Publisher's Review
Reading fluency textbooks to improve basic academic skills
Warmth - Read Along, Read Alone, Read Together

This book, written by current elementary school teachers, carefully selected reading materials about neighbors and fall to fit the 1st and 2nd grade curriculum.
We created a site that provides audio files of evidence-based, scientific reading fluency training so that our children can enjoy and study on their own at home.
www.basic123.net

The purpose of this book is to improve students' reading fluency.
Reading fluency means reading accurately, smoothly, and at an appropriate pace.
Until now, we have had a vague expectation that children would learn Korean when they entered elementary school and would be able to read naturally and fluently by the time they were in second grade.
However, there are more students than you might think who cannot read fluently.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NAEP), 35% of fourth graders are not fluent readers.
This means that teaching reading fluency to students is important.
The National Reading Panel states that reading fluency instruction is necessary through fifth grade, and that students who struggle with reading or have learning disabilities will benefit from continued reading fluency instruction.

When children read fluently, they develop a love for books.
Many studies have shown that reading fluency is highly correlated with reading comprehension.
Therefore, not being able to read fluently means having low reading comprehension.
As an elementary school teacher, you probably know that students who read fluently and use good expressions have a higher level of comprehension of the text.
On the other hand, students who are not fluent readers use a lot of cognitive resources to read, so they have more difficulty understanding the content after reading.
For this reason, children who have achieved reading fluency can focus more on the content and eventually come to enjoy reading.
In reading education, the importance of reading fluency is increasingly emphasized because it is a bridge or link connecting word reading and reading comprehension.

It is effective for students who struggle with reading.
An effective way to improve reading fluency is guided repeated oral reading.
This book uses the methods of 'model reading' and 'peer teaching' to effectively apply 'reading out loud repeatedly' in schools.
This started in one class in Jeju Island and was applied to several schools in Gangwon Province and Incheon, and the reading skills of most of the participating students significantly improved.
And it was effective for reading comprehension as well as reading fluency.
The improvement of students in the lower ranks was particularly noticeable.
At first, accuracy improved, but over time, speed, expressiveness, and comprehension improved.

Easy to use in the classroom and at home.
This textbook provides audio materials (guidance, demonstration reading) for easy and convenient use at school and home.
Therefore, it can also be used for online home learning.
We also provide problem-solving exercises to check your reading comprehension and practice writing difficult words.
Teachers who participated in the field study believed that consistent application at least three times a week was most important.
At first, they were not very impressed, but before they knew it, the students were reading more and more fluently. After a month or so, they showed noticeable improvement, and after two months, the students' overall reading ability had improved.

Recommendation
How wonderful it is to see a child mastering consonants and vowels and reciting each letter with precision! Now, it's time to give them the wings of "warmth" as they embark on the next chapter of their reading journey: "fluent reading."
Through "Warmth," I eagerly await the freedom of learning, surrounded by the world's beautiful writings.

- Kim Ki-woong, teacher at Daejeon Beopdong Elementary School

It was heartbreaking to see children unable to enjoy the joy of reading.
I wanted to help my child, who struggles with reading, become confident readers.
We are delighted to have found "Warmth" to help our children read fluently and understand the content.
I am excited to think that “warmth” will be passed on between teachers and children, between parents and children, and between friends.

- Kim Bok-sil, teacher at Jo Nam Elementary School

I am doing a reading activity called “Warmth” with the children in my class.
The greatest strength of this book is that it can be used consistently by both children and instructors.
Through 15 minutes of daily reading activities, children will become more fluent readers and develop interest and confidence in reading.

- Kim Yu-won, teacher at Incheon Seoheung Elementary School

The experience of reading aloud together is a new experience for both children and teachers.
The children's small voices are gradually gaining strength.
You will also be able to read text accurately and quickly.
In schools, there was a desperate need for a textbook that could systematically teach reading after learning Hangul.
"Warmth" will be a great help to children who have difficulty reading.

- Nosowon Gyeongui Elementary School teacher

"Warmth" will be an important stepping stone for children who are just learning to read, expanding their reading to words, sentences, and paragraphs.
This will be a great resource for children who read by pointing out each letter, children who have trouble reading new words, and children who have trouble reading naturally and cannot understand the content even when reading.
