/things to do, and detailed information is included.
Author Kim Eun-deok said that she was only able to find the right amount of sleep after leaving the one-month living arrangement.
Without an alarm or the pressure of commuting, I was able to find a time to sleep that made my body and mind feel refreshed.
Author Baek Jong-min developed a running habit while traveling for a month.
Even after returning to Seoul, I continued to run regularly, and when I learned that a marathon was held in Sapporo in the summer, I even decided to live there for a month.
For the two of them, living for a month was a source of vitality and stimulation in their lives, both while traveling and when they returned home.
The goal of 『Living for a Month, Not Traveling』 is to enable readers to practice living for a month through this book.
To this end, writers Kim Eun-deok and Baek Jong-min meticulously organized the know-how they have accumulated since 2013 on living for a month.
This book will be a good guidebook for readers who want to live for a month but feel lost and afraid.
"Living for a Month, Not Traveling" is a refreshing read that offers new suggestions even to readers who aren't particularly interested in traveling.
As the author said, “I hope that everyone is given a month to put aside their busy schedules and reflect on themselves,” this month is likely to be a month that is absolutely necessary for everyone.
I recommend this book to readers who put an exclamation point on “pause.”
