History Trekking Introduction to Seoul Studies
Description
Book Introduction
Introduction to Seoul Studies: History Trekking is the name of a course the author opened at the cultural center.
It is also the title of this book.
History Trekking Seoul Studies is a program that allows you to explore famous places around Seoul on your own two feet.
It is a trekking trip to explore history and culture.
You move by walking instead of driving, and in the process, you naturally end up walking 10,000 steps.
It is a program that kills two birds with one stone by taking care of your health.
So, I transferred the scenes I saw with the members into this book.
Readers can now sit back and enjoy a trek with 『History Trekking Introduction to Seoul Studies』.

Into the book
“Mountaineering is a vertical movement, and trekking is a horizontal movement.
Let's take Bukhansan Mountain as an example.
“If you climb Baekundae, you’ve hiked, and if you walk around Bukhansan Mountain, you’ve trekked.”
--- p.12
But the trekking team's hearts were already set on the colorful autumn leaves.
I would have thought the same thing.
Rather than listening to a boring explanation, I'd much rather take pictures with the colorful autumn leaves as a backdrop! It was simply astonishing to see such vibrant autumn foliage in Seoul.
It was truly ironic to be gazing at such beautiful scenery from a place that had been a route for armed guerrillas!
In the place where the gunshots had disappeared, beautiful maple leaves had fallen.
--- p.121
As the world has changed, the Han River has also changed.
As it is a river in the capital city of Seoul, it was destined to change.
But there were some things that didn't change.
What is it? It's the relationship between the Han River and the people of Seoul.
The two are inseparable.
Seoul exists because of the Han River.
Let's take Bukhansan Mountain as an example.
“If you climb Baekundae, you’ve hiked, and if you walk around Bukhansan Mountain, you’ve trekked.”
--- p.12

Publisher's Review
- A trekking instructor who ended up in the hospital after walking
Author Kwak (real name Kwak Dong-woon), who wrote “Introduction to Seoul Studies: History Trekking,” has the grand title of “History Trekking Master.”
But despite the fancy name, he spoke as if confessing that he realized too late what he liked.
Perhaps because I didn't have any surrounding brains, it took me a long time to figure out specifically what I was good at and what I liked.
He says that he added the title 'Master' to his title to mean that he wanted to do it properly since it took him a long time to realize it.
It is said that he worked hard to live up to the title of Master.
He smiled and said that he had run about 100km to create a 10km course.
It means that they were busy working to create a course that was a little better for walking and easier for field trips.
Sometimes, such tasks were so excessive that I ended up in the hospital.
The hamstring is pulled.
I had to get treatment for hamstring tendonitis even though I'm not a soccer player.
Did such somewhat reckless endeavors bear fruit? Writer Kwak's trekking lectures were met with rave reviews.
Sometimes, there were times when it was so successful that applications closed as soon as they were accepted.
“I love being able to explore Seoul’s famous sights while trekking.
“You can do a field trip and take care of your health at the same time, killing two birds with one stone.”
This is a review of the course that students unanimously say.
It's like killing two birds with one stone, taking care of your health and gaining knowledge.
In fact, this book can be said to be the author's lecture notes.
The day before the trekking class, I carefully organized the materials I had been passing around, hoping to get a high attendance rate, and made them into a book.
The author emphasized that since it was data used directly in the field, it was cross-checked in a tangled manner like a spider's web.
I understand that it has a strong sense of reality and solid cross-checking, but the map that is included like an illustration seems a bit odd.
In fact, the author also felt awkward about this part and said this.
“Doesn’t the map look like an elementary school student’s drawing?”
In fact, the author confessed that he drew the map himself as if he were painting it to avoid copyright issues.
However, because the drawing skills were so poor, the map came out at an elementary school level.
But perhaps because I've only seen so many standardized maps, my eyes are drawn to the author's colorful maps.
Still, I hope to see further improvement in your drawing skills in the next book.
The author is already planning his next book, "History Trekking: Introduction to Korean Studies."
The footsteps that have been walking all over Seoul will now spread to every corner of the country.
