The Suncheon National University Humanities Institute covers various historical and cultural heritages of the region where the university is located, and Christian history and culture are among them.
Christian missionary work in the Honam region was actively carried out centered around mission stations established in Jeonju, Gunsan, Mokpo, Gwangju, and Suncheon.
In cities where missions were established, Christianity developed significantly and had a significant impact on various aspects of the local community, including education, culture, politics, and medicine.
Therefore, the modern development of the Honam region and Christian missionary work are closely related.
Additionally, in 1937, during the Japanese colonial period, the school was closed by the Japanese for refusing to encourage Shinto shrine worship.
In this respect, the history of missions and churches in the Honam region holds an important position not only at the regional level but also in the history of the Korean church and the Korean national movement.

This book is largely divided into three parts.
Part 1 covers “Current Status and Tasks of Research in the Jeonnam Region,” Part 2 covers “Current Status and Tasks of Research in the Jeonbuk Region,” and Part 3 covers “Current Status and Tasks of Research in the Daejeon and Jeju Regions.”
