When I was an island
When I was an island
Description
Book Introduction
On a windy day, I felt alone.

The islands floating on the wavy sea somehow look lonely even though they are together.
To the lonely islands, the wind that blows frequently and the waves that constantly pound feel just rough.
Islands tired of loneliness beckon to the islands next to them.
If I could become close to him and hold his hand, maybe even the wind and waves would become something I could endure.
Some islands have wooden bridges, others have stone bridges, and they come closer to each other step by step.
However, building a bridge doesn't necessarily mean you can reach the other side.
Just because a bridge is built on this side, it doesn't mean that the other side will necessarily build a bridge as well.
Also, even if you put your legs together, they don't necessarily touch.
It was common for things to go in different directions.
The bridges broke easily because several bridges were built at once.
I tried to make it sturdy, but it took too long this time.
Some days the fog was so thick we had to stop and wait.
No matter how hard I tried, all I got back was complaints about how slow it was.
He also said that he didn't like the bridge he had worked so hard to build.
So the island became wounded and tired.
The tired island decided to be alone.
I decided not to build bridges anymore.
Then there will be no need to fight or get angry.
But the waves still rock me and the wind keeps asking if I'm okay.

Publisher's Review
Today, too, we are building a bridge.

We who live these days are lonely.
I thought we were all together, but in reality, I was alone.
With anxious hearts, we approach someone and build a bridge called 'relationship'.
But that's really difficult.
For various reasons, I failed to build a bridge over time, and even when I succeeded, I was bewildered by the relationship turning out differently than I had expected.
No matter how much I dug into the crowd, I was only left with a cold, loneliness.
I thought we were the same, but when I looked closely, I realized that he and I had very different colors.

But even so, we continue to form relationships and live together.
Strangely enough, that's really true.
Is it because we were born as social beings, dependent on and leaning on each other to survive? Is it because we're addicted to the overwhelming feeling of "togetherness"? Connected, we sometimes encounter completely different colors and personalities, bewildering and even hurting each other. But at the same time, we listen to each other's stories, understand them, and embrace the new universe connected to us.

Being different means that we are all unique and precious beings in the world.
And the bridge we build is our courage, the one that unites us, despite our differences. When we understand and respect each other's individuality, we will all receive support and assistance from each other, and each will blossom with our own unique fragrance.
The author imagines our children radiating a beautiful fragrance, and encourages us to continue to build bridges of 'relationship' with each other with courage today.
