A History of Western Philosophy at a Glance

To provide a glimpse into the vast and long history of Western philosophy, this book includes the birth and death dates of major philosophers who have shaped the history of Western philosophy from ancient times through the Middle Ages, modern times, and the present, along with brief introductions of them, their major works, and major historical events.

Each philosopher is color-coded according to their school of thought, making it easy to visually grasp the trends of thought that permeate a specific era. In the case of some particularly important philosophers, such as Plato, Kant, Hegel, Marx, and Nietzsche, who cannot be left out when discussing the history of philosophy, their representative statements are included in speech bubbles to add visual interest.


This chronology, based on the content of 『A History of Western Philosophy』 (Yihaksa) by Gunnar Schirbeck and Nils Gillier, is a guide that will make it easier and more familiar to approach the history of Western philosophy, which can easily feel difficult and overwhelming, by organizing the ‘chronology of the history of Western philosophy’ in a clear and sensible way, which has not been attempted because it was considered nearly impossible to ‘see at a glance.’
