Therefore, like Cyaxares, you must always be careful not to run out of what you need, and you must also make it a habit to try to obtain what you need.
And above all, remember this:
Never try to get supplies until you are running low.
When you have the most abundance, you must prepare for times of need.
That's the easiest way to do it.
Because when you don't seem to lack anything, you can get more from the person you ask.
Moreover, by doing this you will avoid criticism from the soldiers, and furthermore, they will follow you more because they will have what they want.

The rearguard of the Persian army would not allow the archers or spearmen to retreat, but instead drew their swords and aimed them, threatening to shoot and throw at the enemy without stopping.
And so a terrible massacre took place.
The sound of weapons clashing, arrows and spears flying, screams for help, cries for strength, and desperate cries for God were all mixed together to create a hellish atmosphere.

Publisher's Review
In the 6th century BC, Cyrus II, the prince of the small Persian kingdom in what is now Iran, received a request for military assistance from his maternal uncle Cyaxares, the king of Media, and led a small army on an expedition.
He trained his army strongly in Media and defeated the Assyrian army that invaded Media.
He does not stop here, but continues his expedition, conquering neighboring countries one by one.
He took advantage of this momentum and conquered Babylonia, the largest country in the vicinity at the time, to build the vast Persian Empire.

What kind of leadership did Cyrus the Great (Cyrus II) demonstrate during this process? How did he train his soldiers and build a formidable army? How did he secure the supplies to feed his vast army? How did he win over the armies of newly conquered nations? The answer to these questions is identical to the answer to the question: What is leadership?

Peter Drucker, a renowned management writer, praised Cyropaedia as the first and best book to systematically address leadership.
Machiavelli, author of The Prince, described Cyrus the Great as an ideal monarch.
Thomas Jefferson, who laid the foundation for the founding of the United States, was a devoted reader of this book.
This book was widely read even in the Roman era and the Middle Ages.
Beloved for over two thousand years, this book captures the essence of leadership and governance.
Anyone who thinks about what leadership is will find this book well worth the time invested in reading.
