The author who most influenced S. Lewis

C., who is considered the greatest Christian apologist of the 20th century.
S. Lewis made no secret of the fact that all his writings were influenced by George MacDonald and that he considered him his mentor.
George MacDonald (1824-1905) is called the 'father of fantasy' today, along with Lewis Carroll, author of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', and G.

It also had a great influence on Tolkien.
He wrote over 50 books, including novels, fairy tales, poetry collections, sermons, and literary criticism.
These books, with their rich imagination, provided a refreshing shock amidst the Victorian era when realistic novels were in vogue, and they brought comfort and hope to a world dominated by strict culture and rife with social discrimination.

S. Lewis expresses his affection for McDonald in a long preface to his book, The Selected Works of George McDonald.
He said, “McDonald is extraordinarily prepared to teach a religion that places the most central of all relationships, that of fathers and sons,” and that “in editing this anthology, I have fulfilled a duty that I felt was a debt to me.”
The contents of 『The Selected Works of George MacDonald』 are mainly excerpts from 『The Undelivered Sermon』, a collection of MacDonald's sermons and the book that had the greatest influence on Lewis, and 『Chronicle of the Quiet Neighbor』, 『Seaside Parish』, 『Wilfred Cumbermead』, 『What's Mine Is Mine』, 『Phantastes』, 『Lilith』, 『The Princess and Cuddy』, etc. are also introduced.
