Description
Book Introduction
A book that brought about a wave of anger in French society, calling for people to break free from indifference to others and society and become angry!
The voice of 93-year-old Stephan Hessel, a former resistance fighter and diplomat who fought against the Nazis!
This book is one that raises the topic of 'anger' among French youth.
The author argues that the spirit of resistance that formed the foundation of post-war French democracy is crumbling in just half a century.
He shouts, "Be angry!" at the current reality facing France.
In particular, we urge young people to resist social polarization, discrimination against foreign immigrants, and money power that threatens democracy.
Indifference is the worst attitude, and this is a fervent appeal to those whose human rights are being threatened to reach out and lend a helping hand.
In 2009, the author delivered an impromptu speech at the annual meeting of the Resistance Speech, in which he said, in a booming voice, that young people have a “duty to be angry.”
The editors of the publishing house Indigen (Sylvie Crossman and Jean-Pierre Baroux) who were present were deeply impressed and rushed to Hessel.
That was the moment this book was born.
The impact this book had on French society was enormous.
The French press published articles about the author and the book every day.
The phone lines of a small publishing house in the south of France were ablaze with requests for author interviews and lectures.
I was excited that an 'incident' comparable to Emile Zola's 'J'accuse' had occurred.

Into the book
The basic motivation of the resistance was anger.
We, veterans of the resistance movement and the driving force behind the struggle for "Free France," appeal to the younger generation.
Please revive and spread the legacy and ideals of the Resistance.
I tell you this:
“Now, take over the gun.
“Be angry!”
Those in charge of politics, economics, and the intellectual world, as well as all members of society, must not ignore their assigned duties, nor be swayed by the tyranny of the international financial market, which threatens the peace and democracy of our society.

Publisher's Review
The cry of a 93-year-old resistance fighter who shocked the world
Stephane Hessel's "Indignation" (INDIGNEZ VOUS!), which has sold over 2 million copies in just 7 months since its publication and is causing a "rage syndrome" in French society, has been published in Korea.
The author is a 93-year-old former resistance fighter and diplomat who fought against the Nazis during World War II.
The question he poses to French youth in this book is ‘anger.’
The author argues that the spirit of resistance that formed the foundation of post-war French democracy is crumbling in just half a century.

"Be Angry" is a 34-page booklet.
The text, which contains the author's writing, is only 13 pages long.
In particular, this Korean edition includes a relatively long interview for readers who want to know more about the author.
The ten-part interview contains Eshel's fascinating background, stories from before and after the book's publication, and the author's worldview and ethics that could not be fully expressed in the text.
In particular, his insightful view of the current democratic revolution taking place in the Islamic and Arab world is impressive.
The starting point of this book was the Glières Plateau, a holy place for the resistance against the Nazis.
