Unveiling Admiral Yi Sun-Sin and the Turtle Ship
Description
Book Introduction
K-History returns after half a century… The English version of "Unveiling Admiral Yi Sun-sin and the Turtle Ship: Historical Evidence and Scientific Verification" is published in Korea.
『Unveiling Admiral Yi Sun-sin and the Turtle Ship』 is a book that covers the core contents of Admiral Yi Sun-sin's naval battles, strategy and leadership, and the tactical operation of the turtle ship based on scientific verification.
Beyond simple biographical narratives or mythological approaches, the focus was on empirically restoring the reality of Yi Sun-sin and the turtle ship through an integrated analysis that included engineering, navigation, and geographic information interpretation.
The author personally explored the naval battle sites of Admiral Yi Sun-sin across the country for 13 years and, through historical materials and geographical scientific analysis, identified the true nature of Anpyeondo, the strategic stronghold where Admiral Yi Sun-sin stayed after the Battle of Myeongnyang.
In addition, through cross-examination and analysis of 『Nanjung Ilgi』, 『Seonjo Sillok』, and newly discovered reports by Inspector General Lee Won-ik, etc. from various angles, the error of the existing common theory (the theory of disobedience) that Admiral Yi Sun-sin refused to go to war right before the Imjin War was corrected, and by scientifically analyzing the effective range and operation method of the turtle ship gun barrel, the reason why the turtle ship was used as a close-range assault combat ship was revealed.
In particular, this book visualizes the battlefield based on Google Maps and reconstructs the naval battle in detail at each stage of the engagement, allowing readers to understand the battle unfolding in three dimensions through visual aids alone.
This is attracting attention as a new form of historical content that can be applied not only in educational settings but also in simulation and reproduction research of historical events.
This book was pre-released as an e-book on Amazon in early 2025, and was donated and shared by the author with over 300 maritime history researchers and professors at major universities in the English-speaking world in over 20 countries, creating an international sensation.
This domestic publication of the English paperback is an extension of that plan, designed to appeal to a wide range of readers, including international students, children from multicultural families, and young readers of the global generation.
Furthermore, the identification of the forgotten naval base of Yi Sun-sin based on the 'cross-direction method' applied in this book and the interpretation of the commander's trajectory using the 'geometric ballistic model' are the first domestic attempts to combine the expertise of a navigation engineer with historical research, presenting a unique research method that combines science and history, strategy and record interpretation.
This is evaluated as a representative case that empirically demonstrates the possibility of comprehensive research on Korean marine science and technology and history.
