Senior Cha Deok-hu tells us
A cup of tea holds countless stories.
This is the moment when knowledge becomes a pleasure. 『Tea House Daily Life』

You may have seen the word “cha” or “tea” tucked away in a corner of the menu at a cafe.
What if there's an exciting story hidden in that cup of tea we carelessly chose instead of coffee?

『Tea Life』 introduces the vast history, culture, and art contained in a cup of tea through the keyword ‘movie.’
The world of tea, with its endless stories, is revealed in a fun and profound way through scenes from the movie.
In particular, he approaches beginners who are just starting out in the car industry in a friendly manner by telling them various stories related to cars.

The history of tea begins with "if," the reason why each tea has a different name even though it is made from the same tea tree leaf, and the various stories hidden within tea, such as how it played a key role in changing world history and played a significant role in the birth of democracy.
As you follow each one, you will realize that tea is not just a simple beverage, but a story of life steeped in history, culture, and art, and a treasure trove of the humanities.

Into the book
In an era where tastes are infinitely segmented.
The taste for tea is just taking its first steps.
At a time when tea tastes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, I wanted to convey to those who want to know more about tea that tea is not just something to drink and be done with, but rather a boundless "treasure trove of humanities" containing incredibly interesting and diverse stories.

--- p.15

There are only two words in the world that refer to tea.
Tea and Cha.
There is te, tee, chay, and shay, but they are all similar to tea or cha.
How is it that in a world with so many languages, there are only two words for tea? Because tea originated in China.

--- p.19

What exactly is the difference between powdered tea and loose-leaf tea? Doesn't powdered tea and loose-leaf tea both become "drinkable tea" when steeped in water? The answer is a resounding "no."
There are grades of tea leaves made by picking, drying, and roasting tea tree leaves.
The highest quality tea leaves are 'whole leaf' tea leaves, which are made by preserving the shape of the leaves without damaging them at all.
The more finely the tea leaves are chopped, the lower the grade.

--- p.52

It's not the 'ridiculous' in 'ridiculous'.
It is written in Chinese characters as 'oolong tea (烏龍茶)', but the Chinese pronunciation of 'oolong' is 'oolong', so it is 'oolong tea'.
It is named after the tea leaves that are black like a crow (烏) and curved like a dragon (龍).
Oolong tea is known to be particularly effective in calming the mind and body.
This is the reason why I exclaimed the famous line from the movie Parasite, "You have it all planned out," while watching the scene in the movie Hummingbird where Teacher Young-ji pours Eun-hee a cup of oolong tea.

--- p.103

One quiz.
What are the world's top three black teas? British black tea? You're completely wrong.
Although Britain has become synonymous with tea as tea culture flourished in Britain, there is no such thing as 'British tea'.
Britain simply imported black tea and branded it well.
The world's three major black teas are India's Darjeeling tea, Sri Lanka's Uva tea, and China's Keemun tea.

--- p.152

In the movie Begin Again, Dave, who is about to embark on the recording of a lifetime, drinks a cup of matcha.
And that too in a proper tea bowl.
Director John Carney, who even wrote the script for Begin Again, said, "It seems like you know a lot about matcha.
Are there people who don't know what matcha is? Just because you know the word "matcha" doesn't mean you know it.
Knowing that 'it contains 400 antioxidants' doesn't mean you know about matcha.
If you know something like, 'Samurai drank this when they went to war,' you can be considered someone who knows a little about matcha.

--- p.210

Herbal teas, including chamomile, are not actually teas.
Based on the academic definition, only something made from tea tree leaves can be called 'tea'.
There are six major types of tea: green tea, white tea, yellow tea, oolong tea, black tea, and dark tea.
Herbs do not fall into the tea category because the leaves of the herb are not tea leaves.
It belongs to the category of 'substitute vehicles' that replace cars.
In addition to herbal teas, teas made from fruits or berries, such as wolfberry tea, mugwort tea, and sweet potato tea, are also substitute teas.
What does it matter whether it's a car or a substitute?
Just enjoy it and feel happy.

Publisher's Review
The moment a cup of tea becomes a story,
The scent spreads into our daily lives.

Tea House Daily Life

While there are ways to enjoy tea, such as smelling it with your nose and savoring it with your mouth, listening to the interesting stories behind the tea is also a way to enjoy tea just as much.
Maybe that's the way to enjoy tea more properly.
If you want to know the interesting stories behind tea, 『Tea Life』 is the perfect book.
As I read the writing of author Kim So-yeon (Maeil Business Newspaper editor-in-chief), who wittily unravels the world of tea, which I wanted to know about but didn't, or knew about but misunderstood, with her unique language, I feel a liveliness as if her nerd energy is bursting out between the letters.
The author, a true tea enthusiast who loves tea more than anyone else, is filled with curiosity to taste all the teas from around the world and discover the interesting stories hidden within them, and that curiosity is fully reflected in the book.
After reading the book, readers will feel a renewed desire to go beyond simply enjoying tea in their daily lives and explore the world of tea with a curious gaze.
