Living Korean History Textbook 2
Description
Book Introduction
The best steady seller in Korean history, chosen by 600,000 readers.
Contains the latest history, from the Candlelight Revolution to the peace movement on the Korean Peninsula.
Current teachers have taken to writing a new alternative textbook that goes beyond boring history textbooks that are full of memorization and textbooks that summarize introductory texts and list dead knowledge.
The goal is to create a history class that goes beyond lectures and memorization, and instead offers vivid stories and moving experiences.
However, it does not conflict with or contradict existing textbooks approved by the government. It contains their achievements while also encompassing the historical maturity achieved by the history academia, history education, and our society to date.
This book can be said to be the National History Teachers Association's 'new alternative' for the changing times.
But this book is not the only alternative.
This is because the belief that 'the meaning of this book will come to life as it is newly organized according to the teacher's intentions and as each student learns in a colorful way' remains valid forever.

Publisher's Review
The first alternative Korean history textbook that changed history textbooks and classes.
The publication of the “Living Korean History Textbook” in 2002 was an event in itself.
At the time, the very attempt to create an 'alternative textbook' was surprising in the face of the reality that students had to read and study only 'nationally designated textbooks'.
Moreover, the collaborative efforts of history teachers across the country resulted in a novel and highly accomplished result.
For this reason, the book received a lot of attention and love as soon as it was published, and it has maintained its position as a bestseller as a model for youth history books to this day.
It is clear that this book has had a transformative impact on our education system.
As the concept of 'alternative textbooks' spread, various alternative textbooks were introduced in various subjects.
And the idea that different types of textbooks are needed for different types of students has spread further.
Since the publication of the actual 『Living Korean History Textbook』, the writing and editing direction attempted in this book has had a considerable influence on the development of textbooks used in schools.
The reason I gave this alternative textbook the adjective "living" was because it contained a sharp critical awareness of our reality, and I hoped that it would be vibrant not only in content but also in editing and format, and that it would constantly evolve and innovate through school classes and by readers.
We will continue to strive to keep pace with the times, so that we can become a history book that helps people encounter true history in their lives.
Cultivating the Power to Read History and the Taste of Experiencing It: Beyond the 20th Century and into a New Future
We help you experience history with over 1,000 photographs, maps, diagrams, and illustrations that support vivid historical stories.
With solid text and vivid images, it simultaneously satisfies both the 'power to read history' and the 'taste of experiencing history.'
The textbook, consisting of Volumes 1 and 2, was arranged in units considering the number of class hours at school, and each volume was designed to function as an independent book.
"Volume 2" covers modern and contemporary history in 11 chapters and 42 topics, starting with the efforts to build an independent modern nation against the incoming foreign powers, and covering the journey toward overcoming division and a unified nation.
We put as much effort into the special features as we did into the main text.
In 'Women and History,' we covered the lives of women who make up half of the world's population but are largely unknown, and 'The Lives and Dreams of Youth' was designed to help students conclude the unit by becoming more familiar with our history.
'History Scene' vividly highlights important moments in modern and contemporary history.
From the evenings of the 19th century to the mornings of the 21st century, let's take a step back in time by looking at the photographs and drawings that decorate the screen along with the text.
If you explore the past as a historian rather than a spectator, you will be able to experience the power of reading history and the joy of experiencing it.
The National History Teachers Association's "Living History Textbook" series has been newly revised.
It has been 17 years since the first publication of this book, and 7 years since the first comprehensively revised and expanded edition was released to commemorate the 10th anniversary of its publication, and now a new revised and expanded edition has been released.
Over the past seven years, our society has experienced truly dynamic times, and it is necessary to look back on each process within the larger context of Korean history.
There have been times when the issue of historical awareness to be included in textbooks and the format of textbooks have become hotly debated, such as the controversy over nationalizing history textbooks.
Many history teachers and historians have questioned the meaning of textbooks and discussed the path they should take, and the results have been something I would like to include a little more.
In particular, this revised and expanded edition not only reflects the latest research findings, but also significantly strengthens the history following the June Struggle of 1987.
The 30 years since the June Struggle have been summarized as a period in which the path toward democracy and peace was opened despite many difficulties.
We also provide a comprehensive overview of the most recent period, when progressives and conservatives competed, democracy spread through civic participation, and a new path to peace was opened.
I hope this book will be of some help in looking back on today within the historical context and designing a better future.
