Publisher's Review
2023, the fourth story
Gourmet Heo Young-man's journey to find the 'true taste' continues.
From ingredients and recipes to the stories and history behind the food.
There is a huge difference between eating knowingly and eating unknowingly!
Cartoonist Heo Young-man, who wrote Korea's representative food cartoon "Sikgaek" with a strong curiosity about food, persistent research, and thorough background research.
Based on the wealth of food knowledge he acquired while writing his work, he traveled all over the country in search of ‘real restaurants.’
From the mountain village table that boasts tofu made from farmed soybeans, to the southern coast table that includes grilled croaker, pickled soybean leaves, marinated sea squirt, and grilled squid, to the spicy fish stew table made with freshwater fish caught directly from the river next to the store, I would go anywhere in search of 'real taste'.
With his witty personality and honed reporting skills, he approached the restaurant owners and had them easily tell him the hidden stories behind the food, including the ingredients, recipes, and the history of the restaurant.
That is why we can introduce foods in a way that only a foodie can, such as Makguksu with a certain percentage of buckwheat, Dakgaejang made with chicken, Bulgogi with different cooking methods depending on the region, and Shabu-shabu with clams that is in season from January to March.
『Gourmet Heo Young-man's Baekban Travels』 is a book that collects only the best restaurants.
This book has become a joy and a delightful anticipation for readers who eagerly anticipate and enjoy the restaurants he has selected every year. To repay that love, he returned in 2023 with 『Gourmet Heo Young-man's Baekban Travelogue 4』.
Convenience remains with the ‘Regional Restaurant Map’ and ‘QR Code’
Heo Young-man's drawings and comments are more enjoyable
Complete your own restaurant guidebook by writing a 'review note'!
Maintaining the standards of ‘home-cooked meals, amazing value for money, and still amazing taste’ established in Volume 1, it also includes ‘regional restaurant map, my own taste notebook’ added in Volume 2.
And the 'QR code for each restaurant' added in Volume 3 has been included in Volume 4 as well, allowing you to check the latest information and maps right on the spot.
And the 'food drawings' and 'one-line comments' that seem to steal a peek into cartoonist Heo Young-man's diary share laughter and empathy, further raising readers' expectations.
Based on the information you've gathered from books and online, I hope you'll visit a restaurant and write a review note at the bottom of the text. This will make this book your own gourmet guidebook, a delightful companion on your restaurant adventures.
