How did New York become New York?
Description
Book Introduction
The insightful stories about New York told in this book provide readers with a vivid experience, as if they were standing or walking down a street in New York City, regardless of whether they have ever been there.
These are spaces that are all too familiar to everyone, but the contrast between the old stories associated with them and the changes they have seen today brings a sense of newness and excitement, as if to say, "This is how New York became what it is today."
Although not a travel guide, this book has the power to satisfy readers' intellectual curiosity and enable a profound exploration of New York City, drawing on historical knowledge and a liberal arts background.
If you are a reader who is always interested in New York and wants to discover more hidden stories, or if you don't know much about New York and want to learn more about it, or if you want to give a story about New York to someone close to you, or if you are curious about the background and evolution of New York to where it is today, you will probably quickly fall in love with the VR-like vividness and excitement that this book delivers.

Into the book
I tried to convey as much information and experiences as possible by mixing the unique aspects of New York that I saw and experienced while living there with the 'facts' as they are and my personal feelings, so that any reader interested in New York could find them interesting.
Whenever I had time, I would go to bookstores all over Manhattan, and by chance, I would browse through old books and records to find behind-the-scenes stories. This experience was very helpful in writing this book.

Regardless of whether or not they have personally visited New York, if the readers of this book can find something new and interesting, I believe that each and every one of them can remain as a precious fragment that enriches someone's life.
Also, these are places that are so familiar to everyone, but if you can discover something new and interesting by coming across the old stories and the changes in today's appearance, thinking, "This place used to be like this, but it's like this now," or "This is how New York became what it is today," then I think it would be very rewarding to write about them.
