Book Introduction
A collection of religious essays by British philosopher Bertrand Russell.
The book, which holds the title, is a compilation of lectures on religion given at the British Secular Society in 1927.
He makes a statement about a society rife with religious extremism, targeting religious teleology, such as the claim that all the world's great religions are not true but only harmful.

Into the book
This time, there is a story about a fig tree that always leaves people puzzled every time they hear it.

"Jesus, feeling anxious, saw a fig tree in the distance full of leaves, and he went to it to see if he could find anything to eat.
When he went to the fig tree, he saw that it had nothing on it but leaves, because it was not yet time for it to bear fruit.
Then Jesus answered and said to the tree, 'May no one eat fruit from you from now on forever.'
Peter said to Jesus, 'Lord, look at the fig tree you cursed; it has withered.'"

This is truly a strange story.
It's not the season for figs to ripen, so how dare you blame the tree?
I simply cannot see how Jesus could possibly be as high in wisdom or morality as any other person in history.
