Keep reincarnating until you learn everything you need to know.

A book that records the various reincarnation cases and messages that renowned American psychiatrist Brian Weiss confirmed while treating his patient Catherine.
Through months of hypnosis, the author heard from the patient no fewer than 86 memories of past lives and messages from spiritual beings from other dimensions.
The author, who had been going through countless data and meetings to verify scientific evidence, came to deeply accept the fact that people have had past lives and that through repeated reincarnations, they have the opportunity to advance to a better existence.
The patient's anxiety and fear were cured, and the book shocked the American psychiatric community immediately after its publication, becoming the catalyst for the widespread popularity of 'past life therapy.'
A million-selling book that has been translated into over 40 major languages in 30 countries around the world over the past 30 years and remains the #1 bestseller in its category on Amazon.

Into the book
Where on earth did these memories come from? Faced with the unfamiliar subject of reincarnation and memories of past lives—something I knew nothing about—I found myself gaining courage.
“It can’t be.” My mind, trained by science, protested.
But things were happening right before our eyes.
I could not explain the phenomenon, but I could not deny its reality either.
--- p.37

“Trees are falling in the strong current.
There is nowhere to run.
cold.
The water is cold.
I have to save the child, but I can't... I just have to hold him tight.
The water is rising.
I can't breathe.
I can't breathe.
The water is salty… I can’t swallow it.
“The child fell out of my arms.”
Catherine was breathing heavily.
Then suddenly my body went limp and my breathing returned to normal.
“I see clouds… there is a child next to me.
You can also see the villagers.
“I have an older brother too.”
Catherine was resting.
Life is over.
Catherine was still in a deep trance.
I was thrilled.
Past life? Reincarnation? My clinical experience tells me Catherine isn't faking these fantasies.
The thought, the expression, the detailed description of the situation, everything was different from Catherine's usual state of consciousness.
Everything I knew about psychiatry was flowing through my head.
However, Catherine's psychiatric condition or personality structure could not explain the current situation.
Schizophrenia? No.
Catherine never showed any signs of cognitive or thought impairment.
Catherine had never experienced auditory or visual hallucinations while awake, nor had she ever exhibited any similar schizophrenic symptoms.
I have never been delusional, nor have I ever lost touch with reality.
It was neither a polymorphic personality nor a split personality.
There was only one Catherine, and Catherine's everyday consciousness was fully aware of that fact.
--- p.37

In a 'normal' therapeutic process, nothing ever happened that would take me out of my obsessive psychoanalysis, but this treatment process was hardly 'normal.'
Moreover, I was skeptical about life after death, reincarnation, out-of-body experiences, and related phenomena.
Finally, my logical mind concluded that it was all Catherine's fantasy.
I could never corroborate Catherine's story and fantastic experiences.
But on the other hand, a deeper and less emotional thought occurred to me, however faintly.
'Open your mind.' Doesn't true science begin with observation?
Catherine's 'memories' may not be fantasy or imagination.
There may be something else besides what our eyes see and what all our other senses feel.
Open your heart.
Gather more data.
--- p.39~40

The original Old and New Testaments clearly contained references to reincarnation.
In 325 AD, the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great and his mother removed any mention of reincarnation from the New Testament.
The second council, held in Constantinople in 553 AD, approved this measure and declared the concept of 'reincarnation' heretical.
It was clear that church leaders of the time judged that this concept might weaken the authority of the church by giving people multiple opportunities for salvation.
But before that, there were clearly original biblical texts that contained references to reincarnation.
Early church leaders recognized the concept of reincarnation.
--- p.44

I went around medical libraries, frantically searching for papers on reincarnation.
First, I devoured the extensive writings of Dr. Ian Stevenson, a renowned psychiatrist at the University of Virginia.
Dr. Stevenson had collected over two thousand cases of children who had memories or experiences related to reincarnation.
Many children demonstrated the ability to speak a language they had never learned before.
His case studies were thorough, accurate, and truly excellent.
(Omitted) I thought I had learned enough about all aspects of the mind, but I began to feel that my education had been very limited.
Every library's shelves were stocked with research and related writings on this subject, but few people were aware of it.
Most of these studies were conducted and verified by reputable clinicians and scientists.
Could it be that they were all mistaken or deceived? I was still skeptical, but the evidence was overwhelmingly strong.
--- p.51~52

Catherine left her body again after dying and began to float, but this time she was not flustered or confused.
“I feel a bright light.
It's awesome.
“We get energy from this light.”
Catherine was resting between lives.
A few minutes passed in silence.
Suddenly Catherine started talking.
But it wasn't the slow whisper of before.
Catherine spoke without hesitation in a loud, raspy voice.
“Our mission is to learn how to become like God through knowledge.
What we know is little.
The doctor is here to be my teacher.
I have a lot to learn.
We approach God through knowledge, and only then can we rest.
Then we come back to teach and help others.” --- p.61~62

In my dark and quiet examination room, hidden, intimate facts were pouring down over my head like a tremendous waterfall.
I got goosebumps on my arms.
Catherine could not have known such facts.
You wouldn't have seen it anywhere.
Catherine's story was so specific and accurate: her father's Hebrew name, her son's death from a heart condition that affects only one in ten million, the fact that I had been struggling with my choice to become a doctor, her father's death, the story behind her daughter's name, and so on.
An ordinary laboratory worker had become a messenger of transcendent knowledge.
How on earth did they manage to uncover these facts? I felt compelled to find out more.
I asked, stammering.
“Who, who is it? Who is saying that to Catherine?”
Catherine whispered.
“Master, Masters, speak.
“I have lived eighty-six lives in the physical body.” --- p.76

My life will never be the same again.
A hand came down and irrevocably changed the course of my life.
All the books I had read, all the books I had read with so much care and constant skepticism, had become nothing more than scraps of paper.
Catherine's memories, the messages she conveyed, were all true.
My intuition had always been correct that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the events Catherine was experiencing, and that intuition was correct.
The facts were laid out before me.
The evidence was there.
--- p.78

I often look at my wife and children and ask myself if we could have lived together before.
Does this mean we've chosen to share the trials, sorrows, and joys of this life? Does this mean we're eternal beings? I felt a surge of love and compassion for my family.
The flaws and mistakes seemed minor.
That wasn't that important.
What really mattered was love.
I have become more tolerant of my own flaws for the same reason.
There was no need to strive for perfection, no need to constantly try to control yourself.
There was absolutely no need to force anything on others.
--- p.129

But could there be another way to explain Catherine's past life memories? Could they have been passed down through her genes? However, this hypothesis proved scientifically untenable.
Catherine's memory was preserved continuously.
Genetic explanations had to be discarded.
What about Carl Jung's concept of the "collective unconscious," a repository of all humanity's memories and experiences? According to Jung, the collective unconscious is not acquired individually, but is somehow "transmitted" within the brain structure.
However, Catherine's memories were too specific to be explained using Jungian concepts.
Catherine did not reveal any symbols, universal images, or motifs.
It describes in detail a specific person or a specific place.
Besides, how should we explain the 'intermediate state'?
In the end, everything had to be explained with the concept of 'reincarnation' to make sense.
Catherine's knowledge was not only detailed and specific, but also beyond Catherine's everyday abilities.
It wasn't the kind of knowledge you could glean from a book and then forget for a while.
--- p.155~156

If people realized that 'life has no end, we do not die, and we were not actually born', fear would melt away.
How much greater would be the confidence in life that people would feel if they knew that they have lived countless lives and will live countless more in the future.
What a comfort it would be for people if they knew that spirits were around them, helping them, both while they were in the physical body and in the spiritual state after death, and that they would be among that company of spirits, including the spirits of their loved ones.
--- p.184

We have a debt to pay.
If you can't pay that debt, you have to carry it into another life and pay it back.
By paying off debt, we evolve.
When you repay your debt in the physical realm, you will have fulfilled your life's purpose. If, due to unavoidable circumstances, you are unable to repay your debt, you must return to the plane of recollection and wait for someone to appear who will repay your debt.
Only when those two souls can return to the physical state at the same time can we return to the world.
It's up to you to decide when to return.
You also decide what you will do to pay off your debt.
When you return, you won't remember your past life... except for the one you just left.
Only higher-level souls, like the wise men, are permitted to remember history and past events to help us and teach us what to do… We can choose our own lives.
We are responsible for our own lives.
We choose our own lives.
--- p.263~264

My life has changed just as much as Catherine's.
I have become more objective and can better perceive the intimate aspects of my patients, colleagues, and friends.
I felt like I knew quite a bit about the person, even though I didn't need to.
My values and life goals have shifted to be more humanitarian and less materialistic.
--- p.318

A restaurant owner who was unable to cross bridges or tunnels due to fear recalled being buried alive in the ancient Near East.
A young physicist remembered a terrible incident he had experienced at sea when he was a Viking.
The director of a television station lived a difficult life in Florence about 600 years ago.
There were many other cases of patients as well.
These people also had memories of multiple past lives, and as the stories of their past lives unfolded, their symptoms disappeared.
Now they all firmly believe that they have lived before and will live again.
The fear of death is gone.
--- p.331

Not everyone needs to undergo hypnosis or see a shaman or medium.
Only people who have symptoms that are disabling or bothersome should do so.
For the rest of us, having an open mind is the most important task.
We must remember that life is more than meets the eye.
Life transcends our five senses.
You must always be receptive to new knowledge and experiences.
'Our mission is to learn how to become like God through knowledge.'

Publisher's Review
A record-breaking million-seller that sparked a worldwide phenomenon of reincarnation syndrome.
A psychiatrist armed with scientific thinking completely changed his life.
Amazing Past Life Memories, the Meaning of Reincarnation, and Messages from Spiritual Beings

Psychiatry Clinic, University of Miami Hospital, USA, 1980.
There was a patient there named Catherine who suffered from anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias that would not go away.
Numerous doctors tried to treat her, but there was no improvement, and Catherine was exhausted from the treatment and was falling into a state of mental paralysis.
At that time, Brian Weiss, who had taken an elite course and become the head of the psychiatry department at a young age, meets her.
After nearly two years of trying every treatment available to him without much success, Weiss finally tries hypnotherapy.

Memories of a past life from 1863 BC suddenly began to come to mind at the doctor's words, "Go back to the time when you first experienced the symptoms you are experiencing now."
Afterwards, a whopping 86 past life memories are revealed through the mouth of Catherine, a Catholic who did not even know the concept of a 'past life', shocking Weiss.
Amazingly, the patient's chronic symptoms completely disappeared as he remembered his past life and confirmed its meaning, and his life was completely transformed as he was able to convey high-level messages from the Masters, or "highly evolved spiritual beings."

The doctor, who was skeptical about reincarnation, past lives, and near-death experiences, is shocked and confused by what unfolds before his eyes.
Based on his rational and scientific way of thinking, he searched through numerous data and cases and sought a reasonable explanation through clinical experiments with Catherine. Through Catherine's inexplicable revelations of his personal secrets and their hidden meanings, he reached an undeniable conclusion.

This book is the first account of a doctor who, while skeptical of reincarnation and anything not proven by traditional scientific methods, actually experienced a past life and scientifically proved it.
It was the first case of bringing a field that had long been considered unscientific and parapsychological into the realm of science and study, and it provided the starting point for numerous subsequent studies on past life.

“We are all immortal.”
Messages from spiritual beings that transcend religion

What is the core of this book, and what inspired both the author and Catherine, is, above all, the message of the 'Masters'.
Weiss's past life research, which could have easily become a list of countless "past life stories" that are difficult to verify, gained depth and meaning through the teachings and stories of spiritual beings who intervened on various levels.

“We choose our own lives.
“We are responsible for our own lives.” (p. 264)

"We must accept what comes to us at the appointed time and not expect more than that.
But life has no end, so we never die.
We are not born.
It's just going through different phases of change.
There is no end.
Humans live in multiple dimensions.
Time is not as we see it.
“Time is in the teachings we have received.” (p. 166)

What is the purpose of this endless life? The 'Masters' say.

“Our mission is to learn how to become like God through knowledge.
We approach God through knowledge, and only then can we rest.
Then we come back to teach and help others.” (p. 61)

So how can we achieve this? The teachings on this are consistent with those of all great religions.

“To progress, we must share our knowledge with others.
Only in the physical state can we shake off the bad habits we have accumulated.
Masters cannot break bad habits for you.
If you stubbornly refuse to shake off your bad habits, you will carry them with you into another life." (p. 95)

“Everyone’s path is basically the same.
We all need to learn some attitudes while we are in the physical body.
Some people learn this attitude faster than others.
Compassion, hope, faith, love… we need to know all of these things, and we need to know them well.
It's not about one hope, one faith, one love.
Another thing to say is that there are countless other things growing within it.
There are many ways to represent them.
We know only a very small part of each of them…
Those who live in a religious order come closer than others because they have made these vows of charity and obedience.
They gave up a lot for nothing.
Others demand a price and justify their actions… the price, even though there is no price they desire… the price is already present in the act, in the act of not expecting anything… in the act of selflessness.” (pp. 124–125)

"Know that no one is particularly greater than you.
Feel it.
Help others.
We are all rowing the same boat.
“If we do not cooperate with each other, we will be as lonely as a blade of grass.” (p. 323)

“Continue reincarnating, learning love, understanding, and enlightenment.”
Rediscovering the Reason and Value of Rebirth

As the author experiences mysterious and unexpected events, he talks about the changes that occur within him.

I became gentler and more patient.
Everyone I met told me that I looked so gentle, and that I seemed much more relaxed and happy.
I was able to find more hope, more joy, more purpose, and more satisfaction in my life.
The fear of death disappeared.
I was no longer afraid of death or absence.
(Page 80)

I often look at my wife and children and ask myself if we could have lived together before.
Does this mean we've chosen to share the trials, sorrows, and joys of this life? Does this mean we're eternal beings? I felt a surge of love and compassion for my family.
The flaws and mistakes seemed minor.
That wasn't that important.
What really mattered was love.
For the same reason, I have become more tolerant of my own flaws.
There was no need to strive for perfection, no need to constantly try to control yourself.
There was absolutely no need to force anything on others.
(Page 129)

As I continue my past life therapy work with Catherine, the author has distilled the insights she has gained from this entire experience into a few words.

We are beings that transcend life and death, that transcend space and time.
We were gods, and gods were us.
(Page 266)

In concluding the book, the author defined his mission as "to connect the phenomenal world represented by the human body and physical desires with the immaterial world represented by the mind and soul, and to scientifically elucidate their unity." Having published four books to date, he has deepened the depth of his spiritual message.
He describes the changes that the events and lessons this book testifies to will bring about in readers, drawing on his own experience:

“What a comfort it would be for people if they knew that spirits were around them, helping them, both while they were in the body and after death, and that they would be among this company of spirits, including the spirits of their loved ones.
If people knew that 'guardian angels' really existed, how much peace they would feel.
How much anger and vengeance would subside if people learned that violence and injustice are never tolerated and that they will ultimately receive their just reward in another life.
Moreover, if it is true that 'we approach God through knowledge', what further use are material possessions or power?
“Desire or lust for power would be nothing more than a mere vanity.” (p. 184)

This is precisely the intention behind the author, who was doing quite well in the American medical community, writing this book after four years of deliberation, taking the professional risk of revealing an "unorthodox" story.
When we realize the true meaning and value of reincarnation, we can overcome the vague fear of death and live life to the fullest, fostering peace of mind and true love for those around us.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to see life from a new perspective, to anyone who seeks answers to why we were born into this world, to our purpose, and to anyone who seeks to free themselves from the fear of the unknown.
