If I could just study for one day
Description
Book Introduction
“That’s the book that teachers across the country give to their students every semester!”
Attorney Park Cheol-beom, the study mentor chosen by 1 million teenagers
The moving story of studying that took me from last place to first place in just six months.
“Have you ever studied desperately?”
A student who only knows how to study cannot overcome his limitations.
There must be a ‘reason’ for studying.
A student who had a difficult family situation where his family was scattered and was at the bottom of his class with a score of 25 in math, discovered his own desperate reason for studying and miraculously went from last to first in just six months.
"If I Could Only Study for One Day" is a heartwarming study diary told by the author, who, despite difficult circumstances and low grades, devoted herself to studying and eventually was accepted to Seoul National University, finding her true dream.
First published in 2009, this book by attorney Park Cheol-beom received enthusiastic support from one million young people, as he candidly confessed his passionate passion for studying, his serious attitude, the specific process of acquiring study methods, and his serious concerns about his future career.
Since then, it has been loved by many for over 10 years, and has become a book that tens of thousands of teachers across the country purchase with their own money and give to their students every semester.
If the first edition covered the story of how he went from a difficult childhood to his never-ending spirit of challenge, getting into Seoul National University's College of Engineering, and then finding his dream again and going to Korea University's School of Law, the revised edition, released 12 years later, has added a new story of how he went from entering law school to passing the bar exam and ultimately achieving his dream.
The moment you open the book, the author's teenage years, when he studied intensely every minute and every second, unfold vividly before your eyes, offering heartfelt encouragement and overwhelming emotion to those who desperately seek a reason to study even now.
I hope that this book will provide temporary solace to young people weary of studying, and help them rekindle their will and goals toward studying.

Into the book
Will studying hard and getting into college make me happy? It's hard to say for sure, because life doesn't end there.
I can only answer that it makes you feel more confident and easier to love yourself.
Of course, this doesn't mean that you have to go to a good university to do that.
Loving yourself is not something that is determined by the words “pass” or “fail,” nor is it something that comes with a first-class university entrance exam.
It is a feeling that comes from living fiercely enough to leave no regrets.
It is a gift of the painful moments of resisting the temptation to play without skipping a daily routine and sometimes overcoming the unwillingness to do something.
--- p.9, from “Prologue: Rising Up Again and Loving Myself”
“The fact that you are studying so playfully means that you still don’t know why you should study.
“Your grades won’t go up unless you have a desperate reason to study.”
When I heard that, I felt like I had been hit on the head with a hammer.
That's right.
I didn't have any 'desperate' reason why I had to study.
Even if there was a reason, the underlying mindset was 'if it works, it's good, if it doesn't, it can't be done.'
So, even though I had decided to study on my own, I was forcing myself to study.
There was no way my grades would improve with that kind of studying.
--- p.55, from “Chapter 1: The Boy Who Wanted to Be Free”
I already knew.
How to win a fight.
I remembered the old days when I fought and fought to the end, even though I was beaten up badly.
It felt like I got hit in the back of the head.
If you lose today, you can get up tomorrow, and if you lose tomorrow, you can get up the day after tomorrow, and so on… … .
That was something I was really good at.
When I thought positively, my energy surged.
What I had to fight for was my studies.
It felt easy because the subject of the confrontation had changed from peers to studying.
'okay.
Let's not doubt any longer.
I can do it.
Until then, if you get tired of studying, you have to fight until I beat you to it.'
--- p.78, from “Chapter 2: If You Want to Fly, Start by Flapping Your Wings”
At first, there seemed to be a mountain of things to study.
Because I didn't know most things.
But I kept at it.
The most important thing at this stage is not the study method, but patience.
Many students fail at the patience stage.
(Omitted) But bear with it.
It may be painful in the moment, but it will never last long.
As you continue to study, strangely enough, the amount of studying you have to do gradually decreases.
Don't look at the total amount of work I have to do.
Then you feel pressured and it becomes difficult to study.
Studying can be easy if you just focus on what you need to do today, at this moment.
--- p.106, from “Chapter 3: The Joy of Studying at This Moment”
We all need encouragement.
It's not a good idea to just endure it and say, "I'm okay, everyone does this much."
It's a huge strength to have someone watching over you and cheering you on.
Whether it's a teacher, a parent, a friend, or even myself.
Such expectations and encouragement bring about amazing changes.
“I always believe that I am doing well and that I can do well.”
--- p.147, from “Chapter 3: The Joy of Studying at This Moment”
People who are good at studying often say, “Studying was fun.”
That's right.
But the secret to making studying fun is surprisingly simple.
You just have to do something more fun than studying.
Then studying will become the most fun.
If you focus on something more fun than studying, studying becomes boring.
--- p.198, from “Chapter 4: If You Don’t Stop, It’s Not a Failure”
I asked myself.
Why did I study so hard? What did I hope to gain from my studies? A well-paying job? A socially recognized position? A stable life? Is studying the only path I need to take to achieve any of these things?
Looking at the look in Yunmin's eyes as he talked about 'how to make money' while spitting, I suddenly realized something.
Why I wanted to study.
I study to do what I want to do.
That was the conclusion I came to.
I study because the dream I have is something I have to study for.
--- p.224, from “Chapter 5: The True Reward of Studying with All Your Heart”
People who think, 'There are two types of universities in the world, one is Seoul National University and the other is not Seoul National University,' will not be able to love themselves no matter which university they enter.
Because we end up living our whole lives comparing ourselves to others.
It's an embarrassing confession, but there was a time when I, too, was lost in such thoughts, even if only for a moment.
But as we go through life, we realize that studying isn't everything.
In the end, studying is just one of many paths.
So, if you choose the path of studying, you must have a clear reason for studying.
Studying comes next.
I can only answer that it makes you feel more confident and easier to love yourself.

Publisher's Review
I desperately want to find a reason to study
A healing essay for them
From last place to first place in 6 months,
From a perennial underachiever to a lawyer, he graduated from Seoul National University.
An amazing study journey that keeps going without stopping!
There is a book that appeared in 2009 and sparked a spark in the hearts of young people across the country.
This is a heartwarming study diary written by the author, who, despite difficult circumstances and low grades, devoted himself to studying and was eventually accepted to Seoul National University, finding his true dream.
Through this book, the author, attorney Park Cheol-beom, candidly confesses his passionate passion for studying, his serious attitude, the specific process of acquiring study methods, and his serious concerns about his future, earning the enthusiastic support of one million young people.
This book has been loved for over 10 years, from reviews that say they started reading it with a light heart and then found themselves straightening their posture and underlining before they knew it, to stories that say it saved them from a slump in their studies and helped them get back on track, to stories from parents who bought it to read to their children but ended up reading it themselves and being moved by it.
In particular, this book is famous for being a book that middle and high school teachers purchase 20 copies of with their own money each semester and give them as gifts to students struggling with studying, as the sincere story contained in this book helps students focus on their studies again, rather than a hundred words from the teacher saying, "You have to study."
It is no exaggeration to say that studying is everything during school days.
However, if you study simply to get 'good grades' or to go to a 'good university', then this cannot be called true studying.
In the book, the author says that studying begins only when you find a desperate reason to study.
Once you find the reason, you just have to study hard enough to have no regrets.
Every moment spent skipping your daily routine, resisting the temptation to play, and sometimes overcoming the urge to study becomes the foundation of a strong mind and a source of confidence.
Anyone who has ever studied even once
Reading this book will warm your heart!
If the first edition dealt with the story of how he entered Seoul National University's College of Engineering through a never-ending challenge from a difficult childhood, and then found his own dream and entered Korea University's Law School, the revised edition, released 12 years later, newly added the process of how he entered law school, passed the bar exam, and ultimately achieved his dream.
The author's intensely studied teenage years unfold vividly before our eyes, offering heartfelt encouragement and a deeply moving experience to all those who desperately seek a reason to study even now.
This book consists of a total of five chapters.
Chapter 1 contains the story of his childhood, when his family was scattered due to financial difficulties and he was unable to develop interest in studying.
Chapter 2 contains the story of how, as a first-year high school student, he made a firm resolution to change his life and began to find his own study method.
Chapter 3 shows how he went from last place to first place in just 6 months by focusing solely on his studies without stopping for even a single second while breathing.
Although his grades improved quickly, his parents' divorce made his family's financial situation even more difficult, and we see the author repeatedly getting frustrated and getting back up.
Chapter 4 explains the process of not giving up and challenging myself to get into Seoul National University, but then thinking about what I really wanted to do and jumping back into the entrance exam process to pursue my dream of becoming a lawyer.
In the final five chapters, you will learn about the process of becoming a lawyer through studying solely to achieve one's dream, not for the entrance exam, and continuing to study without stopping thereafter.
As we go through life, we realize that studying isn't everything.
Studying is just one of many paths.
However, if you have chosen the path of studying, you must have a clear reason as to why you are studying.
Only those who have a reason to study can become number one.
The author shares his own path of study, from his childhood without dreams or hopes to his current status as a lawyer, and warmly advises young people to find their own desperate reasons for studying.
This book will help anyone, not just teenagers, find a burning passion for studying again for the sake of their lives.
Find your passion for studying
The most touching study myth is back!
A book that gave me a sharp rebuke when I was used to giving up and conforming.
There is nothing you can't achieve if you don't give up.

A book that gave me the courage to study again and to believe that if I study again, I won't fail this time.

Every time I felt tired of studying and wanted to give up, from the midterms and finals of my first year of high school to the particularly difficult last mock exam of the year, I read this book to pull myself together.

At first, I read it with a light heart, but later, I read it carefully, underlining it, and before I knew it, I found myself with a stinging nose.

This is a valuable book that made us realize that studying is not something that exists to harshly evaluate us through tests, but rather a stepping stone to achieving our goals and dreams when we become adults.

The author's sincerity was felt to the bone.
I plan to purchase about 20 copies in advance and give them as gifts to students.
As for the will and effort to study, the author is a much better teacher than I am.
