Object relations and ego function in psychotherapy
Object relations and ego function in psychotherapy
Description
Book Introduction
In this book, the author introduces a new approach to object relations theory and therapy by incorporating the ideas of ego psychology and self-psychology into the existing object relations theory.
The author, who has been striving for communication and integration between modern psychoanalytic theories centered on object relations theory, criticizes the approach of existing modern psychoanalytic theories that emphasizes only one side, the subjective and personal aspect of object relations, which includes the experience of the self, or the objective aspect of ego function, and combines the two.

He introduces the concept of ego function from the perspective of object relations theory, pointing out that ego function has been overlooked in object relations theory and self psychology.
In addition, it emphasizes that the therapist should pay attention to the changing ego functions as well as the client's relationship patterns that are revealed during the treatment process, while highlighting that the experience of the self and the ego functions are not fixed but change from moment to moment.

Drawing on his extensive knowledge of modern psychoanalytic theory and his extensive clinical and educational experience, the author explains this new approach in detail through case studies.
