My first wine study
Description
Book Introduction
Wine expert with over 2,000 lectures over 22 years
Shin Gyu-young's Wine Academy
The author, nicknamed 'Dowasa', meaning 'a person who guides you into the world of wine' like a pilot guiding a ship through a waterway, has given over 2,000 wine lectures over 22 years.
While giving numerous wine lectures, I realized that many people find wine more difficult than they thought, and I decided to explain wine in an easy-to-understand way.
So, I wrote this book to introduce the know-how to spend happy times with good people along with wine, and to help many people become familiar with wine.
The author was also a wine novice at first, knowing only two things about wine: bitter and sweet.
However, as I pursued a career in wine-related fields, completed a sommelier course, and began giving lectures, I fell in love with wine.
Red wine is good for your health as it has antioxidant properties that eliminate free radicals that are created when you are stressed, and it is also good for your cardiovascular system.
Additionally, regularly meeting people over wine can help build trust with each other.
Wine can be enjoyed more when you give it as a gift or drink it knowing its story.
Let's take the time to become familiar with wine and learn more about it through this book.

Into the book
There are two major differences between white wine and red wine.
The first is the grape variety: white wine is made from green grapes, and red wine is made from black grapes.
The second method of making wine is to make white wine by removing the grape skin and seeds, and to make red wine by making it with the grape skin and seeds.
Rosé wine is made by soaking the grapes like red wine, but the skins and seeds are removed during the fermentation, which gives it its pink color.
--- p.13
Aroma scent
It refers to the unique aroma formed from grape varieties and the vegetable floral aroma created during the fermentation process, and refers to the aroma you smell just before pouring the wine into a glass and swirling it.
bouquet scent
It refers to the complex aroma of wine that is created during the wine aging process, and refers to the aroma that is smelled after swirling the wine glass and exposing it to air.
--- p.29
Sommelier is a French word, and in English it is 'wine waiter'.
During the Renaissance, this title was used for the servants of kings and nobles, and the word sommelier is derived from the beast of burden called 'vete de somme', which prepared and transported food and wine while traveling.
They did not simply prepare the food, but also inspected its condition and tasted it to check for poison before the owner consumed it.
If there was poison, the sommelier would have known first.
From here, it developed into a profession dedicated to wine service.
--- p.50
1.
When receiving wine, do not lift the wine glass, but leave it on the table.
If you lift the wine glass and receive it, it is uncomfortable for the person pouring it.
Wine has a culture of manners that are considerate of others.
When you receive a wine glass, gently place your finger on the end of the stem, and the person serving you will be impressed.
Because it means respecting others, such people will be treated with great respect wherever they go.
