Description
Book Introduction
A blockbuster travel essay that even Descendants of the Sun writer Kim Eun-sook fell in love with!
The final installment of the world travel series, "Mom, Let's Go!"
《Mom, While I'm at it, let's go to South America!》 is finally published!

After endless requests and support from hundreds of thousands of readers and millions of bloggers, and a long wait, the final installment of the world travel story of a mother in her 60s and her son in his 30s, following “Mom, Let’s Go First!” and “Mom, It’s a Happy Ending After All!”, “Mom, While We’re at it, Let’s Go to South America!” has finally been published.
Author Taewonjun, whose two previous books became bestsellers, has emerged as one of the hottest writers in the travel industry, appearing on travel panels on TV and radio programs.
This book, too, retains the author's signature wit, honest humor, and deep emotion that have captivated readers so far, and is ready to captivate readers' hearts with an even more compelling and happy story than before.

If the Asian version, "Mom, Let's Go First!", captures the excitement of a mother and son at the beginning of their trip, the European version, "Mom, It's a Happy Ending After All!", contains the delightful story of a mother and son traveling among people.
And this book, which has been a hot topic even before its publication, is filled with the heart-wrenching story of a mother and daughter who beautifully completed a 500-day journey in the magnificent nature of Central and South America, which is overwhelming just to look at.
Kim Eun-sook, the drama writer (Descendants of the Sun, Secret Garden, etc.), who read this book, said, “This book shows from the first page to the last page with cheerful lines and sentences that there is absolutely no way to regret sharing time with your parents.” She also confessed, “I knew that I had such a wonderful mother, that I had many opportunities to become such a wonderful daughter, but I pretended not to know.”

Into the book
Mom was dreaming of a new trip.
Even after my 300-day trip, I continued to travel whenever I had the chance.
Whether it was work or personal travel, I was constantly moving around and living as a traveler.
So much so that I'm not used to staying there.
But what about Mom? The mom who enjoyed traveling so much? The mom who would pack her backpack and say she'd get bored if she stayed in one place for more than three days? … How much did Mom, like me, yearn to go out into the world again? As I thought about this, self-reproach followed.
"No, why didn't I think you'd want to travel too? Why did I just believe you when you said, 'You've already traveled around without any worries, so you don't need to travel anymore'?" _Page 40, Mom, while you're at it, let's go to South America!

I think about that sometimes.
How happy my mother would be if she saw me going out to see the world like this.
A mother who always patted her back and prepared meals for her working daughter even late at night, feeling sorry for her.
Whenever I start a trip like this, I miss my mom even more.

This trip is also a 100% budget backpacking trip! Therefore, the Budget Review Committee, Emergency Response Committee, and emergency meetings will be in constant operation, and terms like "luxury cruise" and "five-star hotel" will be taboo.
I put aside any regrets about making my mother, who is over 60 years old, suffer, as this was a choice that actively reflected my mother's famous saying that is likely to be passed around in the backpacking world: "I would rather go on a ten-day trip for 50,000 won than a five-day trip for 100,000 won."

“Do people really live here? Why can’t I see anyone?”
Mom whispers in an anxious voice.
There really isn't a single person in sight on the streets.
All that is visible is the road that looks like an uninhabited island, reflected in the taxi headlights.
After walking like that for about 5 minutes, the faintly twinkling city center comes into view in the distance.
Just as I was about to breathe a sigh of relief that I was alive, the driver suddenly turned the car to the opposite side of the city center after talking to someone on the phone.
In an instant, all the hair on my body stands on end.
“Mom, take out the MacGyver knife.
It's in the side pocket of your auxiliary backpack.
Just hold on for now, and if something bad happens, don't resist, just put your bag down and get off.
Got it?” _Page 165, Is it worth risking your life?

But as time went on, I began to understand more and more of those strange journeys.
The father wanted to spend time with his son.
Even though it wasn't something you particularly enjoyed or were good at, your father wanted to travel with you and make more memories with you, a son who would unconditionally follow your every word.
If you think about it, this person, who is not good at hiking, fishing, or even finding lodging, always smiled when he left home with his son.
Even now, I miss that little smile, that warm smile that I wouldn't have seen if I had looked away for a moment.
_Page 262, A name that suddenly came to mind

January 1, 2015, 00:00.
I started my trip in midsummer and before I knew it, the year had changed.
This is the small town of Aguas Calientes, located right in front of the Machu Picchu ruins.
It is a forward base that must be visited via Cusco to climb Machu Picchu.
I prepared Machu Picchu as a New Year's gift for my mom.
My son planned a world trip for his mother's 60th birthday, so shouldn't he give her Machu Picchu as a New Year's gift? Hahaha.
Pages 281-282, Your Dream Spot, Machu Picchu

While my mom traveled the world, I traveled with her.
Traveling through landscapes and traveling through time were both incredibly blissful, but traveling with my mom was the best trip for me.
I explored my mother's life, which I would have never known if I hadn't traveled with her.
I looked into my mother's childhood as I listened to her old stories, and we admired and reminisced about the most brilliant moments in her life.
Sometimes, spending time with my mom was more fun and exciting than traveling.
I liked seeing my mother's smiling face more than seeing a beautiful scenery, and I liked hearing her applause more than hearing the beautiful sounds of nature.
So, I slowly traveled to the mother I didn't know about.
That fact alone made the trip meaningful enough for me.

Publisher's Review

The captain of this journey is my mother,
Her activities make our Central and South American travelogue even more enjoyable!

At first it was just one month.
Since it was a trip with my mother, who was in her sixties, I had absolutely no intention of overdoing it.
But, contrary to everyone's expectations, Mom completed her 300-day Eurasian journey from Qingdao, China to London, England without any problems.
And two years passed.
One day, my son, who had been so busy with his daily life that he couldn't focus, suddenly looked to the side and saw his mother dreaming of another trip.
So I started again.
“Mom, while we’re at it, let’s go to South America!”
Mom, who was reborn as a backpacking veteran through her Eurasian journey, was upgraded to captain on this trip.

When my son was wondering whether to go to Oaxaca or Guanajuato, I chose Oaxaca to ease his worries, and I showed a more proactive side than before by deciding what to eat, where to sleep, and even where to go.
The son looks at his mother and says, “I feel a sense of timelessness in this surprising and delightful situation.”
That's understandable, because when my mother started her Eurasian journey, she was like a child coming into the world for the first time.
Although they still weigh a combined 100 kilograms, and each of them has been forced to accumulate weight by two years, their journey is more energetic and full of laughter than any other journey, or anyone else's.

500 days, 70 countries, 200 cities!
Ending that hot and splendid journey with Mom!

The journey began in a Mexico City subway station without any proper lighting.
Even veteran travelers like Moza were drowsy from the scary rumors about Central and South America.
But with the help of angels on the road, the journey begins safely, and as the hat begins to move wherever its feet lead, unimaginable events unfold before it!

A mother who still suffers from aquaphobia experiences a miraculous experience of snorkeling with sharks, a bus driver who is more impressive than any stuntman is mesmerized by his stunts in a cramped local bus that is either a chicken bus or a chicken coop bus, and an unprecedented incident occurs in a Honduran taxi where a MacGyver knife is pulled out.
You can also have a dreamlike time swimming with seals, iguanas, and sea turtles in the Galapagos Islands, and fully enjoy the magnificent nature of the seemingly out-of-this-world Uyuni Salt Flats and Iguazu Falls.

A total of 500 days, 70 countries, and 200 cities.
The distance traveled was approximately 100,000 kilometers, and the travel time was 1,270 hours.
During this time, the son confesses that he traveled the world as well as his 'mother'.

“I explored my mother’s life in ways I would have never known if I hadn’t traveled with her.
I looked into my mother's childhood as I listened to her old stories, and we admired and reminisced about the most brilliant moments in her life.
So, I slowly traveled to the mother I didn't know about.
“That fact alone made the trip meaningful enough for me.”
So the son finally tells the story.
You too can travel with this hot and brilliant mom.
You too can enjoy an incredibly happy trip.

With amazingly detailed descriptions and beautiful photos
Showing you the Central and South American continent beyond your imagination!

《Mom, While We're at it, Let's Go to South America!》 is not only filled with the exciting travel story of a mother and son, but also with scenes that will surprise even those who have traveled a lot.
The view of Machu Picchu, shrouded in fog and barely visible, and the spectacular view of the Uyuni Salt Flats during the rainy season, which can only be seen for a few days a year, are beautiful and surprising in themselves, even without any explanation from the author.
In addition, you can experience jaw-dropping panoramic views of beautiful scenes, including the vast and magnificent primeval forests of Costa Rica that will make you realize just how small humans are, and Argentina where you can encounter glaciers once thought to exist only in Antarctica and tens of thousands of penguins.
If you want to experience the charm of Central and South America and read an interesting, fun, and touching travel story, then "Mom, While I'm at it, let's go to South America!" is the answer!
