Trekking on four legs
Description
Book Introduction
A book filled with the beautiful nature of our country, perfect for traveling with your dog!
Korea's only trekking guide for dogs, "Trekking on Four Feet"

Many pet owners dream of going on a trekking trip into nature with their dogs.
However, it is not easy to track with a pet dog in Korea.
Most popular national parks and recreation forests prohibit dogs altogether, and other popular trails are always crowded, making it difficult to bring your dog along.
However, if you try to find a trail that is not crowded, the course is often too rough or the road is not well maintained, making it unsuitable for dogs.

This book is for those who want to create happy memories with their dogs in beautiful nature.
Based on the author's many years of experience with his golden retriever, Janggun, he compiled a book with 50 domestic trekking destinations perfect for dogs.
We introduce travel destinations for all four seasons, including great spots for viewing spring and fall flowers and autumn foliage, valleys recommended as summer retreats, and places where you can enjoy clean snow in winter.
In addition, it also offers themed travel destinations such as sea of clouds, car camping, and island travel destinations.

This book describes the experiences seen and felt during the trip from the general's perspective, allowing readers to plan their trip from the perspective of their dog.
Although it is an essay, it has a practical nature by adding location information, course guidance, and trekking tips.
The preparations needed to trek with a companion dog are also described throughout Chapter 1.
This can be said to be the only trekking guide for companion dogs in Korea.

Into the book
Six years have passed since the footsteps of General and I, who walked along the Jungnangcheon embankment, began on the Jeju Olle Trail and continued all over the country, and even to the Tour de Mont Blanc in Europe and the great nature of the Dolomites.
When I think back to the first time I walked the Jeju Olle Trail, I vividly remember the hardships I and Janggun went through on that journey without any preparation or plan.
At that time, I was not familiar with tracking and did not know what to prepare for tracking with a dog.
(When we first started out, it was difficult to find information about dog-friendly trekking in Korea.) I think anyone who dreams of trekking with their dog now is probably facing the same difficulties we faced six years ago.
So, I decided to write a guidebook to help you experience the joy of trekking with your furry friends.

--- From the author's note

I sat next to my sister who was modeling for a while and sitting on the castle wall.
One day, my older sister told me that the sunset she sees and the sunset I see are not the same.
The colors that humans can see are different from the colors that dogs can see.
But I like sunsets anyway.
I really like this moment where I'm sitting side by side with my butt pressed against my sister.

--- From "The Sunset We See Together at Jukjusanseong Fortress"

Located just 4 kilometers from the Military Demarcation Line, you can feel the tranquil breath of nature.
No cars, no lights, no noise, no pollution will disturb you.
My sister and I sat side by side on the hillside, our butts pressed against each other, and watched the setting sun.
I thought as I felt my sister's hand stroking the back of my head.
I'm so happy.
--- From "The Yeongang Ferry Road Welcomed by the Greeting Man"

But even if you don't necessarily want to cross Daegwallyeong, the Daegwallyeong Old Road is a great place to walk.
It is a great place for walking not only in the fall when the leaves are colored, but also in the summer when the valley flows and the deep green forest is lush.
It's also fun to walk on the snow in the winter when it's piled up.
Because there is a lot of snow in Daegwallyeong!
--- From "Let's enjoy nature leisurely on the Daegwallyeong Old Road"

Summer, when it's hot and exhausting even when you're still, seems like a very difficult season for animals with long hair like us.
Even the walks that used to be enjoyable every day have become a chore.
Evening walks are never easy, let alone sunny days.
The asphalt gets heated up during the day and radiates heat, making it too hot for us short people.
So today I'm going to introduce you to the Kalbongsan Forest Road, which is a perfect summer walking destination.
You can walk along the first-class Gyeongban Stream, so even friends who love water like me, or those who are afraid of water, can enjoy a cool walk.

--- From "Let's walk along the valley on the Kalbongsan Forest Road"

You don't know how much fun it is to go for a walk when it snows.
You can walk on the crisp snow, and if you get hot while running, you can roll around in the snow to cool down.
But in the city we live in, even when it snows, it quickly turns black and dirty.
I like eating snow, but my older sister won't let me eat it because it's bad for your health.
They even sprinkle calcium chloride on the snow to prevent it from freezing, so if we walk around barefoot, we might hurt our feet.
So, my older sister takes me to Gangwon-do in the winter.
There's a lot of clean snow there, so you can eat as much snow as you want.
You can go sledding and have snowball fights with your sister.

--- From "Anbandegi, a place where you can meet clean eyes"

On the way, I met a lot of men and women who were hiking, and they all went crazy saying that I was cute wearing the glasses and bag.
If you're a friend who often hears unpleasant things because you're big like me, I think it would be a good idea to equip yourself with a cute weapon.

--- From "Enjoying Snow Mountain Trekking with 200% Success at Taekisan"

Seonjaryeong has a different smell in each forest.
There are various trees such as pine, fir, birch, oak, and oak forming a grove, so the background is constantly changing, so you won't get bored even if you walk along the forest path for hours.

--- From "Seonjaryeong, the Hill of Wind"

Furry friends like us can't enter national parks with our families.
So, places like Bukhansan and Dobongsan are like pie in the sky to us.
But my sister always finds a way for me.
Today, thanks to my older sister, I went to a mountain where I could see the beautiful rock ridge of Bukhansan Mountain at a glance.

--- From "Nogosan Mountain, where you can see Bukhansan Mountain instead of Bukhansan Mountain"

You have to climb the steep, slippery slope, carefully walking on wooden steps buried in the snow.
The climb was too long to climb in one breath, so I decided to take my time and catch my breath.
Sitting next to a lone tree that adds to the charm of the mountain, I waited for a moment for my older sister, panting and struggling to climb the hill.

--- From "Mindungsan, a reed garden that is better in winter"

When I opened my eyes the next day, thankfully I was in very good condition.
I stretched and walked around, waiting for my sister to finish cleaning up.
When morning came, my sister seemed to have more peace of mind and her steps seemed lighter.
But if I leave it to my older sister like I did yesterday, I don't think I'll be able to get out of the valley by today.
I found the trail by following the scent of a group of hikers who had come up the night before.
As I climbed the steep road, my speed doubled.
--- From "If you're ready, try the Yeongnam Alps Ring Race"

Publisher's Review
From leisurely strolls through nature to authentic mountain climbing destinations offering the joy of reaching the summit!
A tracking story told from the perspective of a golden retriever, General.

This book consists of three chapters.
Chapter 1 covers everything you need to prepare for when trekking with your dog, pet etiquette to follow in the mountains, and how to respond in emergency situations.
For beginners who are just starting out with tracking, we will explain the basics in detail.
The full-fledged travel story is presented in two chapters: Chapter 2, ‘The Walking Path’ and Chapter 3, ‘The Climbing Path’.
The 'Walking Paths' chapter introduces trails that circle lakes or the sea, as well as mountain paths that do not aim to reach the summit.
The 'Road to the Top' chapter introduces places where you can experience a more proper mountaineering experience, such as reaching the summit and coming back down.
This book is designed to be convenient for readers who plan to go trekking with their dogs, and offers everything from leisurely nature walks to full-fledged mountaineering destinations with the joy of reaching the summit.

At the beginning of each section, the travel destination address and course information are summarized.
We've also added difficulty indicators and tracking tips to make it useful for planning your actual trip.
While there are multiple trekking courses to choose from in each location, the author recommends a relatively easy and convenient route among the courses he has taken.
Another unique feature of this book is that it describes the travel experience from the general's point of view.
You can read it comfortably and without burden, as if listening to a friend's story, and plan a trip tailored to your dog's eye level.
Moreover, this style of description, combined with photos of General Lee being happy in nature, makes readers think again about the meaning of traveling with a companion dog and the happiness and vitality that traveling gives to companion dogs.

Dreaming of a world where people and animals can enjoy the beauty of nature together

In her first book, "Europe, We're Glad We Came Together," published in January 2020, the author said that she decided to take on the challenge of traveling to Europe because she felt sorry that time with her beloved general was passing by too quickly.
It is said that he mustered up the courage to show the general a wider and freer world.
And they spend their time there freely and happily.
In Europe, it is considered normal to have dogs with you in every aspect of life, from public transportation to restaurants, and there are no problems with entering national parks.
The author said that the thing he regretted most after returning home from his trip was the lack of freedom in his daily life.
If traveling abroad with a pet is every pet owner's dream, then the daily routine is their reality.
You can't travel abroad 365 days a year, and even if you do travel abroad, there are more days you can't travel than days you can travel.
So perhaps what's important is to enrich the daily routine that is given to us.
This book was planned with the intention of enriching the daily lives of all pet owners with beautiful memories.
It contains many trails that are relatively easy to find in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gyeonggi-do, and Gangwon-do, so you can easily visit them on the weekend.
Although we live in an era where the pet population has reached 10 million, there are still people who feel uncomfortable around dogs.
The reasons may include allergies, fears, and pet owners' lack of awareness of pet etiquette.
This is why this book focuses heavily on pet etiquette for dogs and people to live together peacefully.
I hope this book will help all companions and dogs around the world create happy memories, and help people and animals enjoy the beauty of nature together.
