Good choices are powerful!
Description
Book Introduction
Is it the parent's responsibility to make choices? Children need to learn to make choices, too.
A good choice to keep yourself and your friends safe and healthy.
“Teaching about good choices is
In the end, the result of one's own choice
“It means holding them accountable.” (Harvard education expert Jeannie Kim)
“If every child learned to make good choices,
Taking care of and protecting each other
“A ‘community umbrella’ is being created.” (Children’s book author Han Jin-ah)
There is a saying that the choices I make make me who I am.
We need to learn from a young age how to make wise and good choices that benefit ourselves and those around us.
If you think about what you're doing for tomorrow, not just now, and what's good for everyone, not just yourself, you'll naturally learn to take responsibility for the results.
Harvard education expert Dr. Jini Kim and children's book author share helpful tips for making good choices in everyday life.
The witty and humorous illustrations by Prix Incorruptible winner Amelie Gros help you intuitively understand the consequences of your choices.
"Good Choices Are Powerful!" is the seventh picture book in the "High Five Social-Emotional Learning Fairy Tales."

Into the book
Fun things right now vs.
Work for health
When you come back from going out or using the bathroom, do you wash your hands thoroughly with soap or just roughly with water?
After having fun running around, should I come back and have some fruit or chocolate for a snack?
Should I eat a variety of foods during meal times, or should I just pick and eat my favorite side dishes?
A good choice is to do something that is necessary for your health, even if it is not enjoyable or bothersome right now.
--- p.8
Would you be angry if your friend rejected you? vs.
Should I accept it?
What would you do if your friend told you, “No,” “No,” or “Don’t do that”?
Will you get angry and say, “I’m never playing with you again!”, will you get upset and say, “You don’t like me?”, or will you accept it and say, “Oh, that’s how you feel”?
Anyone can choose to reject rather than agree.
When a friend rejects you, the best option is to consider your friend's feelings and accept the rejection.
What does it feel like to accept rejection?
Immediately stop saying or doing things that your friend doesn't like.
And then he says this.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t know you’d hate it.
“I won’t do it again.”
--- p.16
Should I struggle alone vs.
Should I ask for help?
When I forgot what the teacher said,
When you don't know how to spell or solve math problems,
When something difficult or challenging happens,
When you are being bullied or teased by someone
What would you do?
Are you going to be embarrassed and shy and struggle alone, or are you going to be honest and ask for help?
There's no shame in saying you don't know or asking for help.
Rather, it is an act of self-respect and courage.
A good choice is not to struggle alone, but to honestly ask for help and willingly accept it.

Publisher's Review
Even though I am young, my choices are strong!
If we make good choices, we can look after and protect each other!
For a child to grow up healthy and safe, efforts are needed not only from the family but also from the entire community.
To do that, I need to teach my children from a young age how to make responsible choices that take into account those around them.
"Good Choices Are Powerful!" is a picture book that provides clear guidelines for what constitutes healthy and safe choices for all of us.
You can realize the consequences and impact of your choices as you learn to choose genuine pleasures that you cherish and love over fake pleasures that annoy your friends, ask for help when you need it, and choose discomfort over comfort for the sake of your environment.
The world's most affectionate and exciting cheer! "High Five Social-Emotional Learning Fairy Tale"
"Good Choices Are Powerful!" is the seventh picture book in the "High Five Social-Emotional Learning Fairy Tales."
The 'High Five Social Emotional' series is based on the Ministry of Education's social emotional education theory and was designed to help caregivers systematically develop and support their children's social emotional capabilities at home.
We selected seven core socio-emotional competencies, including understanding emotions, self-esteem, self-regulation, empathy, diversity, manners and etiquette, and good choices, and designed them so that these competencies are strengthened through a cycle.
