If President Park Chung-hee laid the foundation for the development of the Republic of Korea, Mrs. Yuk Young-soo was President Park's greatest support.


Mrs. Yuk Young-soo rowed tirelessly across the arduous sea, carrying with her the hope of making South Korea, then one of the poorest countries in the world, a good place to live and a happy country.
He traveled extensively to meet the people, comforting them and inspiring them with courage, attending refugee camps, veterans' villages, senior citizen celebrations, and inviting children from remote islands.

Through the dedication and sacrifice of Mrs. Yuk, who gave her all for her people and country, we meet one of the world's greatest female leaders of the 20th century.

From her days as a girl with many dreams to her time in a swimsuit with her son, the candid scenes are shown without any editing.


Author's Note

When Mrs. Yuk Young-soo paid attention to a person or group that was struggling or lonely, she would look at them over and over again until they got better or stood up again.
It was not a flashy gesture or attention, but genuine love and care.


I read and reread the letters that poured in to Ms. Yuk to listen to the voice of the people.
I read letters during the 15 minutes I spent putting on makeup and the time I spent doing my hair, and the last thing I did before going to bed was read letters.
At a time when the concept of 'noblesse oblige' was still prevalent, Mrs. Yuk created a volunteer group called Yangjihoe for the wives of leading social figures and joined them in their efforts.
I tried to show Mrs. Yuk's appearance in a deeper and broader way.


While compiling this photo essay, I also unearthed several photographs and documents, one of which is a map of the interior of the Blue House in the 1970s, where President Park Chung-hee and First Lady Yuk worked and lived.
It was also revealed that the Jeongsu Vocational Training Institute established by Mrs. Yuk was inspired by a vocational school established within the West German company AEG during her visit there in 1964.

The children's center that Mrs. Yuk established in Namsan was inspired by her visit to the 1965 New York World's Fair.
Seeing the vision of the future presented by the world's best companies made me realize how important scientific creativity is for children.


Without being arrogant, she looked down on the lowly, and with constant self-reflection and self-restraint, she cherished the gravity of her position as First Lady.

Mrs. Yuk, who left us a great legacy, cannot help but be a blessing to us who live in the present.
