Storytelling Youth Dokdo Textbook
Description
Book Introduction
Telling all the stories of Dokdo in the easiest and most fun way
Dokdo Educational Book of the Republic of Korea
The second edition of 『Storytelling Youth Dokdo Textbook』, recommended by the Korea Publication Ethics Commission as a recommended book for youth, has been published nine years after its first publication in 2015.
Lee Du-hyeon, a current teacher who is deeply immersed in Dokdo and is dedicated to promoting the island, has been developing Dokdo teaching materials that can be used in schools together with other teachers who also love Dokdo.
The recently published 『Dokdo Coloring Journey』 is also a Dokdo learning resource completed in collaboration with teachers from the Dokdo Research Group of the Gyeonggi Book Workshop, who reviewed this second edition.
We always teach that Dokdo is our land, but if young people do not accurately understand Dokdo's history, geography, and environment, Dokdo education is meaningless.
Territorial education is a process of informing people about the reason for the existence of the territory, its changing process, and its value, and instilling in them a love and care for the territory.
The process is not as easy as you might think.
This is because we must also understand the concepts of areas such as exclusive economic zones and air defense identification zones.
The book begins by explaining the route to Dokdo.
The route drawn on the map even includes the travel time, and the feeling of looking at Dokdo from inside the ship is conveyed as is.
It feels more vivid and interesting because I actually visited Dokdo and Ulleungdo with the students and wrote down exactly what we saw, heard, and talked about.
Nevertheless, it contains information on Dokdo's location, current status, formation process, climate and topography, history based on historical and geographic books, and even old stories related to the rocks of Dokdo.
In addition, it provides an easy-to-understand explanation of international conflicts over territorial waters, international law, and Japan's motives and problems in claiming sovereignty over Dokdo.
Dokdo's natural environment, geography, flora and fauna, etc. are introduced in an interesting and new way through photos taken on-site and the latest research results. Maps and illustrations are provided to make the topics of resources, history, international law, and the controversy over the Korea-Japan Fisheries Agreement as accessible as possible.
In particular, we have made it possible to confirm that Dokdo is our land through the interpretation of the original texts of past history books, and we have not forgotten to introduce those who have worked to protect Dokdo from the past to the present.
The "Storytelling Dokdo Textbook for Youth," which systematically organizes all aspects of Dokdo, is a Dokdo education book that anyone can read easily and conveniently, and a Dokdo textbook that contains all information about Dokdo.
This new type of Dokdo specialized book, completed using storytelling techniques based on experiential activities with students, will integrate various fields related to Dokdo, stimulating curiosity and interest among young people and leading them to approach Dokdo with interest.
Furthermore, I believe that this will be an opportunity to understand the Dokdo issue and develop a love for Dokdo.
