Into the book
Thailand has freedom of religion, but more than 95% of the population is Buddhist.
Buddhism in Thailand is Theravada Buddhism, which teaches individual liberation.
During the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, the foundation of national governance and social order were established based on Buddhist ideology.
In Thai society, monks hold absolute status and are the most important and respected class externally.
Thai men become monks once in their lives, and this is called 'Buetnak'.
This is considered one of the ways to accumulate merit, and after completing the practice, one is recognized as a true saint.
--- From "Meeting Thailand in Advance"
Thailand has long been a world-class granary, a country rich in spices and tropical fruits.
The inland rivers and canals are rich in freshwater fish, and the country is bordered by the sea on three sides, so it is characterized by an abundance of various seafood.
Thai food also has a complex character, drawing influences from China, India, and neighboring countries.
'Kgaeng', a type of thick curry, was influenced by India, noodles, various soups, a type of porridge called 'Jeok', and non-spicy stir-fried foods came from China, and various desserts using eggs, such as 'Tong Ip' and 'Tong Yop', came from Portugal.
The combination of Thailand's abundant food resources and diverse culture throughout the year has created a unique food culture that has become popular around the world.
--- From "Taste Thailand! Thai Soul Food"
The main modes of transportation on Sukhumvit Road are undoubtedly the BTS Skytrain and the MRT subway.
Nana Station, Asok Station, and Phrom Phong Station are connected along Sukhumvit Road, and hotels, restaurants, and shopping centers are developed around these stations.
Asok Station is also a station that intersects with the MRT Sukhumvit Station.
Since there are many relatively long distances, it may be difficult to walk, so you should look at a map in advance and consider taking a taxi or motorcycle taxi (moto) from the entrance of the soi (alley).
The soi is divided into odd numbers to the north and even numbers to the south, centered around Sukhumvit Boulevard.
--- From "Sukhumvit I"
As Bangkok's first port, this area is steeped in history, with immigrants including Chinese, Portuguese, Vietnamese and Khmer settling there over 200 years ago.
Historic buildings remain here and there, and even the narrow alleys branching off the main road (Soi Wanit 2) are each full of their own character.
It's only about 1km long, so you can easily tour it in 2-3 hours. There are signs at every entrance to the alley, so you don't have to worry about getting lost.
Best fit if you depart from River City Bangkok around 4 PM, see Talad Noi, enjoy the sunset at a riverside tea house, and then head to Chinatown for dinner!
--- From "Special Tour Talat Noi"
Built in the 16th century before Bangkok became the new capital, it is the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok.
It has special significance because of its giant Buddha statue and tradition.
The reclining Buddha statue, which is 46 meters long and 15 meters high, depicts the Buddha entering nirvana, and the soles of its feet are detailed with pictures depicting the 108 earthly desires.
Between the main hall and the Buddha statue, you can see four large chedis.
This is the Phra Si Sanphet Buddha statue from Ayutthaya that was burned down during the war with Burma, brought to Wat Pho and enshrined there, and a pagoda (green) was built. Later, Rama III built white and yellow pagodas, and Rama IV built a blue pagoda, so there are now four pagodas of different colors in the east, west, south, and north.
Another significance of Wat Pho is that it is also called the first university in Thailand, as scholars and scholars of the time gathered here to discuss various subjects, including religion, medicine, and literature, and leave records of their findings.
With the full support of the royal family, it has developed into a true center of education for various academic disciplines, and to this day, it serves as the headquarters of traditional Thai medicine, including massage schools.
--- From "What For"
There are several night markets in Pattaya, but the most famous among tourists is Thepprasit Night Market.
This night market is located on the road from downtown Pattaya to Jomtien. It is large and decorated in a modern style.
However, fusion food catering to foreigners is the trend, and it is incredibly crowded due to tourists.
If you're looking for a place close to the city center where you can connect with locals, we recommend Buakao Market or Wat Chaimongkon Market.
Both are permanent markets open during the day, but become a street vendor paradise in the evening.
Buakhao Market has a good mix of table seating available between stalls and the prices are reasonable.
Wat Chai Mongkhon Market is like a little Chinatown in Pattaya.
An alley selling cheap food has also been formed.
It's close to Walking Street, so you can fill your stomach even late at night.
--- From "Night Market Paradise, Pattaya!"
Thailand is a country blessed with fertile land and abundant marine resources, as evidenced by the saying, "There are fish in the water and rice in the fields (Nainam miplah naina mikhao)".
As the only country in Asia that has never been invaded by a foreign power, an atmosphere of enjoying gourmet food has naturally developed in its rich natural environment and stable social environment.
Through exchanges with other countries, Thailand's food culture has become more diverse and has become one of its important tourist resources.
