A revolution in metabolism that eliminates the need for hospital visits
A revolution in metabolism that eliminates the need for hospital visits
Description
Book Introduction
Diseases are treated through metabolic diseases, nutrition, and detoxification.
A special health book with questions and answers from a counselor

Experience and clinical experience of a former researcher at the National Cancer Center

『The Metabolic Revolution: No More Hospital Visits』 defines cancer as a metabolic disease.
Cancer is not caused by genetics or family history, but by nutritional and detoxification problems that occur at the cellular level in the body.
Therefore, it is said that if you supply nutrients and excrete toxins well, you will not only not get cancer easily, but even if you do get cancer, you will be able to recover easily.
The author urges us to break free from various misunderstandings and prejudices about cancer, saying that cancer, a representative metabolic disease and chronic disease, is not a localized disease but a systemic disease, and that the mortality rate due to cancer recurrence and metastasis is as high as 90%, as evidence of this.

The author further assumes that the cause of all diseases, not just cancer, is faulty metabolism, and focuses on introducing disease prevention and recovery methods that can be applied to daily life, such as the principles of metabolism in our body and dietary therapy that promotes smooth metabolism.
The book begins with an explanation that breaks down common misconceptions about cancer (Chapter 1, 'Cancer is a metabolic disease'), and then logically explains the close relationship between our body and metabolism, in the order of diabetes (Chapter 2, 'Diabetes is not a disease'), intestines (Chapter 3, 'The intestines think for themselves'), and enzymes (Chapter 4, 'We cannot live without enzymes').

The book adopts a very unique approach for a health book, developing its arguments in a conversational manner through characters.
Jiwon, an elementary school teacher in her early 30s, is troubled by the number of cancer patients in her family, so she visits the Complete Detox Research Institute run by the author and talks with him.
Only the core content is processed in conversational form.
The book's composition is diverse, with a corner called 'Alseulgeonjab (Encyclopedia of Useful Health Trivia)'.
This corner features interesting articles on health and disease, such as "There is a gene that repairs DNA," "The autonomic nervous system and disease," "What is the longevity enzyme sirtuin?", "What diseases are caused by leaky gut syndrome?", and "Is it better to spit?"

Additionally, at the end of each chapter, a 'Key Summary' is provided, clearly organizing the lifestyle habits and 'To Do List' that can prevent each disease.
Thanks to this conversational format and the various plot elements, the book is not boring and is a rhythmic read.
The author's interest extends beyond the general characteristics of cancer to the history of cancer treatment and the evolution of anticancer drugs, so that after reading the book, one can see the big picture of humanity's efforts to overcome incurable diseases such as cancer.
This is also a passage that clearly shows his work as a researcher developing targeted anticancer drugs at the National Cancer Center.
The title, “No need to go to the hospital,” and the phrase “A healthy daily life without pain is happiness” in the center of the cover convey the core message of this book.

Into the book
If you have any illness, rather than believing that you are cured by taking symptom-relieving medication, I hope you will focus on restoring your body's healthy metabolism.
The human body and mind already have that ability.
It is designed to be less susceptible to disease.
--- p.10

However, surprisingly many people think that cancer is a family history.
As family members get cancer one by one, it is natural to feel anxious.
In fact, such a phenomenon does not occur due to genetics or family history, but rather because of shared eating and lifestyle habits.
Cancer is a metabolic disease caused by poor diet, lifestyle, and stress. It's not caused by DNA.
… Omitted … If we apply this definition (of metabolism) to the proposition that cancer is a metabolic disease, it means that ‘cancer is caused by the body not being able to properly expel toxic substances accumulated in the body, or in other words, by poor metabolism.’
--- pp.30-31

Born in Germany in 1881, Gerson suffered from migraines so much that he began researching dietary therapies to help him manage them.
He experimented with how different foods affected his migraine symptoms, finding that eating apples instead of salted sausages and bread reduced his migraines.
After various experiments, Gerson realized that food and the sodium in it were the problem, and he perfected the Gerson diet, which consisted of apples, vegetables, and a unique detoxification treatment called coffee enemas.
--- p.40

Genetic mutations found in cancer cells can range from thousands to millions, but not all of them directly cause cancer.
Rather, genetic mutations are likely a result of the cancer development process.
This is because the root cause of cancer may be factors such as environment, lifestyle, abnormal cell signaling, and increased toxins in the body before genetic mutations.
… (omitted)… Disease is a dysfunction of cells.
This fact cannot be overemphasized.
In particular, to cure cancer and chronic diseases, efforts must be made to restore the state of cells to health.
Even in your 70s or 80s, when cell function is restored, pain and other symptoms disappear.
--- p.44

These seemingly diverse diseases have one common cause.
Each disease is a result of an imbalance in metabolism.
When metabolism is imbalanced, liver function is impaired.
It gets worse after that.
Gerson, famous for his cell metabolism therapy, claimed that 98% of people who die from digestive cancer die not from the cancer but from liver dysfunction.
--- p.46

Cancer cells arise from lack of oxygen metabolism.
Professor Seyfried of Boston University, who has been in the spotlight for his cancer treatment through fasting, revealed the metabolism of cancer cells that breathe anaerobicly in his book, “Cancer is a Metabolic Disease.”
--- p.64

After this experiment, scientists began to focus on restoring mitochondrial function.
This is why research papers related to mitochondria are pouring out these days.
The increase in cancer patients is not simply due to increased life expectancy, but rather to damage to mitochondria caused by various toxins, nutritional imbalances, hormonal imbalances, and stress.
--- pp.76-77

'Mental illness' is by no means less important than the six causes of cancer cell growth mentioned above.
Rather, experienced medical professionals do not hesitate to cite peace of mind as the first factor in curing cancer.
I consider forgiveness, reconciliation, and peace to be the most fundamental way to heal cancer, replacing anger, conflict, and regret.
It's like the principle that the water upstream must be purified in order for the water downstream to become clear.
The impact of peace of mind on the health of the body is just as fundamental and important.
do.
--- p.85

There are also studies showing that a plant-based diet improves the health of breast cancer patients.
A research team from the University of Rochester Medical Center and Wilmot Cancer Institute analyzed 30 stage 4 breast cancer patients for eight weeks and compared the results after consuming a plant-based diet.
People on a plant-based diet lost an average of 6.6% of their body weight without exercise, and had lower cholesterol and insulin resistance.
They felt less tired and felt mentally better than those in the control group who did not eat a plant-based diet.
Their plant-based diet consisted of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, potatoes, nuts, and seeds.
--- p.91

“We all need to realize that most cancer research is largely a fraud.
“The major cancer research institutions have failed in their duty to their volunteers.” The above sentence is from Linus Carl Pauling, an American who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1954) and the Nobel Peace Prize (1962).
Pauling's sharp criticism of cancer research institutions for being more focused on profit than on developing cancer treatments.
--- p.106

“My grandmother is taking her diabetes medication regularly, but why isn’t it getting better?”
“Medicine is not a cure.
The goal is symptom relief.
When your blood sugar level is high, taking medicine will lower it.
The medication only lowers elevated blood sugar levels and has a temporary effect.
You have to keep taking the medication because it doesn't address the cause.
“The fundamental solution is to correct blood sugar metabolism and insulin metabolism.”
--- p.123

What's even more serious is that the link between diabetes and dementia continues to emerge.
50% of dementia patients have diabetes or pre-diabetes.
Blood vessel damage and inflammation caused by diabetes can lead to poor blood flow to the brain, preventing brain cells from receiving adequate oxygen and nutrients.
It can be a direct cause of vascular dementia.
--- p.143

“Typical Korean food is mostly cooked with fire, except for some dishes.
In order to digest food, the pancreas must secrete a lot of digestive enzymes.
If you eat something sweet, like ice cream or cookies, as a snack or dessert after a meal, your blood sugar level will rise more quickly.
In order to lower high blood sugar levels, the pancreas must secrete more insulin, so it is inevitable that the pancreas will be overworked.
“You could say that the diet that my grandmother has been eating all this time is a pancreatic overwork diet that makes her pancreas work hard.”
--- pp.146-147

“What exactly is a simple meal?”
“Simple eating literally means reducing the number of foods you eat at one time.
A Korean meal with 10 or 20 dishes would be a very 'complex meal', the opposite of a simple meal.
Buffets are more complicated.
--- p.151

“Why are we so afraid of and attack the fructose in fruit?”
“You could say it’s because of the difference in perspectives on fructose.
People who believe that fructose is bad for your health equate chemically processed liquid fructose with natural fruit fructose.
Interpretation tends to vary depending on one's perspective.
It's not just the fructose issue, but also the basic way we look at food.
My point is that there is a clear difference between natural products and factory-made products.”
--- p.160

To prevent chronic disease, it's important to fill your diet with healthy fats from nuts and seeds.
A 2015 experiment conducted by researchers at Maastricht University in the Netherlands on 120,000 adults found that consuming just 10 grams of nuts per day reduced the mortality rate from cancer and cardiovascular disease.
--- p.167

If you have diabetes, you need to make sure you get enough micronutrients, especially.
When looking at the blood health of diabetic patients, they show a severe mineral imbalance.
Deficiencies in minerals such as chromium, zinc, manganese, potassium, magnesium, and selenium can make diabetes worse.
--- p.169

In particular, the gut-brain axis is receiving more attention due to its link to neurodegenerative brain diseases such as dementia, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's.
Most Parkinson's patients have poor gut health and an imbalance of gut microbes.
The recent increase in the number of young dementia patients can be attributed to various factors that affect brain health due to deteriorating intestinal conditions.
--- p.196

A state in which the balance of intestinal microorganisms is disrupted is called dysbiosis.
When this condition occurs, leaky gut syndrome becomes more severe and bacterial toxins flow into the bloodstream, causing various diseases.
Symptoms associated with dysbiosis are numerous and include abdominal pain, cramps, bloating, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, brain fog, emotional imbalances, acne, and bad breath.
--- p.215

Staying healthy isn't that difficult.
Even now, if you eat fruits, vegetables, seeds, and whole grains rich in natural microbes, you can greatly improve not only your digestive health but also your overall health.
--- p.222

The reason people age and become sick is because the enzymes that help life functions gradually decrease.
Chronic diseases, in particular, are a state in which metabolic problems have occurred over a long period of time, and disease and aging can be seen as meaning that the enzymes in our body are not functioning smoothly.
--- pp.248-249

“Enzyme deficiency has nothing to do with genes or family history.
It has to do with the food we eat every day.
In fact, it can be said that the modern diet contains almost no food enzymes.
What rice, bread, and cooked meat have in common is that they do not contain enzymes.
The same goes for processed foods like sausages, hamburgers, pizza, and soft drinks.
“In the process of cooking with fire, the original food, or more precisely, the living organism, has its enzymes destroyed.”
--- p.261

The human body is designed not to get sick.
A body that doesn't get sick is the default.
Even now, if you eat a diet rich in food enzymes, it can be of great help in escaping from chronic diseases and metabolic disorders.
--- p.262

If the condition of the organs that metabolize fat deteriorates and there is a lack of fat-decomposing enzymes, the body becomes prone to gaining weight.
The bodies of obese patients are generally deficient in enzymes.
--- p.279

Overeating fruits and vegetables is much more difficult than overeating rice and meat.
However, do not forget that to absorb the enzymes in the fruit well, you should eat it before a meal, not after.
--- p.282

In conclusion, various immune diseases can be improved with an enzyme-rich diet.
If you have an autoimmune disease or cancer, or are concerned about developing one, it's a good idea to practice ways to provide your white blood cells with an adequate enzyme arsenal.
Eat foods rich in enzymes.
--- p.295

If a monkey, with the same anatomical structure as us, were fed a 10-course Korean meal, a hamburger, or chicken, what would happen to its health? Whenever I ask this question to my audience during lectures, they all give the same answer.
I think my health is going to get worse.
--- p.317

The first reason is that I feel regretful that if only we had known a little more about our body's metabolism, we wouldn't have had to go through such a difficult situation.
That regret was the biggest motivation for me to write this book.
--- p.323

Publisher's Review
Is the suffering of the family of Mr. Ji-won, who received support from 'Cancer Field', justified?
Everyday life where no one goes to the hospital for serious reasons
When to Accept Metabolism-Centric Treatment

Jiwon, an elementary school teacher in her early 30s, cautiously knocks on the door of the Complete Detoxification Research Institute.
Jiwon's father is undergoing treatment after undergoing surgery for colon cancer, his grandmother, who took care of him when he was young and to whom he is very close, has pancreatic cancer, and his youngest aunt, who is in her early 50s, has blood cancer.
Due to worry about his beloved family, who are at risk of cancer, and the uncertainty of not knowing when he will develop cancer himself, Jiwon's face is unsmiling, unlike that of a young man of his age.
The author first tries to make Jiwon understand that cancer is not caused by genetic factors or family history, but rather by lifestyle habits.

“In epigenetics, factors such as the food we eat, the air we breathe, exercise, and stress are viewed as environments in which cancer genes are expressed.
“These environmental factors are believed to account for more than 90% of cancer occurrence.”

"The Ambassador Revolution: No More Hospital Visits" is based on the author's conversations with people like Jiwon who live with anxiety and fear due to misunderstandings and prejudices about chronic diseases like cancer.
So, this book is a message of reassurance and a secret to 'escaping illness' from the author to patients with chronic diseases and their families.
The author, a former researcher at the National Cancer Center, presents his own perspectives and solutions on cancer, including, "Toxins (in the body, not genes) are the cause of cancer," "Cancer is not a localized disease, but a systemic disease," "Cancer is not easily contracted," "This is how we grow cancer cells," and "Cancer cells cannot develop in a body like this."

In fact, the author's argument is not new or groundbreaking, but it is also true that it is not easily accepted in Korea.
The author develops his argument by introducing the opinions of many domestic and international medical professionals, medical scholars, and other experts, as well as the long history of cancer treatment in mankind.
Professor Thomas Seyfried, who teaches biology, genetics, and biochemistry at Boston University in the United States and is a representative foreign scholar cited by the author, received great attention from both the academic world and the general public in his book, “Cancer is a Metabolic Disease,” which clearly revealed that cancer is a metabolic disease through a molecular biological analysis.

In addition, it features Max Gerson, who cured incurable diseases in the 1930s with the 'Gerson Therapy', which can be summarized as juices made from organic vegetables and fruits and coffee enemas; Dr. Joel Pearlman, an American nutrition expert who developed the 'Nutritarian diet' targeting chronic diseases such as cancer through food; and Raymond Francis, a famous health book writer who emphasized the metabolism of cancer cells.
Among domestic medical professionals, there is Dr. Jeon Hong-jun.
In “Life Reset that Saves Me,” he says, “Cancer patients do not respond well to treatment with anticancer drugs, so we must move toward holistic medicine, or systems medicine, which treats the entire body and mind of the patient.”

In the author's view, the cause of all diseases, not just cancer, is faulty metabolism.
To be more specific, the cause of disease is insufficient nutrition and detoxification at the cellular level.
'Nutrition' refers to the smooth supply of oxygen in the blood along with various essential nutrients, and 'detoxification' is related to intestinal microorganisms, leaky gut syndrome, blood circulation, enzymes that synthesize vitamins and minerals, coffee enemas, etc.
As such, the book begins with Chapter 1, which explains cancer, then moves on to Chapter 2, which deals with diabetes, a representative metabolic disease, Chapter 3, which deals with the intestines, which perform both nutritional and detoxification functions, and Chapter 4, which deals with enzymes, which can be seen as the fuel that runs the chemical factory called the human body.

While the author provides a detailed, theoretical explanation of the functions of cancer, diabetes, the intestines, and enzymes, he also gives very specific advice, such as 'eating rice, bread, noodles, and rice cakes only once a day' as a 'lifestyle habit that prevents diabetes.'
It is full of lifestyle guidelines for disease prevention and treatment.
Additionally, it includes a 'Useful Health Trivia Dictionary' on medical health and medical-related knowledge, and a 'Key Summary' on necessary food and lifestyle habits for each chapter, allowing you to obtain diverse and practical knowledge and information.

The book begins with an attempt to alleviate Mr. Jiwon's anxiety, but then moves on to tackle bigger questions like, "When will humanity finally conquer cancer?", "Is modern medicine headed in the right direction to conquer cancer?", and "How long will countless people have to suffer and lose their lives from cancer?"
“Recent cancer research is focusing on precisely exploring mitochondrial dysfunction, gene expression regulation, and metabolic properties of cancer cells at the molecular level,” the authors say. “Humanity’s long journey in the fight against cancer is leading to a new paradigm that focuses on a metabolism-centered approach.”

The author also emphasizes that modern medicine is rooted in reductionist thinking (the way we try to understand complex elements into simpler components) and symptomatic treatment (treatment that alleviates or manages symptoms), and that it is time to embrace metabolism-centered treatment.
The author expressed his views on this grand narrative in the medical community in two 'Introductory Remarks'.
The title of the book, “No Need to Go to the Hospital,” reflects the author’s wish that everyone can enjoy the happiness of living their daily lives without having to go to the hospital for serious reasons.
The appendix includes an 'Ambassador's Diet', which includes a week's worth of breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner.
