Into the book
As ministers who must preach the word of God and as followers of Jesus, there is only one message we must convey.
God does not love us because of what we do or achieve.
God loves us because He created and saved us in love, and because He chose us to spread that love, which is the true foundation of all human life.
… (omitted) … Christian leaders should not only have knowledgeable opinions on the issues that are heating up our times.
We must consider what words we use to advise and teach, rooted in our enduring and intimate relationship with the incarnate Jesus Christ.
And we must train ourselves to repeatedly hear the voice of love through continuous meditative prayer.
We must also train ourselves to find in love the wisdom and courage to deal with any issue that may arise.
--- Part 1.
Prayerful Leadership_From a Life of Reality to a Life of Prayer
Pastoral ministry is not only a communal experience, but also an experience of reciprocity.
Jesus, speaking of his shepherding ministry, said:
“I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep and my sheep know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep” (John 10:14-15).
He wants us to be shepherds too.
Jesus wants Peter to shepherd and care for His sheep.
However, you do not want to care for your patients as an 'expert' who knows their problems and deals with them.
He wants to minister as a vulnerable human being who knows the problems of others but also needs to know his own problems, who not only cares for others but also needs to be cared for, who forgives and is forgiven, who loves and is loved by others.
… (omitted) … We are not healers, nor reconcilers, nor givers of life.
We are sinners, broken and weak, in need of help, just like everyone else we care for.
The mystery of ministry lies in the fact that we have been chosen to make our limited and conditional love a conduit for God's unlimited and unconditional love.
--- Part 2.
Leadership that Serves the Soul_From Popular Management to True Shepherding
Here we encounter an important characteristic of future Christian leadership.
It is not a leadership of power and domination, but a leadership of force and humility.
In it, the suffering servant of God, Jesus Christ, appears.
To be clear, the leadership I'm talking about isn't the kind of psychologically weak leadership where one is merely a passive victim of one's circumstances.
It speaks of leadership that continually relinquishes the use of power for love, and only for love.
That is true Christian leadership.
Being powerless and humble in the spiritual life does not mean being spineless and letting others make all the decisions for you.
Rather, it means that you love Jesus so deeply that you are ready to follow Him wherever He leads you.
It refers to people who always believe that they will find life and find it abundantly by being with Jesus.
