The Village Grandma's Buen Camino
The Village Grandma's Buen Camino
Description
Book Introduction
This book is the story of author Kang Jeong-suk's pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, but as readers turn each page, they will discover themselves trudging along their own path, a path they must take, a path they must persevere through, no matter the difficulties.
The old woman's "Buen Camino" might ultimately be a greeting to ourselves on the road, as we embark on our own path.

A country girl who doesn't speak a word of English and has never been on a plane before boards a plane to France for the first time in her life and embarks on the 800-kilometer pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. The path demands nothing from her but walking, and she demands nothing from the path.

For 51 days, Gil and Halmae spend time on the road, sometimes embracing affectionately, and sometimes fighting fiercely.
One day, as the author continued his pilgrimage, repeating to himself in every desperate moment, “Never give up! If you fall down, that’s the end!”, he saw a warrior instead of a country girl reflected in his mirror.

If there is anyone who is hesitating in front of the path they should take,
This book will gently reach out to such people and provide them with warm guidance.

Finally, the beginning of this book was to express gratitude to the many angels who helped Grandma complete her journey.
The author says that next time he walks that path, he wants to become an angel himself.

Into the book
I definitely saw jaw-dropping scenery every day, and I saw many old and famous buildings, but I couldn't think of those things. Instead, I thought of the people who helped me when I was having a hard time, the people I met when I ran into them, passed them by, or met at the albergue or cafe, and every time I thought of those things, I couldn't help but smile.

I guess my expression changed naturally because I was smiling inside.
People tell me that I look different and more beautiful, even though they don't know what it is.
What would be pretty?
I didn't apply sunscreen even once, so I ended up with black spots.
But I agree that it feels different.
Because I feel that my mind has changed.

One day I asked myself:
'You might die there, but do you still want to go?'
Without even a second of hesitation, I said, 'Yeah, I'll go anyway.'
'Then I should go. I might die, but if I still want to go, I should go.'
--- p.24

The thing I said to myself countless times while walking was, 'Even if today was difficult to handle, don't let today's difficulties hold you back tomorrow!'

Since you'll be walking in the sun in the afternoon, I recommend starting early and finishing early if possible.
The sunshine is no joke.
It was a winding road with ups and downs, but thanks to the cloudy weather, we arrived at Santo Domingo de la Calzada at a turtle's pace.

Today I walked 20.9km and came to 211.7km.

Since I didn't know how to make a reservation for accommodation, I just walked a little bit, went to the albergue early, waited until it opened, and then solved it. This was the first day I successfully made a reservation for accommodation by following the advice of the precious people who saved me from sleeping on the street.
Also, when I went to a cafe, I used to order bread and coffee with my fingers, and I also ordered food and ate it.
I was so proud of myself that he gave me a thumbs up and a thumbs up!

I walked 25.2km and reached 349km to Fromista.

Walking down a dark road can be scary, but if I just let it be, fear doesn't do anything to me.
If you look without getting close, fear will not come close and will disappear when you look at it and the darkness clears.

I didn't even know I was bitten by bed bugs, but it was so itchy that I looked and saw that my whole body except my face was covered in red flowers. I didn't have the energy to do anything because of the itchiness, so I ignored it, and after about a week of discomfort, it went away.

This is the Palas de Rei.
I walked 11.5km and came to 709.4km.

One writer once said that walking is like reading a book with your body.
I read through a book that was too difficult and overwhelming for me to read.
