Into the book
If you want to be a true disciple of Jesus, you must live a disciplined life.
Training does not mean control.
Of course, if you are trained in psychology or economics, you can control the knowledge in those fields to some extent.
Even when training children, there is a bit of a desire to control.
But in spiritual life, training means “the effort to create space for God to act.”
--- p.24

There were many times when I tried to do ministry alone.
Then, when things didn't work out, I went to people and asked for help.
I found a community that would help me.
If that still doesn't work, I start praying.
But the order in which Jesus teaches is reversed.
First of all, being with God in solitude comes first.
Next is fellowship with people, that is, living with a community that will carry out the mission together.
Finally, the community goes out to heal and spread the good news. --- p.29

We too must be alone with God.
Why is solitude so important? Because in solitude we can hear the voice of our Father calling us, "My beloved."
Jesus says that you and I are loved just like He is.
We hear that same voice too.
Prayer is hearing that voice in the center of my being and allowing it to permeate my entire life.
"Who am I?" "I am a beloved being." Unless we hold on to that voice from the truest abyss of our being, we cannot confidently enter the world. --- p.41

Community is not about loneliness clinging to loneliness.
“I am very lonely and you are very lonely too.
“Stay with me for a moment!” If you cling to someone like this, it will quickly turn into an obsession, and if the obsession becomes severe, you may find yourself suffocating each other.
Community is solitude welcoming solitude.
“I am loved and you are loved.
“We can build a home together.” --- p.65

Rejoicing in each other's gifts means accepting the other's humanity.
In Daybreak, we just see each other as people.
Someone who can smile, someone who can say hello, someone who can eat food, someone who can take a few steps.
They may seem like broken people to others, but suddenly they are bursting with life.
Because through them I discover my own broken self. --- p.73

What matters in your life and mine is not success, but fruit.
The fruits of life often sprout from our pain, loss, and vulnerability.
Only when we plow our land can we bear the fruits of life.
God wants us to bear abundant fruit.
The question is not, “How much can I do with the rest of my life?”
The problem is this.
“How can I give myself completely to God so that my life can bear abundant fruit?”
--- p.100

Each volume is small enough to carry around and easy to read.

This series is a living, breathing testimony of the author's life.
Because the author himself has practiced and learned the discipleship of his life, the content is all the more powerful, and it evokes great sympathy for those living in this era as a “wounded healer.”
A book you'll read while underlining each line!

A life filled with my own things,
Now, create a ‘space for God to work.’

Solitude → Community → Ministry
3-Step Spiritual Training for Discipleship!

The series begins with “Spirituality of Life,” subtitled “A Day of Encountering God in the Heart of Everyday Life.”
"The Spirituality of Life" is a book for those who live busy lives without a break, and who feel less anxious when they are busy.
Henri Nouwen challenges Christians in our fast-paced world to continue their "spiritual training" in order to become disciples of Jesus and to continue to live "as disciples."
As the space in which God can work and speak expands through spiritual training, amazing things will happen in our lives and in the world.

The specific training methods are discipleship in ‘solitude,’ discipleship in ‘community,’ and discipleship in ‘ministry.’
The author himself confesses that he entered this cycle voluntarily and that through it his deepest longings were fulfilled.
He went into solitude and practiced prayer, meeting God one-on-one, forming relationships with others, and reaching out with compassion to the cries of the world heard from all sides.
The author diagnosed that the problem arose because many people mixed up the order of this training.
And he gave his life to the world because he believed that the path he walked throughout his life would bear abundant fruit for all of us.
If you want to feel love and belonging, if you want to truly connect with people, if you want to have a positive influence on others, and if you want to live well but are unsure of where to start, now is the time to learn the "spirituality of life" that Henri Nouwen discovered in the life of Jesus.
We invite you to a life of abundant fruitfulness!
