'How long will I allow myself to die?'

The best psychological humanities for broken modern people
Psychological Healing: Learning from 43 Syndromes
"Why Are You Abandoning Your Dying Self?" 30 Days of Humanities for Me, Morning and Evening

The first three-part series of "Pacers Korea" by Go Yoon, following the popular bestseller "Why Are You Living for Others?"

People born in an era of endless competition and struggling to adapt to a rapidly changing world.
The number of people suffering from mental illness due to not being able to take care of themselves is increasing.
Their characteristic is that they live their lives without knowing what state they are in.
Depression, stress, and the resulting physical illness often result from ‘neglect.’
The various psychological syndromes that arise from this easily represent our brokenness.
To escape from depression and stress, you must check yourself.
If you have lived hard, you should know how to comfort yourself when you are tired and create space in your daily life through appropriate rest.
This book provides an in-depth discussion on the mindfulness we must practice in the future, based on 43 of the most common psychological syndromes experienced by modern people.
From the past to the present, psychological phenomena across the globe will allow us to reflect on ourselves, identify our flaws, and find a starting point for recovery. While popular syndromes like PTSD and burnout exist, phenomena like Adonis syndrome, the spiral of silence, and Asperger's syndrome can also serve as mirrors for reflecting on our daily lives, allowing us to read this book with diverse perspectives.
Above all, this book offers a new reading experience to modern people who find difficult philosophy and thick books burdensome. If you are feeling crushed by the harshness of life, I hope you will use this book to revive your dying self.

Into the book
Time is always short and there is always much to do.
Modern people are constantly trying to take care of their health while living busy lives.
But despite these efforts, why do so many people struggle with issues like chronic fatigue? It's not simply a physical problem; it's also a mental one.
Life is not simply a struggle for survival, but a process of pursuing meaning.
We are beings who give meaning to life and realize our selves through that meaning.
Therefore, in order to value health and improve the quality of life, not only external changes but also internal reflection are necessary.
Concepts like 'work-life balance,' 'well-being,' and 'well-dying' are not simply trends; they are important questions that make us reflect on the essence of life.
What kind of life are you living? Is that life just a shell? By asking yourself these questions and gaining a deeper understanding of life, you will avoid being consumed by fatigue.
From a humanistic perspective, true happiness and health come not from external conditions, but from inner reflection.
You and I are one author writing the narrative of life.
We should strive to make sure that the story is filled with sweet happiness, not fatigue and stress.
Please take care of your weary mind and take care of your life before it collapses.
--- From "Why doesn't fatigue go away no matter how much I rest?"

Happiness in life is not something that can be determined by anyone else.
Even if you do something that is truly for the good of someone, there is no guarantee that it will be truly needed by the other person.
Because the judgment I think is necessary will inevitably be forced by my beliefs.
In these days when even happiness is forced upon us, many people live lives swayed by the words of others and end up hitting the ground with regret.
It's too late to judge right from wrong, but we must know this one thing for sure.
Humans need healthy emotions and proper education.
Let's look around now.
If you are off course, you can correct your own path and save someone who is leading you on their journey.

--- From "Happiness is not a realm that can be determined by someone else"

“But isn’t it okay since hero syndrome started from the desire to help others?”
Of course, it may seem that way, but in reality it is not.
Hero Syndrome begins with a desire for recognition in the wrong way.
It is an excessive behavior to satisfy one's own desires.
Every human being has his or her own shortcomings and wants to solve these problems.
And we want to be recognized by our parents, friends, colleagues, lovers, and even people we don't even know.
I always describe the mind as a glass of water.
If you have a thirst that is not constantly being quenched, it is like pouring water into a glass with a broken bottom.
Because of that recognition, some people will find meaning in life, but for others it will be as dry as a desert.
We will continue to struggle to be recognized by others.
But if you constantly seek to receive value from others, you are no different from a broken glass.
The life I have lived is known only to me, not to anyone else.
So, only I can determine my own worth.
Let me praise myself, broaden my view of the world through reading, and recover my lost self-esteem through small accomplishments.
If you keep growing little by little in the right way, someone will already recognize you as a hero before you know it.

--- From "A Life You Can't Live Without Recognition"

We must apply the spiral of silence to real life and continue to reflect on minority opinions.
As Steve Jobs said in his Apple commercial, the people who truly change the world are the so-called crazy ones and the misfits.
They are the ones who can sacrifice their convictions for what they believe in to the point of shouting 'No, it doesn't' when everyone else is shouting 'Yes'.
Instead of always defining the majority opinion as 'right', I hope you will consider the way they think at least once.
At that moment, you can come to two conclusions.
First, the fact that more people than you might think simply believe the majority opinion without 'deep reflection'.
Second, the insight that if you think about the nature of opinions, you will discover facts you were previously unaware of.
The spiral of silence is inseparable from the contemplation of essence.
We must be able to challenge opinions that no one has ever questioned and think about why they are so and their essence.
Remember, there is no sentence more ignorant than 'That's just the way it is.'
By developing the habit of thinking about the essence, we will be able to have the vision to see the truth without being swayed by any dominant opinion.

--- From "Is the majority opinion really right?"

What allowed me to get better was that I worked to fix my flaws rather than simply reset the situation.
If you're avoiding everything because it's hard, I want to give you the magic word "becoming."
Actually, I don't believe there is a magic formula for success in life.
Because there is no solution as fast and powerful as one person changing their thoughts, changing their actions, changing their habits, changing their beliefs, and changing their life.
I absolutely cannot deny that the world I see changes depending on how I think about it based on my experiences.
If you have a strong desire to change your life, I hope you will focus that desire on making yourself a better person, not on your circumstances.
In the end, it's all up to you.
If you just focus on Becoming, becoming something better, everything will naturally reset.
For just one day, why don't we stop judging ourselves as just another person we've known, and instead see ourselves as someone capable of bringing about incredible change? There's no need to be ashamed.
Because you are already that kind of person.
It is important to grow and change little by little every day.
Small changes that accumulate over time eventually lead to big changes.
Every person I meet, every thing I do, every thought I have creates me.
So instead of negative thoughts or avoidance, lead your life with a positive and bold attitude.

--- From "If you could start from zero, would you start again?"

No matter how great the learning is, if you don't put it into practice, that knowledge becomes meaningless.
As the teachings of the Dhammapada say, it is not simply about accumulating knowledge that is important, but rather how to utilize and put it into practice.
The important thing to note here is that knowing everything is not essential (though it's a bit easier to think about this).
The important thing to remember is to know as much as you need and apply that knowledge properly.
Let us remember the concept of blissful ignorance and seek balance without being obsessed with the amount of knowledge.
Rather than obsessing over the quantity, let's consider why we were curious about it and how that knowledge can actually be applied in our lives.
Knowledge does not exist simply to be memorized and accumulated.
It is to be used in the right place, and only then can we say that true learning has been put into practice in life.
Do you know what you need to know? If you don't, don't be ashamed.
Each of us may have a different area, but if we have curiosity, we can live as if we are exploring the world until we die.
--- From "Is knowledge power? Is ignorance bliss?"

Publisher's Review
“We wander here and there in search of happiness,
“Happiness is within us.”
If you're neglecting me when I'm tired, you need this book right now!
"Why Are You Abandoning Your Dying Self?" 30 Days of Humanities for Me, Morning and Evening

“If I lose confidence in myself, the whole world becomes my enemy.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Are we truly living with self-care? Are we so busy sacrificing for others, so fixated on a superficial appearance, that we neglect our own dying selves? If we dream of a truly happy life, we must live a life of "choice," not one of "being dragged along."
It's difficult to realize this truth, but if we break free from perfectionism, we can create time for ourselves, heal our festering wounds, and regain our lost vitality.
The number of syndromes that modern people are experiencing is already countless.
This book curates 43 of the most popular psychological phenomena and poses questions that can help us reflect on our lives.

As you learn about various syndromes through the book "Why Are You Abandoning Yourself to Dying?", you will be able to examine yourself from a new perspective.
If you discover a phenomenon that matches your deficiency, you will immediately realize what you need right now.
It can also help prevent future mental illnesses and protect the precious people around you, so the journey that unfolds with this book will be a new step that will bring you renewed vitality.
All humans are imperfect, and true growth can only be experienced through acknowledging and accepting this. Therefore, I hope this book will soothe your weary mind and body and establish a new standard for life.

“The remaining time is now entirely yours.
From now on, you must embark on this journey of life alone.
Don't expect the road ahead to always be smooth.
Don't expect only good things to happen.
Life is not that simple.
Sometimes things will come to you that you cannot understand or explain.
But isn't that the very privilege of being human? Every emotion and experience you experience is never just a fleeting, meaningless experience.
It is a part of who you are, and all the pieces come together to form one complete picture.
“I hope you will discover your own meaning in this beautiful, yet complex and contradictory world.”
