The third and final series of “Christ-Centered Bible Reading,” a compilation of the Bible reading program of Bundang Woori Church.

Volume 3 introduces the Gospels, historical books, Pauline epistles, and general epistles.
The publication of these three volumes completes the series, allowing us to examine the entire Bible from a Christ-centered perspective.

Among the numerous Bible reading methods being introduced these days, why should we choose a Christ-centered approach? This approach is because it reflects the Bible's intended purpose.
The Bible testifies of Jesus Christ.
Moreover, no one can know God the Father and His will without Jesus, and no one can know what the Holy Spirit says about Christ.

Into the book
The author of the Gospel of Matthew is known as Matthew the Tax Collector, a disciple of Jesus.
The Gospel of Matthew is a book composed of various stories.
But to put it simply, there is an introduction and a conclusion, with five sermons in between.
The introduction and conclusion both convey the same message: 'God is with us.'
--- 「67.
From “God is with us”

The Gospel of Mark begins with the Gospel, teaches what the Gospel is, and concludes with Jesus' final command to spread the Gospel to the world.
So, the Gospel of Mark can be said to be a book that tells us about the ‘gospel.’
Moreover, the gospel is both a personal fact and a public fact that must be conveyed to the world.
--- 「71.
From “A Journey in Search of the Gospel”

The Gospel of Luke was written for the purpose of evangelizing to the Gentiles.
Additionally, the Gospel of Luke was written in a way that described the history of the time.
This is a deliberate choice to inform Gentiles that Jesus' death and resurrection are historical facts.
Moreover, the Gospel of Luke, along with the Acts of the Apostles, is a gospel that confirms the missionary expansion of the gospel, which gradually spread from the Jews to the Gentiles.
--- 「72.
From “The Ministry of Recovery and Abundance”

The Gospel of John is written from a different perspective than the other gospels.
Geographically, while the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke) primarily cover Jesus' ministry in the Galilee region, the Gospel of John focuses on Jesus' activities in Judea.
Moreover, while the Synoptic Gospels provide a relatively brief account of Jesus' actions and teachings, the Gospel of John provides a more in-depth account of each event.
Of course, some major events overlap, but there are many cases where stories that are major in the Synoptic Gospels are omitted from the Gospel of John.
--- 「74.
From “God’s only begotten Son, the giver of true life”

The entire book of Acts is structured around the content of 1:8… “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you” is the content of chapters 1-2.
And chapters 3-7 describe the gospel being preached in “Jerusalem.”
Chapters 8-12 describe the gospel being preached throughout “all Judea and Samaria.”
And the content of the gospel being preached “to the ends of the earth” is chapters 13-28.
--- 「76.
From “Church, the Community of the Kingdom of God”

Romans is a letter from the Apostle Paul to the church in Rome.
However, this is not a personal letter sent to convey personal greetings.
Romans is a public letter from Paul, the apostle representing the church, to the church in Rome and its members.
The first-century church was centered around a few families who owned large homes.
In some cases, church members rented a space together to meet.
However, the Christians in Rome were very poor, consisting mainly of immigrants and refugees from eastern Rome, Greece, and Asia Minor, slaves, freedmen, women, and children.
That is why, unlike today, there was no economic or social leeway to secure a place to gather in one place on a large scale.
For this reason, Paul's letters were circular documents that were read publicly in churches (house churches) that gathered in each home.
--- 「79.
From “Faith in Jesus Christ”

We do not know who wrote the book of Hebrews or who the recipients of the letter were.
However, if we look at the content, we can clearly see the circumstances in which this letter was written.
The author of Hebrews assumes that his readers are very familiar with the Old Testament.
He quotes and reports Old Testament figures, laws, sacrificial laws, covenants, and Israelite history without hesitation or explanation.
This shows that the recipients of this letter were Jews, and Jews who were well versed in the Old Testament.
It also appears that the recipients were suffering great persecution.
--- 「88.
From “The Obedient Christ”

This time, before moving on to the New Testament, we will look at the intervening period in the history of the Old and New Testaments.
There is a gap of about 400 years between the end of Malachi and the beginning of Matthew.
Of course, after reading Malachi, you can immediately open the Gospel of Matthew and study the passage, but learning even a brief history of this intervening period will help you better understand the background of the New Testament.
--- 「Special lecture.
From the “Intertestamental Period”

Publisher's Review
“Reading the Bible with Christ at the Center” is a teaching material that helps you understand the flow of the Bible and discover Jesus Christ contained in the text through the guidance of four pastors (Sangseop Koh, Dongyeol Lee, Jeonggyu Lee, and Chunseong Lee).
The theme and goal of this book are clearly revealed in its title.

Reading the entire Bible with Christ at the center!

Why Christ-Centered Bible Reading?

Because it is a way to read the Bible according to its intended purpose.
The Bible contains the story of redemption, and at its center is Jesus Christ.
The Old Testament prophesies Christ, and the New Testament reveals Jesus in action.
Moreover, no one can know God the Father and His will without Jesus Christ, and no one can know Christ without the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, if you do not discover Christ while reading the Bible, you cannot say that you have read the Bible.

How can we read the Bible in a Christ-centered way?

It's not difficult.
Because the Bible itself was written with Christ at the center.
The Old Testament points to the Messiah, and the New Testament is, of course, full of content introducing Christ.
Therefore, reading the Bible is like meeting Christ.
However, as you read the vast volume of the Bible, you may lose your direction or lack motivation, so you need appropriate help.
If you read the Bible text every day and refer to the commentary in this book, you can grasp the overall flow of each book of the Bible and discover Jesus Christ within it.
As you progress through this book, it can be very helpful to read and share it with family or church members.
The depth and breadth of your knowledge of Christ will double compared to when you read it alone.
You can't read the Bible alone and understand all its rich content.
That's why we need help.
In that respect, this book serves as a very appropriate commentary for grasping the context of the Bible with Christ as the goal and theme.

What benefits does this book provide?

First, the Bible can be easily understood with Christ at the center.
There are many books on the market that are similar or well organized.
However, most of them are translations of foreign authors or books that require a certain level of training for believers to understand the content.
Therefore, training of pastors, community leaders, and learners in charge of church education is essential.
However, this book was not only organized to suit the sentiments of the Korean church, but also so that believers can easily read and understand it on their own.

Second, it is intuitive and easy to use.
We've improved the readability of the text so that it can be read comfortably regardless of age, and included QR codes so that you can read the book or watch video lectures as needed.
Rather than a textbook format with questions and answers, it adopts a lecture format that you read and apply, making it easy to apply and utilize on your own, either individually or in small groups.

Third, this book is the foundation for various programs to understand the Bible.
Not only pastors, aspiring pastors, and church (group) leaders, but also believers want to know the Bible properly.
And there are many good books that can help you solve this.
However, it is difficult to find a book that is easily accessible and digestible to everyone.
This book will serve as a basic guide, bridging the gap between books and programs that offer in-depth study of the Bible.
In short, the barrier to entry is low!
