Meet me in my teacher's life
Meet me in my teacher's life
Description
Book Introduction
Are you holding up well?
How is your life, teacher?
Comfort from the author of books that have sold 300,000 copies!

Class is not about skills, it is about life.

I nurture myself in loneliness and create my own classes with an aesthetic eye for life.
A class reflection that helps me find myself lost at school and restore my artistic sensibility in everyday life.

The year 2023 was so difficult for teachers that it is hard to put into words.
So many sad things happening in many schools.
Although they tried their best as teachers, their inner selves were shattered by the torrent of malicious words.
What revived these teachers' spirits was neither a well-designed curriculum nor fancy teaching techniques.
No one helped to lift up the broken heart of the teacher.
In the end, the teacher had to stand up for himself.
But this task is not easy.
Already discouraged and drained of energy, telling me to get up on my own? Nothing could be more irresponsible than that.
So I shout again.
'In order to stand on my own two feet, I tell teachers that protecting my life comes first before educating me.'

It seems like there are many people around me, but in the end, I am the only one enduring the lonely life of a teacher.
When you feel so alone and lonely, I hope this book will be a small comfort to you as you go through the difficult daily life of a teacher.
I hope this book will be one that allows us to revisit ourselves in life and comfort one another when times are tough.

Publisher's Review
A teacher's life is always lonely.
It's so hard.
“Comfort offered to weary and lonely teachers by Taehyun Kim, author of ‘Teacher, Meet Me in Class,’ ‘A Teacher’s Perspective,’ and ‘The Truth of Painting.’”

“Teacher, you have had a hard time enduring as a teacher until now.
Perhaps tomorrow, the teacher will have a very ordinary class and meet students who are having a hard time with the class.
As you go through life in class, you will sometimes be hurt by rude students, absurd complaints from parents, and fellow teachers who do not understand your feelings.
So, even though we are shaken and our insides are falling apart, I hope you remember this.
Every moment I spend teaching, I feel truly valuable.
No matter what anyone says, I hope you remember that teachers are a comfort, a mentor, and a world to someone.
You may not be recognized by all students, but at least some students will remember you as a great teacher.
“I support the life of a teacher who lives each day without hesitation.”

Published in 2016, “Teachers, Meet Myself in Life” had a huge impact on teachers in South Korea.
Since its publication, it has been a bestseller in the field of education, and unusually for an education book, it has remained a long-term bestseller for over seven years, leading countless teachers to cultivate their inner self and reflect on their classes.
The author of this book, Mr. Taehyun Kim, has published a revised version after eight years.

I guess I'm getting older now.
I keep thinking about the past and imagining myself when I retire from teaching.
Looking back on my teaching career, many memories come to mind, such as teaching passionately with excellent students and working with fellow teachers to transform the school. However, for me, the most memorable moment is the time I painstakingly finished my book.
Looking back, it's amazing why I decided to write a book, even though I wasn't a talented writer.
However, during my teaching career, I only published four books related to teachers.
I ask myself a question.
Why did someone with no writing talent feel compelled to publish books every time? Perhaps it was the longing for a life as a teacher.
Clearly, our "teacher's life" is meaningful and valuable, but I wonder why so many people speak lightly of the existence of teachers. Perhaps it was because of this sadness that I wanted to tell our teachers not to be discouraged, and to boldly follow our own path, no matter what others say.

The author says that the reason is that teachers have lost themselves at some point.
In order to teach well, teachers always focus only on teaching-related matters such as teaching techniques and methods.
However, the author emphasizes to teachers that they must examine their lives, their rest, their time, and their emotions.
He says that we should look for songs, paintings, poems, landscapes, people, etc. that we like and confirm the question, 'Who am I?' among them.
He says that through such a process, we must try to find the creative power to do well in classes and school life in our daily lives.

A little comfort in the midst of a difficult daily life!

My ears are ringing.
There is talk here and there that we need to prepare for a new era.
As the era of artificial intelligence approaches, there are voices in many places urging us to develop unique abilities that cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence, saying that our society will undergo unprecedented changes.
The Ministry of Education is also announcing a new curriculum and using new terms like AI classes and digital textbooks, hoping that teachers will do something to adapt to the changing times.
But the essence was forgotten and only the technique remained.

This book looks back on the teacher's own life through five keywords: 'essence,' 'emotion,' 'belief,' 'creation,' and 'community.'
He says that instead of trying to do well in class, you should live your own life, and to do that, you need to know what kind of person you are.
It tells me to have my own time in my own space and think about my life.
To this end, the author introduces poems and paintings that have been helpful and comforting to him.
