A completely revised edition!

The first science fiction novel collection, "I'll Give You My Voice," by novelist Jeong Se-rang, beloved for her unique imagination and lively wit, meets readers with a new cover.
This collection of short stories, which is being re-released as part of Changbi's 'Jeong Se-rang Collection' along with 'Meet Me on the Rooftop', 'Fifty People', and 'This Close', freely moves between utopia and dystopia, unfolding a world that seems to exist somewhere in a parallel universe, but that only Jeong Se-rang can portray.
To further enrich the thrilling narrative, we have refined the sentences and introduced it anew with the unified texture of 'Jeong Se-rang's World'.

Jeong Se-rang immediately draws readers in with her unique, captivating narrative, solid settings, and, above all, lovable characters.
The eight short stories in this book each seem to be set in a colorful, doomed future, but even within them, characters who courageously take a step forward stand out.
This is where Jeong Se-rang's science fiction novels, which simultaneously deliver a cool critique of human civilization and its infinite possibilities, still shine brightly.

This revised edition was produced as an eco-friendly edition using Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper, reflecting the author's commitment to raising his voice on environmental issues. It also presents readers with a new, more sensuous edition featuring the work of British photographer Seo Nandal.

Into the book
That day, my brother hugged me lightly, tucked my messy hair behind my ear, and said,

“It’s okay if you don’t come.
“I could go to that cold place and die just to see you one more time.”

I was sitting on the thigh side of my brother's machine that hadn't been replaced.
As I leaned my head against my brother's neck in that state, I became convinced that I could not give up this relationship for even a single day.
--- pp.36-37 from "1/11"

Hyejeong, I'll miss you.
I don't really like people, I only like about one person out of eleven, and Hyejeong is one of them.
I like Hyejeong.
I liked it.
The best time of the day was when we had lunch together.

So you can say it.
When you show the solar system part in the planetarium, include it when explaining Jupiter and its moons.
I have a friend who lives there, on one of the Galilean moons.

I hope we can meet again for lunch.
--- p.38 From “1/11”

I said to my friend while crying.
The world is ending.
Babies wouldn't get their shots, adults would die before they turned forty, art galleries and museums would be destroyed, and all the plans and measures we had made would be useless...

“First, take off those shoes.”

A friend who has always worked in despair said:
--- p.48 From "Reset"

“You’re going to help people who have been hit by disaster, so it means that civilization is running smoothly.”

Someone said and I agree with that opinion that the good parts before the reset were preserved.
--- p.88 From "Reset"

An angel chose me.

“Well, you’re just there to fill the void anyway.”

The words that followed the statement that the angel chose me had no meaning.
--- p.114 From "The Counterfeit Earth Revolution"

Every night I literally sleep under your wings.
Even in my dreams, I don't miss Earth.
Angels were angels even before they had wings.
I am convinced that the sense of security that angels give me is something that cannot be found anywhere else in the universe.
The employment contract was renewed in partnership form.
Not for me, but for the angel.
--- p.120 From "The Counterfeit Earth Revolution"

"But wasn't it like this before? Before that little pill? Tell me there were no terrible things.
“Even then, didn’t people forget all these atrocities?”
--- p.147 From "Little Baby Blue Pill"

As soon as he turned around, Yeonseon's face became hazy.
But the feeling that remained in my hand did not fade.
There was no sign of it ever fading away.
--- p.197 From "I'll Give You My Voice"

Every time he saw those two, Seunggyun realized that he could not smoothly return to the way things were in the past.
No matter how much time passed, it was impossible to return the camp to the state it was before the Yan'an invasion.
Because monsters grow fur and remember the line.
--- p.207 From "I'll Give You My Voice"

Seunghoon smiled without answering.
But that laughter was the best.
Seunghoon, no matter how you looked at him, wasn't a handsome man when he was just there, but when he smiled, he became handsome.
There are people who often make that kind of smile.
A huge smile that brightens the area within a 70 meter radius, as if the structure of the face has completely changed…
--- p.238 From "The Zombie Age of the Medalist"

Now that it was the end, even the one-room village in the bleak small town looked beautiful.
This is what my world was like.
I thought it wouldn't be anything to be sentimental, but my heart ached.
It was a perfect view.
Even if I survived another day, I resolved never to look out again, to preserve that scenery as it was.
People need some kind of completeness.
Just like athletes need medals.
--- p.247 From "The Zombie Age of the Medalist"

“It was the first time in my life that I felt cute.”

Jeongyoon tried to imitate Seunghoon's signature smile.
Seunghoon, whose flesh had disappeared and whose gums were exposed, also seemed to be smiling in some ways.

I'm glad my last summer was with you.

I'm glad you're the last target I shoot at.
--- pp.248-249 From "The Zombie Age of the Medalist"

Publisher's Review
Colorful destruction,
A bright hope sparkling within it

“Countless stories are ultimately attempts to recreate the light and darkness of our world” (the author’s new note) The author describes various forms of destruction throughout the collection of short stories, while also finding sparkling hope within them.
"Reset" is a story that begins one day when giant earthworms suddenly descend from space and devour the Earth.
From the first year of Reset, when the earthworms arrived on Earth, to the 74 years that have passed since then, various characters travel across a long timeline to build a completely new civilization on a collapsing land.

"7th Period," which seems to depict a parallel universe of "Reset," is a short novel containing a class on modern history in the 23rd century.
Through the eyes of future generations who are shocked by the brutality of the 21st century, which is facing mass extinction, it makes us reflect on the present while also dreaming of a better tomorrow.
As we read through these works, one clear question remains.
“Shouldn’t we now learn to love those who are not like us, rather than those who are like us?” (Author’s Note)

I don't like people originally,
I only like about one out of eleven people,
You are one of them

What captures readers' hearts in Jeong Se-rang's novels are undoubtedly the lovable characters.
No matter what shape the universe takes, the love the author portrays never fades.
"11 Minutes" is a letter sent by 'Yukyeong', who quit her job, to her close coworker 'Hyejeong', detailing the reasons why.
Yu-kyung, who travels to a faraway land to meet Gi-jun, whom she met in a club during her college days, becomes convinced that “she cannot give up this relationship for even a day” (page 37) as soon as she meets him again.
“I don’t really like people, but I only like about one out of eleven people, and Hye-jeong is one of them” (page 38), Yu-kyung’s affectionate words as she concludes the letter touches us.

Officially called 'Second Earth', but everyone calls it 'Fake Earth', I, the PR manager of the amusement park and the only Earthling, dream of escaping this crude theme park.
The 'Designer', the master of the planet, creates everything on the fake Earth, and the 'Angel' that 'I' love is one of those creations.
"The Counterfeit Earth Revolutionary" depicts the adventures of 'I' as I go to find a designer to save a sick angel.
Even on this suspicious fake Earth, I find myself rooting for the love of 'me', whose heart is filled with courage at the words, "An angel chose me" (page 114).

"Missing Finger and Jumping Girl's Great Adventure," which depicts the time travel of "Missing Finger," a man whose fingers disappear, and "Jumping Girl," who loves him, leaves a long-lasting impression despite its short length as it shows the heart of the man who takes on a dangerous adventure for the sake of the other person.

Affection that shines even in despair
To cross the collapsing universe and reach you

The title piece, "I'll Give You My Voice," begins with Seung-gyun, who awakens the inherent violence in humans with his voice, being isolated in a concentration camp.
Inside the camp, Seung-gyun meets 'monsters' with scientifically inexplicable abilities like his own, and spends comfortable and peaceful days while being granted freedom.
Until one day, a person named 'Yeonseon', whose face captivated everyone but whose features were difficult to describe, entered the camp.
Will Seung-gyun and the other inmates be willing to sacrifice their most precious treasure for Yeonseon? Will they be willing to sacrifice their voices, even at the risk of being turned into nothing?

"The Medalist's Zombie Era," which depicts the survival story of archer Jeong-yoon, trapped in an attic in a world where one-third of humanity has become zombies, is also exciting.
If he had lived in the heart of Seoul or in a newly built studio apartment, he might have been bitten by a zombie long ago, but poor Jeong-yoon survived thanks to living in an old attic with a thick iron door.
Jeong-yoon, who survived two seasons by sparingly eating canned tuna and shooting a zombie with an arrow every day, leaves one last arrow for the day when she can hit Seung-hoon, her lover whom she felt was “cute for the first time in her life” (page 248), but who is now a zombie with withered flesh and muscles.

"The Little Baby Blue Pill" tells the dry story of how a small blue pill, developed to treat Alzheimer's patients, is misused for human desire.
The description of the pill as “a pill that changed everything and at the same time changed nothing” (page 147) is chilling and yet quite meaningful.

In this way, the author depicts weighty topics such as human dignity, freedom, and survival in a lighthearted manner with his unique imagination, but after closing the book, I find myself paused for a moment, wondering questions that somehow deepen.

The world of "I'll Give You My Voice" doesn't stop at just frustration and despair.
The film skillfully reveals the bare face of civilization—humanity constantly producing waste, power that practices violence and oppression, and repeated wars and massacres—while also finding hope in the midst of it all, using science fiction imagination.
A warm voice of encouragement is heard, like the author's wish to "walk together in a bright direction" (newly written author's words).
It is the moment when the affection that has crossed the universe, which may or may not be collapsing, reaches us at just the right time.
