Publisher's Review
Takamatsu, a charming small city brimming with emotion
Takamatsu, a city still unfamiliar to Koreans.
It is a city that is well-known to travelers traveling around Japan or to people interested in art.
It is located in the northeastern part of Shikoku, about two hours from Osaka by Shinkansen, and is famous as the home of Sanuki udon, one of Japan's three major udon varieties, making it a popular destination for those in Japan who want to go on an "udon pilgrimage."
For those interested in art, Naoshima, home to Yayoi Kusama's "Yellow Pumpkin," may be more familiar than Takamatsu.
Although it has become more well-known to more people thanks to its recent broadcast, it is still a small city with many hidden charms.
Takamatsu is home to Sanuki udon, the representative udon of Japan, and there are countless cheap and delicious specialty restaurants in and around Takamatsu.
It boasts thick, chewy noodles and a wide variety of udon, so you can eat only udon all day without worrying about getting full.
Within the city is Ritsurin Garden, the largest of Japan's cultural heritage parks, a perfect place to spend some leisurely time in a tranquil space surrounded by lush greenery.
The cute two-car Kotoden tram running through the city evokes a nostalgic feeling, and the Takamatsu Central Shopping Street, Japan's longest shopping street, exudes a nostalgic atmosphere.
Kitahama Ari, a renovated old warehouse district, is a trendy place where the new and old are in harmony.
Near the city center, you can enjoy relaxing outdoor hot springs to relieve your day's fatigue, experience the pilgrimage route Ohenro, visit a refreshing mountain temple with a wonderful observatory, and venture a little further to Kotohira.
As a port city facing the Seto Inland Sea, the ships sailing across the clear blue sea right in front and the islands dotted around it are as beautiful as a painting.
Located in a very convenient location for island hopping, the Setouchi islands are creating new landscapes through international art festivals where the islands' nature and artworks are fused together.
In addition to Naoshima and Shodoshima, which are visited by relatively many tourists, there are also islands large and small, such as Teshima, Megijima, and Ogijima, scattered throughout the area. Each island has its own theme and story, making it a great pleasure to visit.
If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of Japan's bustling metropolises, head to Takamatsu, a small city where you can heal amidst abundant nature, appreciate art, and savor specialty food.
With “3 Days in Takamatsu,” you will fall in love with the various charms of Takamatsu.
Five Charms of "3 Days in Takamatsu"
1.
The best 3-day course suggestion considering time and route
We've compiled a three-day itinerary that includes carefully selected attractions, restaurants, and shops, all with the advice of locals and the perspectives of Japan travel experts, to ensure you can explore them with the utmost ease.
However, when traveling, there are times when things don't go as planned.
If you don't have enough time, you can skip some parts and enjoy it in your own style by combining only the parts you like.
2.
[Today's Route Map] to see your travel route and destinations at a glance
Before we begin the main text, we introduce a route map that shows the travel course for that day.
You can see at a glance how to move along the optimized route, and the locations of the spots introduced in the text as well as recommended transportation methods are provided in detail, which will be very helpful in planning your trip.
3.
Time zone-based organization for easy scheduling
The introduction to the travel destination is organized along with the timeline, so if you turn the pages in order from the first page, you can naturally figure out the day's schedule.
The representative travel destinations for each time zone are organized to be the most efficient, taking into account the length of stay and travel route, but sometimes travel destinations with similar concepts are also introduced to help travelers modify and select the course according to their preferences.
4.
Introducing attractions and restaurants that perfectly suit the tastes of Korean travelers.
Takamatsu is a city where you can enjoy a variety of travel styles, including Sanuki udon, Ritsurin Park, and various unique islands.
There are so many things to see and eat that it would be nice to see them all, but the time we have is limited.
So, after selecting and covering the most popular local spots, we went through the process of checking whether they were suitable for the tastes of Korean travelers.
5.
DAY PLUS enriches your trip
Although it wasn't included in the basic 3-day course, I've compiled a list of travel destinations that can be easily visited in one day in conjunction with Takamatsu in DAY PLUS.
We introduce day trip destinations that will enrich your trip, including Naoshima and Teshima, which were not included in the course due to copyright issues, as well as Yashima near Takamatsu, Mt. Goken, and Kotohira a little further away.
